Joe Mixon RB | HOU
Bengals' Joe Mixon: More targets than carries in loss
Mixon rushed eight times for 27 yards and caught seven of nine targets for 32 yards in Monday's 32-13 loss to the Browns.
Mixon was bottled up in the first half, mustering only 17 scrimmage yards on nine touches as the Bengals took an 11-0 deficit into the locker room. Things didn't get much better for them in the second half, as the offense didn't get going until the game was well out of hand. Mixon's rushing attempts were limited with the team down big, but he tied his season highs in both targets and catches. A more favorable game script should lead to more carries for Mixon in Week 9, as the Bengals will be favored at home against the Panthers.

Ezekiel Elliott RB | LAC
Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott: Seeking return in Week 10
Elliott (knee/thigh) is aiming to return to action following the Cowboys' Week 9 bye, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
On the heels of a Week 7 win against the Lions, Elliott was diagnosed with a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee and a bruised thigh, which didn't allow him to practice last week and ultimately resulted in his first absence of the campaign Sunday versus the Bears. With the team's midseason respite on tap, though, he relayed after Sunday's game that he'll continue to rest, but he'll "definitely be busy this week making sure I'm doing everything I can to make my knee ready" for a Week 10 road matchup with the Packers. Team owner Jerry Jones has maintained that Elliott is Dallas' No. 1 running back, when healthy. As such, if he's able to suit up after the bye, Elliott will force Tony Pollard, who turned 15 touches into 147 yards from scrimmage and three rushing TDs in Week 8, back to his customary complementary role.

Nick Chubb RB | HOU
Browns' Nick Chubb: Tops century mark with two TDs
Chubb rushed 23 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns in Monday's 32-13 win over the Bengals. He also caught his only target for three yards and ran in a two-point conversion.
Chubb found the end zone from three yards out on a direct snap to get the scoring started in the second quarter, then promptly tacked on a two-point conversion to give the Browns an 8-0 lead. Consecutive Chubb runs of 21 and six yards worked the ball down to the three-yard line on Cleveland's first drive of the second half, and quarterback Jacoby Brissett ran it in on the ensuing play to stretch Cleveland's lead to 18 points. Chubb put an exclamation point on his night with an 11-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, bringing his season touchdown total to 10. The star running back has been held to fewer than 87 rushing yards only once all season heading into Cleveland's Week 9 bye.

James Conner RB | ARI
Cardinals' James Conner: Termed 'day-to-day' by Kingsbury
Coach Kliff Kingsbury called Conner (ribs) day-to-day Monday, Bob McManaman of The Arizona Republic reports.
Kingsbury termed Conner day-to-day in the immediate aftermath of the running back injuring his ribs Week 5, but he's proceeded to miss three consecutive contests. Prior to being ruled out on the last occasion Friday, Conner managed a pair of limited practices Wednesday and Thursday before sitting out entirely to cap Week 8 prep. Those active sessions may have spurred Kingsbury's comment Monday, but Conner's activity level will be monitored this week to get a sense of his potential to return Sunday against the Seahawks. If he's able to do so, Conner could be eased into action with Eno Benjamin having taken on the lead role during the former's absence.

Kyren Williams RB | LAR
Rams' Kyren Williams: Could return from IR for Week 9
Coach Sean McVay said Monday that Williams (ankle) may be activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game at Tampa Bay, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Williams has been recovering from a high-ankle sprain that he sustained Week 1 and resided on IR since then. After the Rams designated him to return last Wednesday, he managed a pregame workout before this past Sunday's loss to the 49ers. With Cam Akers (personal) a candidate to be traded, the composition of L.A.'s backfield is up in the air at the moment, with all of Darrell Henderson, Malcolm Brown and practice squad member Ronnie Rivers getting in the mix Week 8. If Williams is able to join them Week 9, he could play an immediate role on passing downs.

Dwayne Washington RB | DEN
Saints' Dwayne Washington: Four carries in blowout win
Washington compiled four rushes for 13 yards on 13 offensive snaps during Sunday's 24-0 victory against the Raiders.
Washington was called upon in mop-up duty, as all four of his rushes came with the Saints already up 24-0 in the second half. The third-string running back played just eight offensive snaps over the previous four games, but he stepped up after Mark Ingram exited in the first half with what was later revealed as a sprained MCL. However, Washington still finished as New Orleans' third-leading rusher behind Alvin Kamara and versatile tight end Taysom Hill, the latter of whom logged 10 rushes for 61 yards against the Raiders. With Ingram likely to miss 3-to-4 weeks, Washington could stand to see increased rushing attempts if the Saints do not add an extra running back moving forward.

Raheem Blackshear RB | NYJ
Panthers' Raheem Blackshear: Only two carries
Blackshear rushed two times for one yard in Sunday's 37-34 overtime loss to the Falcons.
Blackshear played only nine offensive snaps, featuring for less than both starter D'Onta Foreman and practice-squad call up Spencer Brown. Although Brown reverted back to the practice team Monday, his six carries for 27 yards could make him Carolina's preferred backup for Foreman should Chuba Hubbard (ankle) remain sidelined for Week 9's game versus the Bengals.

Ronnie Rivers RB | LAR
Rams' Ronnie Rivers: Reverts to practice squad
Rivers reverted to the Rams' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
With Cam Akers (personal) out and Darrell Henderson dealing with an illness, Rivers was elevated to the active roster and played a sizable role against the 49ers. Rivers was barely out-snapped by Henderson, 24-21, but the former led the team in rushing attempts (eight) and rushing yards (21) while securing all four of his targets for 15 yards. Given the Rams opted to use the undrafted rookie out of Fresno State ahead of Malcolm Brown in Week 8, it seems likely that Rivers will get another elevation in Week 9, regardless of Henderson's and Akers' statuses.
-
Qadree Ollison RB | PIT
Qadree Ollison: Reverts to practice squad
Ollison reverted to Dallas' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Ollison made his season debut in Week 8 but saw just two offensive snaps, as Tony Pollard (31) and Malik Davis (19) dominated the work in the absence of Ezekiel Elliott (knee/thigh). With Dallas on bye in Week 9, Elliott will have plenty of time to clear his minor injuries, so it seems unlikely that Ollison will be elevated again when the Cowboys return to action in Week 10.

Spencer Brown RB | ATL
Panthers' Spencer Brown: Back to practice squad
Brown reverted to Carolina's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
With Christian McCaffrey gone and Chuba Hubbard (ankle) out, Brown made his season debut in Week 8. He played 18 offensive snaps, which was significantly behind D'Onta Foreman's 54 but ahead of Raheem Blackshear's seven. Brown rushed six times for 27 yards but failed to haul in his only target. If Hubbard remains out for Week 9, expect Brown to be elevated to the Panthers' active roster for a second straight game.
