The Seahawks exercised Witherspoon's fifth-year option for 2027 on Friday. The No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 Draft, Witherspoon has been named to the Pro Bowl all three seasons in the NFL and was a second-team All-Pro selection last season. Witherspoon started all 12 games in which he appeared in 2025, producing 72 tackles (48 solo), including 0.5 sacks, seven pass breakups, including one interception, and one fumble recovery. With the option exercised, Witherspoon is set to earn $21.1 million in 2027.

Witherspoon recorded four solo tackles, 1.0 sacks and a pass breakup in Sunday's 29-13 win over the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Witherspoon was sent on the blitz multiple times and seemingly made an impact on each trip. He was fantastic in coverage, too, helping secure the Super Bowl win in his third season. The 2023 first-round pick recorded 89 tackles (61 solo), 11 pass breakups, 1.5 sacks and an interception through 15 games, including the playoffs. Witherspoon is heading into the final year of his rookie contract, although he'll almost certainly have his fifth-year option picked up.

Witherspoon recorded four total tackles (three solo) and a pass defensed in Sunday's 27-10 win over the Panthers. Witherspoon registered his fewest takedowns since Week 12, but it may have been the result of Seattle holding Carolina to just 53 offensive snaps in the contest. However, the cornerback was able to produce at least one pass defensed for the fourth time in six games. Witherspoon has now compiled 68 total tackles (45 solo), including 0.5 sacks, while also adding seven passes defensed, one of which is an interception, and a fumble recovery over 11 contests this year.

Witherspoon posted nine tackles (five solo) during the Seahawks' 38-37 overtime win over the Rams on Thursday. Witherspoon matched a season high that he set in Week 4 against the Cardinals and finished as the Seahawks' fourth-leading tackler behind Drake Thomas (13), Ernest Jones (12) and Nick Emmanwori (11). Since the Seahawks' Week 8 bye, Witherspoon has totaled 47 tackles (30 solo), five pass defenses (one interception) and one fumble recovery across eight games.

Witherspoon (knee) practiced in full Wednesday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports. Witherspoon has been out for each of Seattle's last three games with the knee injury. His full participation to begin the week should set him up for a return and a key role in the secondary in Week 9 against the Commanders.
