Tannehill (shoulder) was on the field for the start of practice Wednesday, but wasn't seen throwing during drills, Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

Tannehill's practice limitations Wednesday confirm that he remains in the day-to-day category as Sunday's game against the Lions approaches. If he's unable to play this weekend, Brock Osweiler -- who racked up 380 passing yards in the Week 6 overtime win over the Bears -- would be in line to draw another start at quarterback.

Peterman will remain in a backup role Sunday against the Colts with coach Sean McDermott announcing that Derek Anderson would start at quarterback in place of the injured Josh Allen (elbow), Sal Maiorana of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports.

After Peterman tossed two interceptions -- including one that was returned for a touchdown -- in relief of Allen during the Bills' Week 6 loss to the Texans, McDermott couldn't justify turning the starting job back over to the second-year signal-caller. Peterman has struggled mightily across his six career regular-season appearances, completing just 44.3 percent of his passes while throwing for three scores and nine picks. Even though Allen is considered week-to-week and seems likely to miss multiple games, the Bills will hand the keys to the offense over to the 35-year-old Anderson, who doesn't fit into the team's long-term plans but should provide more stability behind center than Peterman.

Coach Sean McDermott announced that Allen (elbow) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Colts and is considered week-to-week, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

McDermott also relayed that veteran Derek Anderson would take over as the team's starting quarterback in place of Allen, who has been diagnosed with a right elbow sprain but won't require surgery at this time. Allen likely will be withheld from practice this week and treat the injury through rest and rehab, with the hope of returning to action after missing only two or three games. Nathan Peterman will serve as Anderson's backup while the rookie is sidelined.

Allen (elbow) is expected to miss 2-to-3 games, after which he'll be considered "week-to-week," Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports.

Although Tommy John surgery isn't an option after Dr. James Andrews reviewed an MRI of Allen's right elbow, he'll need a few games to rest and rehab before the Bills will ponder the notion of trotting him out there on gamedays. Without Allen, there's a bit of a quarterback quandary in Buffalo. Nathan Peterman has the most experience with the current coaching staff and its playbook, but his turnover-prone ways have not diminished, with two interceptions in both of his appearances this season. Meanwhile, veteran Derek Anderson has 47 career starts to his name but only signed with the Bills last Tuesday.

Savage signed a contract with the 49ers on Tuesday, Jordan Schultz of ESPN reports.

After a few weeks with just two quarterbacks on their active roster, the 49ers, as expected, will add the journeyman Savage to bolster the depth at the position. C.J. Beathard has shown enough in relief of Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) to validate his spot as the starter for the remainder of the season, but it remains yet to be seen whether Savage will operate as the backup or the No. 3 option behind Nick Mullens.

The Bills don't believe Allen will need Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. "You don't see a whole lot of that in football and the hope is here that this will not be the case with Josh Allen, that it will be something that will keep him out maybe a couple of weeks here but they're hopeful that it is something that will heal," Garafolo said.

Allen has been diagnosed with a UCL injury, which was accompanied by a "week-to-week" tag from coach Sean McDermott. Considering Garafolo's comments, Allen doesn't seem like a great bet to suit up for Sunday's game at Indianapolis, but McDermott hasn't ruled Allen out, according to Chris Brown of the Bills' official site. When the Bills eventually make a decision on their upcoming starter under center, Derek Anderson seemingly has a better shot to be tabbed than interception machine Nathan Peterman, per Dianna Russini of ESPN.

Rodgers said after Monday's victory over the 49ers that he is hoping to shed his knee brace during the Packers' bye week, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL.com.

Rodgers will certainly benefit from the Packers' off week, but whether or not he will get rid of the brace will depend on just how much improvement his knee shows in the coming days. Rodgers has still been effective and somewhat mobile despite his injury -- he picked up 34 yards on three runs Monday -- but his play could get even better as he gets back, or at least close, to 100 percent.

Allen (elbow) won't be available to start Sunday's game against the Colts, Dianna Russini of ESPN reports. The report adds that there's concern within the organization that Allen "will miss weeks."

Buffalo hasn't officially ruled the quarterback out for Week 7 action, but coach Sean McDermott did acknowledge that he views the signal-caller as "week to week." Per Russini, the Bills haven't decided who will start at quarterback during the upcoming weekend, but there's a "feeling in the organization" that veteran Derek Anderson "has to start" over Nathan Peterman, who struggled in relief of Allen during the Week 6 loss to the Texans.

Beathard completed 16 of 23 passes for 245 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Monday night's 33-30 loss to the Packers.

Beathard enjoyed a great start at Lambeau Field, tossing two touchdowns from 30-plus yards. With Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) injured, Beathard figures to lead the 49ers for the remainder of this season, and has now thrown for two touchdowns in three straight games. While his five interceptions over that same span are cause for concern, Beathard has proven a decent fill-in option for San Francisco while its franchise signal-caller is sidelined.

Savage is expected to sign with the 49ers, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports reports.

The 49ers have been looking to add a third quarterback to the roster ever since Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) landed on injured reserve. Savage is expected to be the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart behind C.J. Beathard and Nick Mullens.
