  • Patriots' Ezekiel Elliott: Inking one-year deal with Pats

Elliott reached a one-year agreement Monday with the Patriots, which includes a $3 million base salary and a $1 million signing bonus, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. The contract can be worth up to $6 million factoring in incentives.

After spending the first seven years of his career with the Cowboys, Elliott provides his new team with an experienced complementary option to work behind returning lead back Rhamondre Stevenson. Though the presence of Stevenson figures to cap Elliott's weekly workload, the 28-year-old could see enough early-down and short-yardage touches to merit fantasy attention in deeper formats. Meanwhile, the addition of the veteran back leaves Ty Montgomery (leg), Pierre Strong (undisclosed), Kevin Harris and J.J. Taylor to compete for depth/change-of-pace slotting in New England's backfield.

  • Saints' Darrel Williams: Headed to New Orleans

Williams signed a contract with the Saints on Monday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Williams had his season end early in 2022 after suffering a hip injury while with the Cardinals. Now, he'll come to New Orleans and provide some depth to a backfield that is dealing with multiple injuries. With Alvin Kamara (suspension) set to miss the first three weeks, along with Kendre Miller (knee) and Kirk Merritt (hamstring) currently ailing -- not to mention Eno Benjamin (Achilles) already going on IR -- it's been a rough camp for Saints running backs. Williams at least will provide some veteran depth during practice, while he'll aim to make the team's final roster.

  • Patriots' Rhamondre Stevenson: Backfield depth added

The Patriots have added depth and experience to their backfield behind Stevenson by adding Ezekiel Elliott to the mix, Evan Lazar of the team's official site reports.

Although Stevenson remains to the team's top option at running back, the addition of Elliott gives the Patriots a proven veteran to handle complementary work and help ease their returning starter's workload. From a fantasy perspective, the presence of Elliott could cost Stevenson some work in early-down and short-yardage situations, but the 2021 fourth-rounder still should handle enough touches -- including in the team's passing game, per Lazar -- on a weekly basis to maintain lineup utility. Beyond the aforementioned duo, Ty Montgomery (leg), Pierre Strong (undisclosed) and Kevin Harris are in the mix for depth/change-of-pace slotting in New England's RB corps.

  • Patriots' Ezekiel Elliott: Expected to sign with New England

The Patriots are expected to sign Elliott on Monday to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Elliott was released by the Cowboys on March 15 and has been entertaining offers since, but it looks like the veteran running back has finally found a new home. The 28-year-old is coming off the least productive season of his career from a yardage standpoint and found himself as a secondary option behind Tony Pollard to end 2022, but he did record 12 rushing touchdowns, marking the fourth time he's reached double digits in his seven-year career. In New England, Elliott will presumably still be a backup, as Rhamondre Stevenson has established himself as the team's No. 1, but he'll have a chance to carve out a complementary gig ahead of players like Ty Montgomery (leg), Pierre Strong (undisclosed) and Kevin Harris.

  • Kene Nwangwu RB | NYJ

    Vikings' Kene Nwangwu: Remains sidelined

Nwangwu (undisclosed) did not practice Monday, Dane Mizutani of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Nwangwu also sat out the team's preseason loss to the Seahawks on Thursday and dealt with an undisclosed injury earlier in camp, although it's not clear if the two are related. The Iowa State product is believed to still be in competition with Ty Chandler for the backup role to Alexander Mattison. However, if Nwangwu continues to miss time, he may fall short in that battle, at least to start the season.

  • Titans' Jonathan Ward: Misses practice

Ward (knee) was a non-participant at Monday's practice, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official website reports.

Ward injured his knee in Saturday's preseason opener against the Bears. He tallied eight yards on two carries prior to exiting the exhibition. The 25-year-old landed on the Titans' practice squad midway through the 2022 campaign and ultimately suited up for three games. He is competing for a depth role at running back behind Derrick Henry and Tyjae Spears this season.

  • Patriots' Pierre Strong: Absent from practice Monday

Strong (undisclosed) didn't practice Monday, Mark Daniels of MassLive reports.

With Strong and Ty Montgomery (leg) both unavailable Monday, more reps were left over for Kevin Harris, J.J. Taylor and CJ Marable behind Rhamondre Stevenson. Strong will look to make a prompt return, as he's looking to secure the primary backup role in his second NFL season. The 2022 fourth-round pick started Thursday's preseason opener against Houston and turned nine touches into 33 scrimmage yards.

  • Hassan Haskins RB | LAC

Titans' Hassan Haskins: Sitting out practice

Haskins (undisclosed) did not practice Monday, John Glennon of SI.com reports.

Haskins is working to earn the backup role to Derrick Henry for the 2023 campaign, although it's expected he'll ultimately be No. 3, seated behind third-round rookie Tyjae Spears. It's not clear what kind of injury Haskins is dealing with or how long he may be absent. The team did sign Jacques Patrick to a contract Monday, which could mean they expect Haskins to miss more than a day or two. Haskins now will focus on getting healthy and returning to the mix of the Titans' backfield competition.

  • Titans' Jacques Patrick: Inks new deal

Patrick signed a two-year contract with the Titans on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Patrick has found a new opportunity after being waived by the Broncos in May. The Florida State product last saw NFL game action in 2021 with the 49ers and has since also had stops in Cincinnati and with the XFL's San Antonio Brahmas. He'll now work to make the most of his chance with Tennessee.

  • J.K. Dobbins RB | DEN

Ravens' J.K. Dobbins: Makes practice debut

Dobbins (undisclosed) is participating in practice Monday, Ryan Mink of the Ravens' official site reports.

Dobbins has been activated from the active/PUP list and is participating in his first practice session of training camp, meaning he could be available for next Monday's preseason game against the Commanders. The 24-year-old missed Baltimore's preseason opener, in addition to the first 14 practices of training camp, but he still has just under a month to get up to full speed before Sept. 10's regular-season opener against the Texans. Dobbins has been in attendance at team meetings, but on-field reps will be extremely valuable for the expected leader of a backfield that also houses Gus Edwards, Justice Hill, Melvin Gordon and Keaton Mitchell.
