  • Ronald Jones RB | DAL

Buccaneers' Ronald Jones II: Missing more practice time

Jones (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.

Jones was unable to practice in any capacity last week and isn't on the right track to avoid a multi-game absence. Peyton Barber (ankle) was unable to take advantage of the rookie's inactive status in Sunday's 42-28 loss to the Panthers, as the Bucs were forced to play from behind all afternoon and abandon the run game early. A Week 10 home game against the injury-riddled Redskins sets up much better for Barber to stay involved, assuming his own injury isn't a major concern.

  • Ameer Abdullah RB | JAC

    Ameer Abdullah: Lands in Minnesota

Abdullah was claimed off waivers by the Vikings on Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Abdullah will stay in the NFC North, joining a backfield that already includes Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray. The 2015 second-round pick isn't likely to be an immediate factor in the offense, but he could get a look on kickoff returns. There's no guarantee Abdullah sticks around for long, as the Vikings may view him as nothing more than short-term depth while Roc Thomas recovers from a hamstring injury.

  • Royce Freeman RB | CHI

Broncos' Royce Freeman: Could be ready after bye

Coach Vance Joseph is optimistic Freeman (ankle) will return after the Broncos' Week 10 bye, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.

Freeman missed two straight games leading up to the bye week, but managed a limited practice Friday. His return for Week 11 against the Chargers likely would push Phillip Lindsay into a timeshare and Devontae Booker back to a minimal role out of the Denver backfield.

  • C.J. Anderson RB | LAR

Panthers' C.J. Anderson: Handed one carry

Anderson rushed one time for one yard in Week 9's win over the Buccaneers.

Anderson played just three snaps on offense, returning to a peripheral role after getting five carries the previous game. Halfway through the season, Anderson is averaging under three touches per game, evidencing his lack of involvement behind all-purpose starter Christian McCaffrey.

  • Zach Zenner RB | NO

    Lions' Zach Zenner: Rejoins Lions

Zenner agreed to a deal with the Lions on Tuesday.

Zenner was waived from injured reserve by the Lions in September, but now seemingly fully healthy, rejoins his former squad. In three years with the Lions, Zenner rushed 119 times for 420 yards and five touchdowns. The 27-year-old won't likely see the field much, as he's expected to be buried on the depth chart behind Kerryon Johnson, LeGarrette Blount and Theo Riddick.

  • Ameer Abdullah RB | JAC

Ameer Abdullah: Cut loose by Detroit

The Lions are expected to waive Abdullah on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Detroit will bid adieu to its 2015 second-round pick as it makes room on the 53-man roster for receiver Bruce Ellington. Abdullah made 22 starts during his three-plus-year run in Detroit, but the 25-year-old averaged just 3.8 yards per carry while also dealing with some ball-security issues. The offseason additions of Kerryon Johnson and LeGarrette Blount had pushed Abdullah down to fourth on the depth chart at running back in 2018, with Abdullah suiting up in just three of the Lions' eight games. Abdullah's pedigree and ability to contribute in the return game should be enough to earn him a look elsewhere around the league as a depth back.

  • Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott: Accounts for 112 yards against Titans

Elliot rushed 17 times for 61 yards and caught four of five targets for 51 yards in Monday night's 28-14 defeat to the Titans.

Elliot once again couldn't get much going on the ground behind an offensive line that also allowed its quarterback to be sacked five times. In fact, Elliot has now averaged under 4.0 yards per carry in three of the Cowboys' last four games. Fortunately, he was able to post his second-best receiving mark of the season, thanks in part to a 37-yard gain in the first quarter. While his 112 total yards still made it a decent showing by his standards, Elliott's lack of blocking has been concerning of late, especially as a matchup against Philadelphia's second-ranked rush defense awaits Week 10.

  • Derrick Henry RB | BAL

Titans' Derrick Henry: Scores in second straight game

Henry rushed six times for 27 yards and a touchdown and caught both his targets for five yards in Monday night's 28-14 win over the Cowboys.

Henry opened Tennessee's scoring by leaping in from one yard out in the second quarter. That gave Henry a touchdown in back-to-back games after starting the season with none through his first six outings. Unlike that stretch, Henry was actually efficient when handed the ball Monday, averaging 4.5 yards per carry with a long of 13, but his struggles to date allowed teammate Dion Lewis to assume the bulk of the Titans' backfield duties, finishing with 122 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on 23 touches (19 carries).

  • Mike Boone RB | MIA

Vikings' Mike Boone: Limited to special teams

Boone played just three snaps in Sunday's win over Detroit, all on special teams.

With Dalvin Cook back from a hamstring injury, both Boone and Roc Thomas will be almost exclusively limited to special teams.

  • Chris Johnson RB | ARI

Chris Johnson: Officially retires from NFL

Johnson announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday, Steve Layman of NewsChannel 5 Nashville reports.

There seemed to be a chance Johnson could resurface at some point this season, but the 33-year-old -- after averaging 2.5 yards per carry in four games with the Cardinals in 2017 -- is now officially hanging up the cleats for good. Well-known for rewriting the record books at the 2008 NFL Combine, Johnson will go down as one of the most explosive tailbacks to grace the field, and one who still owns the all-time single-season record with 2,509 yards from scrimmage.
