Dalvin Cook RB | DAL
Dalvin Cook: Visiting Dallas
Cook is being flown in for a visit with the Cowboys on Monday night, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
The teams haven't yet had contract talks, but this is seemingly cause for optimism in the Cook camp. He averaged just 3.2 yards per carry across 15 games in 2023 between the Jets and Ravens, rendering it the worst season of his career. If he can regain something closer to his prior form with the Vikings, though, the four-time Pro Bowler could be an immediate upgrade for a Dallas backfield currently headed by the unimpressive duo of Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle.

Louis Rees-Zammit WR | JAC
Chiefs' Louis Rees-Zammit: Sustains back injury
Rees-Zammit left Monday's practice with a back issue, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
The former rugby star is likely fighting for a depth role on the Chiefs' 53-man roster, so this injury could hurt his chances of making it past cutdown day. Expect Mecole Hardman and Nikko Remigio to see even more reps returning kicks with Rees-Zammit sidelined.

Pierre Strong Jr. RB | GB
Browns' Pierre Strong: In line to resume practicing
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Strong (ribs) will return to practice this week, Patrick Warren of the Browns' official site reports.
Strong departed Wednesday's practice in an ambulance and was transported to a local hospital, where he was diagnosed with a rib contusion. He has two weeks remaining to resume practicing in full before Cleveland's regular-season opener against the Cowboys on Sept. 8.

Nathaniel Peat RB | DAL
Nathaniel Peat: Misses final roster
The Cowboys waived Peat on Monday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Peat joined the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in late April before being waived Monday. The 24-year-old running back tallied 398 yards from scrimmage and four total touchdowns on 82 touches during his final season at Missouri in 2023.

Samaje Perine RB | CIN
Broncos' Samaje Perine: In line to be cut
The Broncos are slated to release or trade Perine prior to Tuesday's roster cuts deadline, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Perine is the odd man out in Denver's backfield, with all of Javonte Williams, Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime having made strong cases for roles this preseason. The eight-year veteran could garner some interest on the trade market for teams in need of proven depth, especially given his skills in pass protection and as a receiver. As a result of Perine's non-guaranteed $3 million salary this season, however, teams could opt to simply wait for his release by the Broncos and then negotiate for a lower contract total.

Deshaun Fenwick RB | GB
Deshaun Fenwick: Won't make 53-man roster
The Patriots waived Fenwick on Monday.
Fenwick was let go and brought back by the Patriots earlier in August after agreeing to join the team as an undrafted free agent in April. The Oregon State product appeared in 13 games during his final collegiate season, tallying 591 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns on 105 total touches.

Xazavian Valladay RB | MIN
Xazavian Valladay: Won't make 53-man roster
The Jets waived Valladay on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Valladay spent his entire 2023 campaign with the Jets, appearing in one game and failing to record a stat on just 12 total snaps. The Arizona State product racked up over 2,200 rushing yards during his final two collegiate seasons, so he has a chance at finding a spot on to another team's practice squad heading into 2024.

Ke'Shawn Vaughn RB | SF
Ke'Shawn Vaughn: Misses San Fran's roster
The 49ers released Vaughn on Monday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
The 27-year-old running back was picked up by San Francisco earlier in August in order to add depth to the team's depleted running back room. Now that Elijah Mitchell and Isaac Guerendo have returned to full health, Vaughn has been dropped.

D'Onta Foreman RB | CLE
Browns' D'Onta Foreman: Staying sidelined
Foreman (ribs) will not practice Tuesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Foreman suffered the injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Seahawks. The severity of the injury and how long the Texas product may be out is still unknown, but he is one of multiple Browns running backs dealing with injuries, which will likely have an impact on Cleveland's final 53-man roster.

Rasheen Ali RB | BAL
Ravens' Rasheen Ali: Iffy for Week 1
Coach John Harbaugh noted Monday that Ali is in concussion protocol, Jonas Shaffer of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Per Harbaugh, the status of Ali -- who suffered a reported stinger in the Ravens' preseason opener -- is iffy for the team's regular-season opener, Thursday, Sept. 5 against the Chiefs. With fellow RB Owen Wright having suffered a broken foot Saturday, the Ravens' backfield depth behind Derrick Henry and Justice Hill is currently taxed. As a result, it wouldn't be surprising to see Baltimore address the situation before, during or after initial roster cut downs.
