  • Jahmyr Gibbs RB | DET

Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs: Working at multiple positions

Gibbs (undisclosed) is practicing at training camp and took part in wide receiver position drills Thursday, Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News reports.

Gibbs missed some time during spring practices due to a soft tissue injury, but he isn't showing any signs of being hampered at training camp. Route running appears to be a priority area of improvement for Gibbs this offseason, as after taking part in receiver drills he stayed on the field for extra work alongside All-Pro teammate Amon-Ra St. Brown. Gibbs said he and St. Brown worked on releases Thursday, and that they plan to spend time Friday going over different route techniques. General manager Brad Holmes talked up Gibbs as a multi-position playmaker after drafting him 12th overall in 2023, so it's encouraging to see the Lions now invest time into improving his ability to work as a pass-catcher in the intermediate area of the field. That type of utilization could allow Gibbs to materialize as a true Year 2 breakout, even with positional mate David Montgomery still projected to handle notable volume out of the backfield.

  • Patriots' Antonio Gibson: Back at practice

Gibson (undisclosed) returned to practice Thursday, Paul Perillo of the Patriots' official site reports.

Coach Jerod Mayo indicated Wednesday that Gibson wasn't expected to be out long term, and indeed the running back's stint on the active/non-football injury list was abbreviated. Now that he's back at practice, Gibson is poised to work in a key complementary role in the Patriots backfield alongside incumbent starter Rhamondre Stevenson. In that capacity, Gibson should have an opportunity to maintain a degree of fantasy value, considering that the team could lean on the ground game early on this season with a new QB -- either Jacoby Brissett or Drake Maye -- in line to get the Week 1 starting nod.

  • Dillon Johnson RB | CAR

    Dillon Johnson: Dropped by Tennessee

The Titans waived Johnson on Thursday, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.

Johnson was picked up by Tennessee after going undrafted earlier in the offseason, but it now seems as if the team has decided to part ways with the 23-year-old. The Washington product was a second-team all Pac-12 selection last season after tallying 1,385 yards from scrimmage and 16 touchdowns in 2023.

  • Tyler Goodson RB | ATL

    Colts' Tyler Goodson: Practices Thursday

Goodson (toe) participated in practice Thursday, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.

A previous report noted that Goodson was dealing with a toe issue, but the running back was out there Thursday for the Colts' first training camp practice. With Jonathan Taylor entrenched as the team's top option, Goodson is in line to compete with Trey Sermon and Evan Hull for depth slotting in Indy's backfield ahead of Week 1.

  • Eagles' Kenneth Gainwell: Taking some first-team reps

Gainwell is getting some first-team reps early in training camp, Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green reports.

It's not exactly surprising that a fourth-year pro with 1,071 career snaps on offense is starting camp ahead of rookie fourth-round pick Will Shipley on the depth chart. The question is whether Gainwell can hold the youngster off all summer for a backup role that doesn't figure to entail much playing time so long as Saquon Barkley is healthy.

  • Chase Edmonds RB | WAS

Buccaneers' Chase Edmonds: Dealing with undisclosed injury

Edmonds isn't practicing due to an undisclosed injury, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Coach Todd Bowles declined to elaborate on the nature of the injury that has Edmonds sidelined for the start of training camp. The 28-year-old is expected to compete with rookie fourth-round pick Bucky Irving and others for backup roles behind starting running back Rachaad White.

  • Steelers' Cordarrelle Patterson: Dealing with hamstring issue

The Steelers placed Patterson on the reserve/non-football injury list Wednesday with a hamstring injury, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.

Patterson was evidently injured while away from the team, hence his placement on the NFI list. He can be activated at any time during training camp or the preseason. Patterson signed a two-year deal with the Steelers in the offseason, giving Pittsburgh an experienced return man as well as depth out of the backfield behind Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren.

  • Broncos' Audric Estime: Practicing in full

Estime (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's training camp session, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.

Estime looks back to full health after missing most of the spring program due to a knee scope. The rookie fifth-round pick has a real opportunity to compete for a meaningful role in the Broncos backfield, which also includes Javonte Williams, Jaleel McLaughlin and Samaje Perine. He boasts the size and physical profile to potentially carve out a goal-line role, but it may take until well into the preseason for the delineation of Denver's backfield roles to truly become clear.

  • Vikings' DeWayne McBride: Comes off NFI list

McBride (undisclosed) was activated off the Vikings' active/non-football injury list Wednesday, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

McBride's injury must have not been serious, as the 23-year-old running back spent just two days on Minnesota's active/non-football injury list before activation. Now that the UAB product has returned to form, he's expected to compete with Myles Gaskin and Kene Nwangwu for a depth role in the Vikings' backfield.

  • Tyler Goodson RB | ATL

Colts' Tyler Goodson: Could hit PUP list

Goodson (toe) could be placed on Indianapolis' active/PUP list soon, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.

Goodson was getting some first-team reps with Jonathan Taylor missing practice earlier this offseason, but it now appears that he's dealing with a toe issue that could sideline him for the beginning of training camp. The Iowa product will likely be battling with Trey Sermon and Evan Hull for a depth role in Indianapolis' backfield once he returns to full health.
