  • Gus Edwards RB | LAC

    Gus Edwards: Waived by Baltimore

Edwards (foot/ankle) was waived by the Ravens on Saturday, Ryan Mink of the team's official website reports.

Edwards was competing with fellow undrafted rookies Mark Thompson and De'Lance Turner for the No. 4 RB spot, but the Ravens ended up keeping just three players at the position. Edwards was injured for the final week of the preseason, missing out on his last opportunity to make a bid for the team.

  • Jalen Simmons RB | LAC

Jalen Simmons: Let go by Giants

Simmons was waived by the Giants on Saturday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.

Simmons had one last opportunity to prove his worth in Thursday's preseason finale against the Patriots, and while he did rush 11 times for 41 yards, it looks like it was too little too late for the tailback. He may be a candidate to return as a member of the Giants' practice squad.

  • Patriots' Brandon Bolden: Released by Pats

Bolden was released by the Patriots on Saturday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

The Patriots released Bolden at the same time last year, then brought him back a couple days later. It's something teams do to help with roster flexibility during the mad dash to acquire players that have been waived or released by other teams. Of course, the Patriots might move on from Bolden if they find another player capable of handling a similar role on special teams.

  • Dare Ogunbowale: Waived by Tampa Bay

Ogunbowale was waived by the Buccaneers on Saturday, Greg Auman of The Athletic Tampa Bay reports.

Ogunbowale joined the Bucs late in the preseason, so his chances of making the final roster were always slim. It's possible Tampa Bay elects to keep him close, however, by signing him to its practice squad.

  • Malik Williams RB | ATL

    Malik Williams: Waived-injured by Falcons

Williams (shoulder) was waived-injured by the Falcons on Saturday, Will McFadden of AtlantaFalcons.com reports.

Williams had been competing for a role in Atlanta's backfield behind Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman throughout the preseason, but was ultimately waived with an injury designation as the team trimmed its roster. He'll revert to IR if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Jhurell Pressley: Let go by Giants

Pressley was waived by the Giants on Saturday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic New York reports.

Pressley joined the Giants late in the preseason with the team in need of another body in the backfield for their final preseason games. While Pressley won't be on the final roster this year, he is now a candidate to make New York's practice squad if no one else claims him.

  • Jonathan Williams: Cut by Saints

The Saints waived Williams on Saturday, Nick Underhill of The New Orleans Advocate reports.

When Mark Ingram's four-game suspension was announced in early May, Williams was perhaps the leading candidate to serve as the handcuff to Alvin Kamara to start the season. As the preseason wore on, though, Williams was surpassed by rookie Boston Scott, who ultimately won the competition. There's a chance the Saints keep Williams around on the practice squad, but he'll first have to pass through waivers unclaimed.

  • Matt Breida RB | SF

49ers' Matt Breida: Gains medical clearance

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Breida (shoulder) has been medically cleared, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

The 49ers held a team workout Saturday, after which Shanahan relayed the news. With his separated shoulder healed, Breida may enter the season as the No. 1 running back due to a development from the same session. Jerick McKinnon suffered a non-contact knee injury, and while an MRI will determine its nature, there's worry that he suffered a torn ACL. If such a diagnosis is confirmed, Breida and Alfred Morris would be the prime candidates to lead the backfield this season. As an undrafted rookie in 2017, Breida reeled off 105 carries for 465 yards (4.4 per), 21 receptions (on 36 targets) for 180 yards and three total touchdowns.

  • 49ers' Jerick McKinnon: Suffers non-contact knee injury

McKinnon (calf) suffered a non-contact knee injury during Saturday's practice, eliciting concern from coach Kyle Shanahan, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. "Something with a knee, we'll find out later," Shanahan said. "We're nervous about it, that's for sure."

Shanahan's comment doesn't inspire any confidence, nor does the fact that McKinnon is already scheduled for an MRI. The obvious concern is an ACL injury, but we can't make any assumptions until McKinnon has actually been evaluated. He was working his way back from a minor calf injury, with the expectation of being ready for Week 1 in Minnesota. The Niners likely will turn to Matt Breida (shoulder) and Alfred Morris to lead their backfield if McKInnon isn't available.

  • 49ers' Jerick McKinnon: Suffers unknown injury Saturday

McKinnon (calf) was injured during a team workout Saturday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic Bay Area reports.

Per Barrows' source, McKinnon's injury "did not look good." Signed in the offseason to serve as the 49ers' No. 1 back, McKinnon missed most of the preseason due to a calf injury, but had been increasing his conditioning work in recent days. The nature of the current concern will be known in due time, but Alfred Morris and Matt Breida (shoulder) could be the team's go-to running backs to begin the season.
