  • Daniel Jones QB | IND

Giants' Daniel Jones: Shifts to IR

The Giants placed Jones (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Though no date has been set for Jones to have surgery, he'll require a season-ending procedure on his right knee after he suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's loss to the Raiders, in what was his first appearance since a three-game absence due to a neck injury. Across six appearances in 2023, Jones finished a 67.5 percent completion rate to go with a 5.7 YPA and 2:6 TD:INT. Despite Jones having signed a sizable four-year extension during the offseason that contains $35.5 million fully guaranteed for 2024, there are now legitimate questions about whether New York will decide to proceed forth with him as the team's franchise quarterback. In addition facing a projected nine-month recovery timetable that could affect his availability for training camp, Jones is coming off a statistically unimpressive 2023 showing, and the the Giants could now be primed to enter the 2024 NFL Draft with an early first-round pick. In a corresponding transaction to Jones' placement on IR, veteran Matt Barkley has been signed from the practice squad to serve as the backup to new starting quarterback Tommy DeVito in Week 10 against the Cowboys.

  • Tommy DeVito QB | NE

Giants' Tommy DeVito: Named Week 10 starter

Giants head coach Brian Daboll confirmed Wednesday that DeVito will start Sunday at Dallas, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

DeVito will pick up his first NFL start Sunday with Daniel Jones (knee) having suffered a season-ending ACL tear and Tyrod Taylor (ribs) not eligible to return from injured reserve until Week 14 against the Packers at the earliest. Veteran Matt Barkley, who was signed off the practice squad Wednesday, will operate as DeVito's backup. While coming on in relief of the injured Jones during the Giants' blowout loss to the Raiders in Week 9, DeVito completed 15 of 20 pass attempts for 175 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions while rushing four times for 17 yards.

  • Matt Barkley QB | JAC

Giants' Matt Barkley: Joins active roster

The Giants will sign Barkley to the active roster from their practice squad Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Barkley takes up the roster spot vacated by Daniel Jones (knee), who was placed on injured reserve. With Jones lost for the season and with Tyrod Taylor (ribs) facing an uncertain timeline to return from IR, Barkley will join Tommy DeVito as the only healthy quarterbacks on the Giants' roster. DeVito is expected to start Sunday against the Cowboys, but given his struggles in the Giants' past two games while coming off the bench, the undrafted rookie hardly has much security atop the depth chart. It wouldn't be surprising if Barkley eventually unseats DeVito as the team's starter.

  • Dresser Winn QB | LAR

Dresser Winn: Cut loose from practice squad

The Rams cut Winn from their practice squad Tuesday.

Winn spent six days with Los Angeles, but the Rams made a big move on Tuesday to add Carson Wentz as Matthew Stafford's backup. In addition to Winn, the Rams also waived veteran Brett Rypien.

  • Kyler Murray QB | MIN

Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Back on active roster

The Cardinals activated Murray (knee) from the reserve/PUP list Tuesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.

Murray is closing in on his return from a torn ACL in his right knee that he suffered Dec. 12 of last season. Over the past two weeks, he was listed as doubtful to play in Week 8 and then questionable to suit up in Week 9, but Arizona elected not to activate him for either game. Murray seems on track to make his season debut Sunday against the Falcons.

  • Jacob Eason QB | GB

Jacob Eason: Added to Giants practice squad

The Giants signed Eason to their practice squad Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

With Daniel Jones (knee) done for the season and Tyrod Taylor (ribs) out until at least Dec. 11, Eason is needed behind rookie Tommy DeVito. Eason has appeared in two NFL games, completing just five of 10 passes for 84 yards and two interceptions with the Colts and Panthers.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Limited again Tuesday

Fields (thumb) remained limited on Tuesday's estimated practice report.

The Bears play the Panthers on Thursday night but have only conducted a pair of walkthroughs Monday and Tuesday to open the practice week. Fields remains day-to-day, and it's unclear if he'll return to face Carolina. If he doesn't make the start, it'll again be rookie Tyson Bagent under center.

  • Carson Wentz QB | MIN

Carson Wentz: Finds new home in L.A.

Wentz is slated to sign with the Rams, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Wentz is expected to slide in as a veteran backup to Matthew Stafford, who missed part of the Rams' Week 8 loss to the Cowboys and all of the team's Week 9 loss to the Packers with a thumb injury. The Rams are hoping that Wentz can provide an upgrade to the overall depth of the position group after Brett Rypien completed just 13 of 28 attempts for 172 yards and an interception while starting in place of the injured Stafford in Week 9. The Rams are on bye Week 10, so Wentz will have added time to get up to speed with the playbook in the event Stafford isn't ready to return for a Week 11 tilt against the Seahawks.

  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Titans' Ryan Tannehill: Will be Levis' backup

Head coach Mike Vrabel announced Tuesday that Tannehill will be the Titans' backup quarterback behind Will Levis moving forward, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.

The veteran appears to be ready to return from his ankle injury, but he's lost his starting job to the rookie. Prior to getting hurt in London in Week 6, Tannehill had completed just 62 percent of his throws for 1,128 yards and a meager two touchdowns versus six interceptions. Levis has given the offense life as a more willing downfield passer, and 2023 is the final year of Tannehill's contract, so there's a real chance he's played his last snap for the Titans. Malik Willis will presumably be the emergency third quarterback.

  • Will Levis QB | TEN

Titans' Will Levis: Will start moving forward

Head coach Mike Vrabel said Tuesday that Levis will remain the Titans' starting quarterback moving forward, Joe Rexrode of The Athletic reports.

Meanwhile, Ryan Tannehill (ankle) will serve as Levis' backup as soon as he's healthy enough to play, per Turron Davenport of ESPN.com. Levis has put together two straight productive performances in which he completed 41 of 68 passes (60.3 percent) for 500 yards, four touchdowns and one interception while also running eight times for 13 yards. He'll look to keep up the pace Sunday on the road against the Buccaneers' 31st-ranked pass defense (279.4 yards per game).
