Ka'imi Fairbairn K | HOU
Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: No more competition
After the Texans waived kicker Jake Bates, Fairbairn has no competition for the job.
The decision to bring Bates into the mix looks like it was done to give Fairbairn some rest early in camp and for some good PR, as Bates is a local product from the Houston suburbs (Tomball). Fairbairn, who did not play in lat week's preseason opener against the Patriots, is expected to be the lone kicker Saturday against the Dolphins.

Tanner Brown K | ATL
Rams' Tanner Brown: Misses 46-yard attempt in loss
Brown connected on one of two field-goal attempts and converted both of his extra-point attempts during the Rams' 34-17 preseason loss to the Chargers on Saturday.
A 46-yard field-goal attempt by Brown in the third quarter sailed wide left, while the rookie kicker nailed two PATs and a 39-yard field goal. The Rams haven't signed anyone to compete with Brown for the starting role after Christopher Dunn was waived, but with Brown's longest field goal in college clocking in at a mere 52 yards, any more struggles with accuracy on intermediate kicks could force the Rams to look for veteran help to challenge the rookie.

Jake Moody K | WAS
49ers' Jake Moody: Gets off on wrong foot
Moody missed both of his field-goal attempts (1-for-1 on PATs) in his preseason debut against the Raiders on Sunday.
Moody shanked his first attempt left from 40 yards out following one of the few lengthy drives by the offense Sunday. He squared up his next kick, but it was a 58-yard desperation attempt. This is a concerning start for a kicker the 49ers drafted in the third round in order to avoid re-signing one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history, Robbie Gould. That is no fault of Moody, who will look to right the ship against Denver on Saturday.

Chris Boswell K | PIT
Steelers' Chris Boswell: Doesn't play in preseason opener
Boswell didn't play in Friday's 27-17 preseason win over the Buccaneers.
The Steelers signed B.T. Potter as an undrafted free agent during the offseason to compete with Boswell for the starting placekicker job, and the former got the first chance to contribute during the preseason. Potter converted both of his field-goal attempts while making all three of his extra-point tries in the win, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Boswell get a chance to kick as the preseason progresses.

Brandon Aubrey K | DAL
Cowboys' Brandon Aubrey: Misses extra point against Jags
Aubrey connected on his only field-goal attempt and converted two of three extra-point attempts in Saturday's preseason loss to the Jaguars.
The former USFL player is the only kicker currently in camp for the Cowboys, but Aubrey didn't build up any job security with his missed PAT in his first preseason action with the team. It still remains likely that Dallas will bring in competition for the 28-year-old before Week 1.

Tyler Bass K | BUF
Bills' Tyler Bass: Whiffs on extra point
Bass made his only field-goal attempt -- a 40-yarder -- and was 2-of-3 on extra-point attempts in Saturday's preseason win over the Colts.
The extra-point miss was a rarity for Bass, who's hit 99 of them on 101 attempts over the last two regular seasons, so we'll chalk it up as an anomaly. He has no competition ahead of the season and is locked into the starting kicker role for his fourth NFL campaign. Bass has reportedly looked great in training camp as well. The weather is always a concern during fantasy playoff weeks, but Bass has proven himself to be quite reliable and plays in an offense that is typically in the league's top group. He should be one of the first five kickers off the board in almost any format.

B.T. Potter K | PIT
Steelers' B.T. Potter: Perfect in preseason opener
Potter converted both of his field-goal attempts while making all three of his extra-point tries during Friday's 27-17 preseason win over Tampa Bay.
Potter joined the Steelers as an undrafted free agent during the offseason to compete with Chris Boswell for the starting placekicking job. Potter got the first opportunity to kick during the preseason, while Boswell didn't see the field. It wouldn't be surprising to see Boswell have some chances to play later in the preseason, but Potter had an encouraging performance Friday.

Eddy Pineiro K | SF
Panthers' Eddy Pineiro: Not expected to play Saturday
Pineiro (groin) isn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Jets, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
As expected, Pineiro will miss the team's first exhibition due to a groin issue that has bothered him during training camp. In his stead, Matthew Wright will presumably handle all kicking duties. Pineiro's next chance to see game action will arrive Friday against the Giants.

Chase McLaughlin K | TB
Buccaneers' Chase McLaughlin: Limited to extra points Friday
McLaughlin converted both extra-point tries in the Buccaneers' 27-17 preseason loss to the Steelers on Friday. He did not record any field-goal attempts.
McLaughlin's competition for the placekicker job, Rodrigo Blankenship, successfully handled the Buccaneers' lone field-goal attempt from 35 yards out. Consequently, the battle between the two kickers seemingly remains as tight as ever heading into another week of training camp practices ahead of next Saturday's road preseason matchup against the Jets.

Rodrigo Blankenship K | TB
Buccaneers' Rodrigo Blankenship: Drills only kick Friday
Blakenship converted his lone field-goal attempt -- from 35 yards out -- in the Buccaneers' 27-17 preseason loss to the Steelers on Friday. He did not have any extra-point tries.
Blankenship was true on his one boot and his competition for the placekicker job, Chase McLaughlin, handled both of Tampa Bay's point-after tries successfully. Consequently, the battle between the two kickers seemingly remains deadlocked heading into another week of training camp practices ahead of next Saturday's road preseason matchup against the Jets.
