Allen will sit for Saturday's preseason game against the Browns, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports. Allen played in the preseason opener against the Panthers on Saturday, Aug. 15, when he completed six of eight passes for 111 yards and a touchdown in a 29-14 win. However, it looks like the superstar quarterback and other key skill position players will be sidelined against Cleveland. It's unclear whether Allen will also be held out of the Bills' preseason finale against the Steelers this upcoming Thursday.

Allen completed six of eight passes for 111 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 29-14 preseason win over the Panthers. Getting the start in the Bills' preseason opener, Allen played the entire first quarter and led his team on two scoring drives, the second of which ended in a nine-yard TD strike to Keon Coleman. Allen didn't run the ball, but the 30-year-old quarterback is saving his legs for the regular season after scoring at least 12 rushing TDs each of the last three years and topping 500 rushing yards each of the last five.

Head coach Joe Brady said Thursday that Allen and the rest of Buffalo's healthy starters will play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Panthers, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports. Brady added that he wants Allen to be competitive but mindful Saturday, per Glab. Allen is expected to start Saturday's preseason game but probably won't play more than a few series before giving way to backups Kyle Allen and Shane Buechele.

Coach Joe Brady said Tuesday that Allen is "good to go" after the quarterback underwent foot surgery in the offseason, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports. Allen reported soreness after Week 16 last season that eventually proved to be a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. The procedure was performed after the Bills' divisional-round loss in Denver, and he's on track for an expected recovery time of 8-to-10 weeks. Allen is coming off another fantastic season in which he completed a career-best 69.3 percent of his passes for 3,668 yards, 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while rushing 112 times for 579 yards and 14 more TDs in 17 regular-season games. Now that his health isn't a concern, he can begin building chemistry with the Bills' most notable offseason addition, wideout DJ Moore.

Allen (foot) is sporting crutches and a walking boot at new head coach Joe Brady's introductory press conference Thursday, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports. GM Brandon Beane said Wednesday that Allen may require an offseason procedure on his right foot, but the star quarterback's availability for the offseason program won't be impacted if he does go under the knife. Allen's use of a walking boot and crutches one day later could be quiet confirmation that such a procedure has already been scheduled or accomplished. The 29-year-old initially injured his foot in Week 16, resulting in lingering soreness that he dealt with until the end of the 2025 campaign. Prior to Buffalo's loss to Denver in the divisional round, Allen also dealt with injuries to his left knee and right finger. In any case, all expectations are that Allen will be ready to take the field with his teammates by the start of OTAs in May, providing plenty of time to adjust to the first change at head coach he's seen in his eight-year NFL career.
