  • Shane Vereen RB | NO

    Saints' Shane Vereen: Hitting IR

The Saints will place Vereen on injured reserve, Nick Underhill of The New Orleans Advocate reports.

Vereen's roster status was already precarious, and he now appears to be dealing with some kind of injury. He'll likely agree to an injury settlement, which would free him to sign with another team.

  • Jay Prosch RB | HOU

Jay Prosch: Released by the Texans

Prosch was released by the Texans on Friday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The Texans handed Prosch a three-year contract at the beginning of 2017, but they decided to save the $1 million guaranteed base salary for this coming season. He was used sparingly on offense, mostly as a blocking back, and was primarily a special teams contributor.

  • Joe Williams RB | SF

    49ers' Joe Williams: Cut loose

Williams (ribs) is getting cut by the 49ers, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports.

Though he's reportedly making progress with his rib injury, Williams missed out on his chance to push for a spot on the 53-man roster. Coach Kyle Shanahan famously lobbied for the Niners to select Williams in the fourth round of last year's draft, but undrafted free agent Matt Breida (shoulder) turned out to be the team's rookie gem in the backfield. It won't be too surprising if Williams draws some interest around the league.

  • Falcons' Justin Crawford: Puts forth best showing of the preseason

Crawford racked up 26 rushing yards on seven carries while adding one reception for six yards in a 34-7 preseason defeat to Miami on Thursday.

Though he only picked up 3.7 yards per carry in the preseason finale, Crawford appeared significantly more confident in comparison to his first three exhibition outings when he amassed just 18 rushing yards on 11 attempts. Crawford's production in the ground game was largely unimpressive, but he flashed potential to be a serviceable NFL scatback in the future -- collecting a team-high seven receptions on 11 targets during the exhibition slate.

  • Terry Swanson RB | HOU

Terry Swanson: Let go by Houston

Swanson was cut by the Texans on Friday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Swanson, an undrafted free agent, was signed to Houston as a depth piece following the 2018 NFL Draft. The the 5-foot-9, 209-pound Swanson made a splash in the final preseason game, leading Houston with 69 yards on 16 carries, including a 37-yard touchdown run. He was always a long shot to make the final roster, but he's a strong candidate to latch on with Houston's practice squad.

  • Devine Redding: Let go by Tampa Bay

Redding was cut by the Buccaneers on Friday, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.

Redding lasted less than a week in Tampa Bay. With Peyton Barber, Ronald Jones II and Jacquizz Rodgers already having secured roster spots, Redding never had more than a minuscule chance of making the final 53-man roster. The 22-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent if he clears waivers.

  • Detrez Newsome RB | LAC

Chargers' Detrez Newsome: Tallies 35 yards on the ground

Newsome carried the ball seven times for 35 yards and also returned a kickoff for 63 yards in Thursday's 23-21 preseason win over the 49ers.

Newsome was the first running back to hit the field Thursday, seemingly solidifying his position on the 53-man roster. Where he'll slot on the depth chart remains to be seen, but if his kickoff return was any indication, the undrafted rookie could be a factor even with limited snaps.

  • Giants' Robert Martin: Battling ankle injury

Martin exited Thursday's preseason game with an ankle injury, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.

Martin had three carries for 11 yards and played only eight snaps before being ruled out with the injury. The undrafted rookie out of Rutgers was facing long odds to make the 53-man roster prior to the injury.

  • Malik Williams RB | ATL

Falcons' Malik Williams: Dealing with shoulder injury

Williams suffered a shoulder injury in Thursday's preseason finale against the Dolphins, Kelsey Conway of the Falcons' official site reports.

Williams put forth a solid performance -- 55 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown -- prior to exiting with the injury in the third quarter. The severity of the issue remains unclear while the 22-year-old hopes to have shown enough to secure a spot on the 53-man roster.

  • Akrum Wadley RB | TEN

Titans' Akrum Wadley: Sees four carries in preseason finale

Wadley rushed four times for 16 yards during Thursday's preseason finale against the Vikings.

Wadley entered the game behind Dalyn Dawkins but didn't do much besides proving his health after dealing with an ankle injury earlier in the week. Firmly on the roster bubble, Wadley seems to have long odds of surviving final roster cuts this weekend.
