  • Tyler Goodson RB | ATL

    Packers' Tyler Goodson: Injures shoulder

Goodson exited Friday's game against the Bengals due to a shoulder injury.

There is no word on whether Goodson is available to return, but expect the Packers to exercise caution. He had tallied two yards and one touchdown on three carries prior to sustaining the injury. With Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon presumably done for the game, and Lew Nichols not active, that leaves three running backs available for Green Bay for the remainder of the preseason contest.

  • Aaron Jones RB | MIN

Packers' Aaron Jones: Expected to play Friday

Jones is slated to play in Friday's preseason game in Cincinnati, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site reports.

Jones will join new Packers No. 1 signal-caller Jordan Love in the starting lineup for the team's exhibition opener. In fact, with only Lew Nichols not in line to suit up Friday, AJ Dillon, Patrick Taylor and Tyler Goodson, among others, will be available at running back for Green Bay.

  • Rachaad White RB | WAS

Buccaneers' Rachaad White: Not playing Friday

White isn't expected to play in Friday's preseason game versus the Steelers, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

White is the lone Buccaneers running back not suiting up for their preseason opener, which will allow Chase Edmonds, Ke'Shawn Vaughn, Sean Tucker, Patrick Laird and Ronnie Brown to man the backfield. After racking up 121 touches for 519 yards from scrimmage and two receiving TDs in the final eight regular-season games of 2022, White is slated to be Tampa Bay's lead runner in the coming campaign.

  • Nick Chubb RB | HOU

Browns' Nick Chubb: In line to rest Friday

Chubb is not in line to see action in Friday's preseason contest against the Commanders, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Per Cabot, top wideout Amari Cooper is also likely to be rested in the contest. With Jerome Ford (hamstring) unavailable Friday, Demetric Felton, John Kelly and Hassan Hall are slated to handle the team's backfield duties versus Washington.

  • Dolphins' Raheem Mostert: Not on track to play Friday

Mostert is not in line to play in Friday's preseason opener against the Falcons.

The same applies to felow RB Jeff Wilson (undisclosed), which sets the stage for some combo of De'Von Achane, Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed and Chris Brooks to log Miami's backfield snaps in Friday's contest. Mostert's next chance to log preseason work will arrive a week from Saturday against the Texans.

  • Sean Tucker RB | TB

Buccaneers' Sean Tucker: Impresses ahead of preseason opener

Tucker, who could see extended playing time in Friday night's preseason opener against the Steelers, has already been impressing during camp over the first couple of weeks, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.

Tucker saw a standout three-year college career at Syracuse go for naught in terms of the NFL Draft, as a congenital heart condition led to him being passed over altogether in late April. However, the Buccaneers came calling shortly thereafter, and Tucker was subsequently cleared to participate without restrictions in training camp. Smith's report indicates the 22-year-old has made good use of the opportunity thus far. With the backfield pecking order seemingly wide open behind top options Rachaad White and Chase Edmonds, Tucker will officially begin his quest to push Ke'Shawn Vaughn for snaps -- and potentially, a spot on the active roster altogether -- versus Pittsburgh.

  • Isiah Pacheco RB | DET

Chiefs' Isiah Pacheco: Sitting out preseason opener

Pacheco (hand/shoulder) won't play in Sunday's preseason opener against the Saints, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.

This development comes as no surprise since Pacheco has been limited in practice as he continues to recover from a pair of offseason surgeries. The running back is expected to be available for Week 1 of the regular season in September, but Pacheco may not play much, if at all, during the August exhibition slate.

  • Abram Smith RB | MIN

Vikings' Abram Smith: Seven carries in preseason debut

Smith had seven carries for 18 yards in Thursday's preseason loss at Seattle.

Smith got some action early in the game with Alexander Mattison sitting the contest out and Kene Nwangwu injured. He's still unlikely to make the final roster, but the XFL's leading rusher this past season showed a spark on a few plays despite a 2.6 YPC.

  • Raiders' Damien Williams: Signs with Vegas

Williams signed with the Raiders on Friday, per his agent Ian Greengross.

Williams joins a Vegas backfield that lacks an established pecking order behind Josh Jacobs, who is away from the team after failing to agree to a long-term contract. While Jacobs is more likely than not to eventually play for the Raiders in 2023, his absence will create an opportunity for Williams to distinguish himself in the preseason while competing against the likes of Zamir White, Ameer Abdullah and Brandon Bolden.

  • Kene Nwangwu RB | NYJ

Vikings' Kene Nwangwu: Misses preseason game with injury

Nwangwu did not play in Thursday's preseason loss at Seattle due to an undisclosed injury, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Meanwhile, Ty Chandler helped his case for the backup job to Alexander Mattison by rushing 11 times for 41 yards and catching all four of his targets for 29 yards. The competition for the backup role was seen as close in training camp before Thursday with neither player standing out, but Chandler likely now has a lead. Still, Nwangwu at times was reported to be more impressive than Chandler in spring and summer practices, so he could still win the battle or a significant role if he's able to play in a preseason game.
