Red Sox's Willson Contreras: Takes on-field batting practice
Contreras (hamstring) took batting practice on the field at Fenway Park on Tuesday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Contreras is also expected to do some running on the field during Boston's series against the Angels that runs through Wednesday. It hasn't been determined yet whether Contreras needs a short rehab assignment before returning to the active roster. If he skips one, he could be activated as soon as Friday. Contreras has been out since late August with a left hamstring strain.

Red Sox's Willson Contreras: Could be back as soon as Friday
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said Monday that Contreras (hamstring) will resume running during the team's current series against the Angels and could be activated from the 10-day injured list as soon as Friday's series opener versus the Royals, Marcus Grunfeld of ElEmergente.com reports.
Tracy also added that Contreras could go out on a short rehab assignment before returning to the active roster, but he plans to speak with the first baseman about that possibility later this week. Contreras landed on the IL one week ago because of a left hamstring strain. Mickey Gasper has been filling in at first base for the Red Sox.

Red Sox's Willson Contreras: Bound for IL with hamstring strain
The Red Sox placed Contreras on the 10-day injured list Monday due to a left hamstring strain.
Contreras will hit the shelf after experiencing tightness in the hamstring during Sunday's 16-1 loss to the Yankees and exiting the game in the seventh inning. According to Tim Healey of The Boston Globe, Contreras had been playing through the injury for about a month, and it may started to take more of a toll on him over the past week; he slashed just .111/.200/.185 with a 2:8 BB:K over his last seven games. Boston recalled Mickey Gasper from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move, and the team could end up leaning on a combination of him and Nick Sogard at first base while Contreras is out of the lineup.

Red Sox's Willson Contreras: Dealing with hamstring tightness
Contreras (hamstring) was removed from Sunday's 16-1 loss to the Yankees in the seventh inning, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Contreras was replaced in the field by Andruw Monasterio to open the bottom of the seventh inning. Manager Chad Tracy explained after the game that "hamstring was a little tight" for Contreras, and with the team down 6-0 at that point in the game, he didn't want to "push it" with the first baseman's health. Contreras finished his day 0-for-3 with a strikeout, and he can be considered day-to-day ahead of Monday's series opener with Seattle.

Contreras went 2-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored during the Red Sox's 11-1 win over the Diamondbacks on Monday.
All nine Red Sox starters drove in at least one run during Monday's rout, with Contreras contributing with a solo homer over the Green Monster in the fifth inning.
