The veteran second baseman will get a breather for the first contest of the day, but expect him to return to the starting nine for the nightcap. Brett Baty will receive the nod at second base and will bat eighth in Game 1 of the twin bill.

Mets' Marcus Semien: Goes deep for second straight game
Semien went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk and scored two additional runs in Monday's 14-3 win against Atlanta.
Semien's blast was a 424-foot, two-run shot in the sixth inning that broke a 3-3 tie. It was his second homer in as many games and his third over his past five contests. Semien also logged his first multi-hit performance over his past 13 games, snapping what had been an ugly 4-for-43 stretch at the plate. He's batting just .214 on the campaign, but with 12 homers through 88 contests, Semien is only three shy of the 15 long balls he swatted across 127 regular-season contests last year.

Mets' Marcus Semien: Provides pinch-hit homer Sunday
Semien went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit three-run home run in Sunday's 8-3 win over the Dodgers.
Semien entered as a pinch hitter for Luis Robert in the seventh inning and promptly launched a three-run homer to extend New York's lead. He has now homered twice over his last four games, though those long balls account for two of just three hits over seven contests since returning from the injured list. Semien is batting just .207 with a .607 OPS across 87 games this season.

The Mets reinstated Semien (hip) from the injured list Thursday.
Semien has been shelved by a Grade 3 hip flexor strain since June 25, but after going 2-for-3 with a three-run homer during a rehab game Sunday, he's been cleared to return to the active roster before Thursday's second-half opener against Philadelphia -- well ahead of his initial 4-to-6-week timeline. The 35-year-old figures to reclaim his role as New York's primary second baseman now that he's healthy, though the Mets will keep him on the bench Thursday while Brett Baty starts at the keystone. Zack Short was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Mets' Marcus Semien: Kicks off rehab assignment
Semien (hip) began a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Sunday, logging five innings at second base while going 2-for-3 with a three-run home run.
After landing on the shelf June 25 due to a Grade 3 left hip flexor strain, Semien initially appeared unlikely to make it back from the injured list before the beginning of August, but he's made more rapid progress in his recovery than anticipated. Semien will put his rehab assignment on hold during the All-Star break, but he's expected to report back to Binghamton or Triple-A Syracuse over the weekend to continue stockpiling at-bats in games. If all goes well in his initial rehab games following the break, Semien could get the green light to rejoin the Mets at some point during the final two weeks of July.

Mets' Marcus Semien: Unlikely to return in July
Semien (hip) is unlikely to return before the end of July, Tim Britton and Will Sammon of The Athletic report.
Semien landed on the 10-day injured list in late June with a left hip flexor strain that's bothered him at least since early May. He believes the nagging injury affected his performance and was a result of compensating for an old foot injury, noting that "it got to the point where sprinting 100 percent was not possible." However, after working to "strengthen some things," Semien is "feeling really good." Semien will likely require a rehab assignment before returning to the Mets' active roster.

Mets' Marcus Semien: Nursing Grade 3 hip flexor strain
Semien was diagnosed Monday with a Grade 3 left hip flexor strain and is expected to be out for 4-to-6 weeks, at a minimum, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Semien initially tried to play through the injury, but it was too debilitating and he eventually landed on the 10-day injured list Thursday. While the 35-year-old infielder is shelved, the Mets will continue to use Brett Baty as their primary second baseman, with Ronny Mauricio also in the mix for some starts.

Semien went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI in Thursday's win over the Phillies.
The veteran second baseman's two-run triple in the seventh inning wound up being the game-winning hit in a 6-4 victory. Semien has four multi-hit performances in the last 12 games, a stretch in which he's slashing .273/.360/.523 with three homers, one steal, six runs and six RBI.

The veteran second baseman took Bryce Elder deep in the fifth inning, going back-to-back with rookie A.J. Ewing to extend the Mets' lead in an eventual 8-1 romp. Semien has had a tough start to his New York tenure, but he's at least found his power stroke the last few weeks. Over his last 18 games, Semien's launched six of his nine homers on the year, but during that stretch he's batting just .231 (15-for-65) with a 25.4 percent strikeout rate.

Semien rocketed the seventh pitch of his at-bat against Emerson Hancock over the left-field fence in the sixth inning to give the Mets a brief 2-1 lead. It marked Semien's second homer in as many days and third long ball across his past seven games, during which he has gone 8-for-23 (.348). It's been a challenging first season in New York for the second baseman, who's hitting .228 with a .630 OPS, six homers, 23 RBI, 23 runs and five stolen bases across 60 games.

Semien reached base in each of his plate appearances for the first time this season, highlighted by a two-run blast in the second inning.
