  • Jaylen Warren RB | PIT

Steelers' Jaylen Warren: Rips off long score

Warren rushed the ball once for 62 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 27-15 preseason win over the Bills.

Warren entered the game as the second running back behind Najee Harris, but his lone carry came with the entire first-team offense on the field. He weaved through the Bills' defense for the long score and showcased some needed big-play ability out of the backfield. Warren is still likely to begin the regular season as the second back behind Harris, but he's making the case to see the field more regularly in his second professional campaign.

  • Travis Homer RB | PIT

Bears' Travis Homer: Totals six touches Saturday

Homer recorded five carries for 13 yards and one catch (on one target) for four yards during Saturday's 24-17 preseason defeat at Indianapolis.

With Khalil Herbert sitting out Saturday, the Bears trotted out D'Onta Foreman, rookie fourth-round pick Roschon Johnson and Homer in order. Foreman managed four touches for 18 yards, while Johnson reeled off a 14-yard run and 11-yard reception on his way to eight touches for 43 total yards. Considering Homer's prowess as a pass catcher, that likely will be his calling card if he's able to land a regular role in Chicago's offense. He'll have one more opportunity to stake a claim in the team's exhibition finale Saturday, Aug. 26 against the Bills.

  • James Conner RB | ARI

Cardinals' James Conner: Light usage in preseason loss

Conner rushed twice for 15 yards in the Cardinals' 38-10 preseason loss to the Chiefs on Saturday night.

Conner took the ball on Arizona's first play from scrimmage and recorded a six-yard carry, and after a nine-yard gain during the Cardinals' second drive, the veteran back's night was done. The 28-year-old once again lines up to helm the backfield in 2023, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him sit out next Saturday afternoon's road matchup against the Vikings.

  • Bears' Roschon Johnson: Notches eight touches Saturday

Johnson turned seven carries into 32 yards and hauled in his only target for 11 yards during Saturday's 24-17 preseason loss in Indianapolis.

The Bears gave Khalil Herbert the night off Saturday, allowing D'Onta Foreman the first chance to lead the backfield. Once Johnson took over from Foreman in the second quarter, the rookie fourth-rounder outproduced the veteran in yards from scrimmage, 43-18, on four more touches. The breakdown of Chicago's RB room appears to be unsettled with just one exhibition to go, so Johnson's performance Saturday, Aug. 26 versus the Bills will be one to monitor ahead of Week 1.

  • Chiefs' Clyde Edwards-Helaire: First back with touch Saturday

Edwards-Helaire rushed four times for 10 yards and brought in both targets for eight yards in the Chiefs' 38-10 preseason win over the Cardinals on Saturday night.

Edwards-Helaire was the first Chiefs back to log a touch Saturday and finished second in carries overall. However, La'Mical Perine (6-41-0), Deneric Prince (6-20-1) and even Jerick McKinnon (1-19-0) were all more productive on a per-touch basis. Nevertheless, Edwards-Helaire has a chance to retain an early-down role alongside Isiah Pacheco (hand/shoulder) once the regular season begins.

  • James Cook RB | BUF

Bills' James Cook: Works solely with first team

Cook rushed the ball three times for three yards in Saturday's 27-15 preseason loss to the Steelers.

Cook didn't do anything with his two touches, but his usage was more telling. He worked only with the first-team offense, and while Latavius Murray also got some work with Josh Allen, he notably played multiple possessions with backup Matt Barkley. All indications are that the Bills intend to deploy Cook as their top back come the regular season.

  • Broncos' Javonte Williams: Successful return from injury

Williams (knee) rushed three times for 12 yards and caught four of five targets for 18 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the 49ers.

Williams completed his impressive recovery from a torn ACL (sustained in Week 4 last season) with Saturday's exhibition appearance. Head coach Sean Payton stuck to his plan of giving the 23-year-old 10-to-12 plays with the starters, finishing with seven touches for 30 yards. It's unclear if Williams will play in Denver's preseason finale against the Rams on Saturday. Either way, it appears that Williams is ramping up for Week 1, which should ease the thoughts of concerned fantasy managers after last year's major injury.

  • D'Onta Foreman RB | CLE

Bears' D'Onta Foreman: Earns four touches Saturday

Foreman had three carries for 12 yards and gathered in his only target for six yards during Saturday's 24-17 preseason loss at Indianapolis.

With Khalil Herbert getting the night off, Foreman was the first Bears running back to receive a touch, followed by rookie fourth-round pick Roschon Johnson (eight touches, 43 total yards) and Travis Homer (six and 17, respectively). The order seems to indicate Foreman is second on the team's RB depth chart, but Foreman's size (6-foot, 235) likely gives him a leg up for short-yardage and goal-line work among the quartet. In any case, he'll have one more chance to make an impression on the coaching staff Saturday, Aug. 26 against the Bills.

  • Zonovan Knight RB | ARI

Jets' Zonovan Knight: Serves as main back Saturday

Knight rushed eight times for 33 yards and brought in three of four targets for 20 yards in the Jets' 13-6 preseason loss to the Buccaneers on Saturday night. He also returned one kickoff for 23 yards and lost a fumble.

Dalvin Cook (shoulder), Breece Hall (knee) and Michael Carter were all given the night off, while Israel Abanikanda (thigh) suffered an in-game injury, all adding up to a busy night for Knight. The second-year back was reasonably productive on a per-touch basis, but his early second-quarter fumble did lead to a Buccaneers field goal. Knight is presumably battling Abanikanda for the No. 4 running back role, and he could well have sealed that job partly by default due the rookie's injury.

  • Aaron Jones RB | MIN

Packers' Aaron Jones: Low usage this preseason

Jones took his lone carry for six yards and was not targeted as a receiver in Saturday's preseason loss to New England.

Jones has started both of Green Bay's preseason games, but he has seen just one carry and one reception (both for six yards) so far this exhibition season. Fantasy managers should not panic, as the Packers are simply trying to keep the star running back healthy as the regular season nears. With Aaron Rodgers leaving for New York, the remaining Aaron should be a focal point of the Packers offense for quarterback Jordan Love's first season as starter.
