Tony Pollard RB | TEN
Cowboys' Tony Pollard: Coach confident in recovery
Dallas coach Mike McCarthy is pleased with how Pollard (ankle) has looked in training camp so far, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. "He's put his foot in the ground on a number of runs, and I definitely think he's back."
The running back underwent a tightrope procedure in January to address the high-ankle sprain he suffered in the Cowboys' divisional-round loss to the 49ers, but Pollard's recovery has gone without a hitch and he remains on track to play Week 1 against the Giants. With Ezekiel Elliott no longer on the roster, Pollard is the unquestioned starter for an offense expected to be one of the more potent units in the league. Heading into his fifth NFL campaign, the Memphis product will be looking to top the 1,007 rushing yards, 1,378 scrimmage yards and 12 total touchdowns on 232 touches -- all career highs -- he accumulated over 16 games in 2022.

DeeJay Dallas RB | JAC
Seahawks' DeeJay Dallas: Falls flat in preseason start
Dallas rushed twice for one yard and wasn't targeted in Thursday's 24-13 preseason win over the Vikings.
Dallas got the start in Seattle's preseason opener but failed to find any running room before giving way to rookie second-round pick Zach Charbonnet, who turned six touches into 28 scrimmage yards. Charbonnet's expected to beat out Dallas for the backup spot behind Kenneth Walker (groin), but Dallas could close the gap if he posts a stronger performance in the second preseason game, which will be against the Cowboys on Aug. 19.

Zach Charbonnet RB | SEA
Seahawks' Zach Charbonnet: Six touches in preseason opener
Charbonnet rushed four times for 14 yards while catching both of his targets for 14 yards in Thursday's 24-13 preseason win over the Vikings.
Charbonnet's first NFL touch was a six-yard gain on a screen pass late in the first quarter. The 2023 second-round pick battled a shoulder injury recently but was deemed healthy enough to suit up for Seattle's preseason opener, unlike fellow running backs Kenneth Walker (groin) and Kenny McIntosh (knee). Charbonnet's expected to slot in as Walker's backup come the regular season. DeeJay Dallas started this game but gained just one yard on two carries, further cementing Charbonnet as the favorite for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart heading into Seattle's second preseason game, Aug. 19 against Dallas.

DeWayne McBride RB | MIN
Vikings' DeWayne McBride: Minimal impact in preseason opener
McBride rushed six times for 15 yards and wasn't targeted in Thursday's 24-13 preseason loss to the Seahawks.
McBride was the second running back into the game after Ty Chandler, but most of his touches came in the second half. The rookie seventh-round pick also had three kickoff returns for 50 yards in his NFL debut. McBride did little in this game to change his standing as Minnesota's No. 4 running back behind Alexander Mattison (undisclosed), Kene Nwangwu (undisclosed) and Chandler. He'll look to contribute more on offense in the second preseason game against the Titans on Aug. 19.

Ty Chandler RB | NO
Vikings' Ty Chandler: Helps case for backup job
Chandler rushed 11 times for 41 yards and caught all four of his targets for 29 yards in Thursday's 24-13 preseason loss to the Seahawks.
Chandler worked as the primary running back for the entire first half, and he showcased some shiftiness as both a rusher and a pass catcher. The 2022 fifth-round pick is in competition for the change-of-pace role behind Alexander Mattison in a Minnesota backfield that no longer features Dalvin Cook. Chandler's competition for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart comes from Kene Nwangwu (undisclosed), who missed this game but could be available for Minnesota's second preseason contest, along with rookie seventh-rounder DeWayne McBride.

Deon Jackson RB | DET
Colts' Deon Jackson: Sidelined by quad injury
Jackson (quad) did not practice Thursday does not expect to play in Saturday's preseason game at Buffalo, the team's official web site reports.
With top running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) on the PUP list and Zack Moss out with a broken arm, the Colts signed Jason Huntley on Wednesday to add depth to the running back room. If Jackson is able to quickly move past his injury, he could have a significant role with the Colts if Taylor remains sidelined for the start of the regular season. However, the Colts may add a veteran instead of giving Jackson a look in a leading role in that scenario.

Kevin Harris RB | JAC
Patriots' Kevin Harris: Garners eight carries
Harris rushed eight times for 10 yards in Thursday night's 20-9 loss to the Texans in the preseason opener.
Harris saw fellow tailback Pierre Strong start the game before coming in during New England's second offensive drive. While Strong totaled 33 yards on his nine touches, Harris barely averaged over one yard per carry and was not targeted. The two are competing for backup work behind Rhamondre Stevenson and both should get more chances in next Saturday's preseason game against Green Bay.

Pierre Strong Jr. RB | GB
Patriots' Pierre Strong: Gets nine touches
Strong rushed six times for 21 yards and caught all three of his targets for 12 yards in Thursday night's 20-9 loss to the Texans in the preseason opener.
Strong started but alternated with fellow tailback Kevin Harris, who rushed eight times for 10 yards. The pair of running backs are currently competing with Ty Montgomery (leg) -- who sat out Thursday's contest -- for slotting behind ascending starter Rhamondre Stevenson.

Devin Singletary RB | NYG
Texans' Devin Singletary: Starts preseason opener
Singletary started and rushed five times for 14 yards in Thursday night's 20-9 win over the Patriots in the preseason opener.
Singletary worked with Houston's first team while second-year tailback Dameon Pierce was rested for the exhibition opener. Although Pierce profiles as the Texans' starter, Singletary represents an experienced alternative after topping 950 scrimmage yards each of his first four seasons in the league.

Zach Charbonnet RB | SEA
Seahawks' Zach Charbonnet: In line to suit up Thursday
Charbonnet is slated to play in Thursday's preseason game versus the Vikings, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
While the Seahawks' No. 1 running back Kenneth Walker (groin) and 2023 seventh-round pick Kenny McIntosh (knee) won't suit up for the team's exhibition opener, Charbonnet will get some run Thursday after dealing with a shoulder issue in the early stages of training camp. However, Charbonnet has been able to put together a week of uninterrupted practices, allowing him to get his first game action in the NFL. Considering his status as a rookie second-rounder, though, he may not see much more than a series or two.
