James Cook RB | BUF
Bills' James Cook: Likely to sit third on depth chart
Cook is expected to head into the Bills' Week 9 game against the Jets as the team's third running back after Buffalo acquired Nyheim Hines from Indianapolis on Tuesday, Michael Giardi of NFL Network reports.
Fresh off carrying five times for 35 yards while adding a 41-yard reception in Sunday's win over the Packers, Cook might have seemed poised to handle a larger role in the second half of the season behind top back Devin Singletary. Instead, the Bills' decision to trade for Hines looks like it'll render Cook as little more than an insurance option, given that Hines has been one of the NFL's top pass-catching backs since entering the NFL in 2018. Singletary is averaging a healthy 4.5 yards per carry on the season and hasn't done anything to change his standing as the Bills' preferred option on early downs, so it'll likely take an absence from him before Cook picks up more extensive work outside of a garbage-time scenario. It's possible Cook even finds himself on the inactive list this weekend, given that the fourth running back on the roster, Taiwan Jones, is a core special-teams contributor who dresses for every game.

Nyheim Miller-Hines RB | NO
Bills' Nyheim Hines: Moving on to Buffalo
The Colts agreed to trade Hines to the Bills on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Buffalo has been reliant on Devin Singletary out of the backfield this season, as he has 94 touches versus 53 combined for rookie James Cook and Zack Moss, the latter of whom is going back to Indy in this deal, per Jay Glazer of Fox Sports. With Hines on board, though, the offense now has a steady receiving threat at running back. For his career, Hines has reeled in 78 percent of his 300 targets at a clip of 7.3 yards per catch while also averaging 4.0 yards per carry and scoring 17 TDs in 72 games across five seasons.

Jeff Wilson RB | MIA
Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Hitting South Beach
The 49ers agreed to trade Wilson to the Dolphins on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Not long after dealing Chase Edmonds to the Broncos in the Bradley Chubb trade, the Dolphins restocked their backfield with the addition of Wilson, who has experience working with new head coach Mike McDaniel from his time in San Francisco. Wilson also will be joining forces with former teammate Raheem Mostert. On the season, Wilson has averaged 5.1 YPC on his 92 rushes, gathered in 10 of 13 targets and scored two rushing TDs in eight contests, but there was little room for him in the Niners' plans after his former club added Christian McCaffrey.

Latavius Murray RB | BUF
Broncos' Latavius Murray: Role may shrink with Edmonds pickup
Murray and Melvin Gordon could see their touches take a hit after the Broncos acquired Chase Edmonds from the Dolphins on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Denver and Miami executed a blockbuster deal ahead of the trade deadline, with Edmonds being part of the package going to the Broncos in exchange for outside linebacker Bradley Chubb and a 2025 fifth-round selection. Edmonds had been in the midst of a disappointing first season in Miami and was struggling to find playing time behind Raheem Mostert, but the duo of Murray and Gordon likely represent less imposing competition for snaps and touches. The two had essentially split the work the past two weeks, with Murray carrying 22 times for 70 yards (3.2 YPC) and two touchdowns to go with three receptions for 12 yards. Gordon, meanwhile, held the edge in playing time with 53.6 percent of the snaps, but he struggled to a 3.1 yards per carry on 20 totes. Given that the Broncos aren't tied to either Murray or Gordon beyond 2022, the coaching staff could opt to give Edmonds a look in a three-down role if he quickly establishes himself as a superior option. At least initially, Edmonds may be part of a three-headed timeshare in the backfield that would limit the fantasy upside of all three RBs.

Chase Edmonds RB | WAS
Broncos' Chase Edmonds: On to Mile High
The Dolphins agreed Tuesday to trade Edmonds, a 2023 first-round pick and a 2024 fourth-rounder to the Broncos for pass rusher Bradley Chubb and a 2025 fifth-round selection, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
In the wake of Javonte Williams' season-ending ACL tear, Denver has operated a timeshare in its backfield, and Edmonds will provide another option alongside Melvin Gordon and Latavius Murray. It's unclear what kind of role Edmonds can expect with his new team, but in five campaigns between Arizona and Miami, he's averaged 4.5 yards per carry, hauled in 76 percent of his 181 targets and scored 17 touchdowns in 65 games.

Melvin Gordon RB | BAL
Broncos' Melvin Gordon: Faces new threat for backfield work
Gordon and Latavius Murray could see their opportunities out of the Denver backfield take a hit after the Broncos acquired Chase Edmonds from the Dolphins on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Denver and Miami executed a blockbuster deal ahead of the trade deadline, with Edmonds, a 2023 first-round pick and a 2024 fourth-round pick going to the Broncos in exchange for outside linebacker Bradley Chubb and a 2025 fifth-round selection. Edmonds had been in the midst of a disappointing first season in Miami and was struggling to find playing time behind Raheem Mostert, but the duo of Gordon and Murray likely represents less imposing competition for snaps and touches. Gordon and Murray had essentially split the work the past two weeks, with the former playing 53.6 percent of the snaps and carrying 20 times for 62 yards and a touchdown to go with five receptions for 40 yards between those contests. Murray, meanwhile, averaged 3.2 yards on 22 carries over those two weeks and hasn't made much of an impact as a receiver in recent seasons, so the door could be open for Edmonds to seize control of a three-down role. At least initially coming out of the Broncos' Week 9 bye week, Edmonds could be part of a three-headed timeshare in the backfield that would limit the fantasy upside of Edmonds, Gordon and Murray.

Nate McCrary RB | GB
Nate McCrary: Joins Carolina's practice squad
Carolina signed McCrary to its practice squad Tuesday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
McCrary will replace John Lovett as an emergency running back on Carolina's practice squad. The second-year pro out of Saginaw Valley State has only appeared in one career game, but he could be a candidate for elevation if Chuba Hubbard is ruled out for Week 9.

Demetric Felton RB | WAS
Browns' Demetric Felton: Returns one kick
Felton returned one kickoff for 11 yards and did not play on offense in Monday's 32-13 win over Cincinnati.
Felton has shifted roles all season. Some weeks he's on the active roster and some weeks he's not, and when he has been active, he's not always the primary kickoff returner. If the Browns trade either Kareem Hunt or D'Ernest Johnson, Felton's chances of seeing time on offense would improve, but rookie Jerome Ford (ankle) is eligible to return from injured reserve following the Browns' Week 9 bye.
-
D'Ernest Johnson RB | NE
Browns' D'Ernest Johnson: Mops up win
Johnson had four carries for 17 yards in Monday's 32-13 win over Cincinnati.
Johnson was given his first rushing attempts of the season, all on the game's final drive as Cleveland iced a blowout win. The Browns snapped a four-game losing streak and resuscitated their season with the victory, which may have the organization thinking about improvements for a playoff run. That means either Johnson or Kareem Hunt, both in the final year of their contracts, could be moved by Tuesday's trade deadline. If either of those events happen, Johnson's fantasy outlook should improve.

Joe Mixon RB | HOU
Bengals' Joe Mixon: More targets than carries in loss
Mixon rushed eight times for 27 yards and caught seven of nine targets for 32 yards in Monday's 32-13 loss to the Browns.
Mixon was bottled up in the first half, mustering only 17 scrimmage yards on nine touches as the Bengals took an 11-0 deficit into the locker room. Things didn't get much better for them in the second half, as the offense didn't get going until the game was well out of hand. Mixon's rushing attempts were limited with the team down big, but he tied his season highs in both targets and catches. A more favorable game script should lead to more carries for Mixon in Week 9, as the Bengals will be favored at home against the Panthers.
