  • J.D. Thompson SP | MIL

Brewers' J.D. Thompson: Pro debut delayed

Thompson has not been assigned to a minor-league affiliate as he recovers from a hamstring strain, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports.

He suffered the injury in spring training and should join High-A Wisconsin around the start of May. Thompson was a polished left-handed starter in the SEC, and there's a chance the Brewers might be able to improve his stuff with pro instruction.

  • Zach Eflin SP | BAL

Orioles' Zach Eflin: Undergoes TJ surgery

Eflin underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Wednesday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

The Orioles moved Eflin to the 60-day injured list Tuesday after he received a second opinion on his injured elbow, and he'll now be out until midway through the 2027 campaign after going under the knife. The 32-year-old righty has made just 15 starts over the past two seasons, during which he's posted a 5.76 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 75 innings.

  • Taylor Ward LF | BAL

Orioles' Taylor Ward: Trio of two-baggers in win

Ward went 4-for-5 with three doubles, a run scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the White Sox.

The veteran outfielder is still looking for his first homer as a member of the Orioles, but he's been doing plenty of damage nonetheless. Through 12 games to begin the season, Ward is slashing .383/.464/.574 with an astounding nine doubles, five runs and eight RBI with an 8:11 BB:K.

  • Miles Mikolas SP | WAS

Nationals' Miles Mikolas: Losing ways continue

Mikolas (0-3) took the loss Wednesday against the Cardinals, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks in three innings. He struck out three.

Facing his former club, Mikolas didn't last very long to add to his woes in the early going. The veteran right-hander had coughed up a staggering 15 runs across his first 9.1 innings prior to Wednesday, and the Nationals decided that they'd seen enough following just 55 pitches from Mikolas on Wednesday. A relatively manageable assignment against the Pirates awaits Mikolas for his next start, but his 12.41 ERA, 2.35 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB make him a fantasy option to avoid until he gains some form of traction.

  • Rico Garcia RP | BAL

Orioles' Rico Garcia: Secures first career save

Garcia walked two and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his first career save in a 5-3 win over the White Sox.

With Ryan Helsley having pitched Monday and Tuesday, the Orioles closer was given a breather while other members of the bullpen stepped up. After Grant Wolfram handled the seventh and Anthony Nunez the eighth, Garcia got the call in the ninth and managed to get the job done despite throwing only 10 of his 22 pitches for strikes. Garcia is establishing himself as a high-leverage option for manager Craig Albernaz, producing a win, two holds and a save in his first six appearances with a 0.53 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB in 5.2 scoreless and hitless innings.

  • Cardinals' Michael McGreevy: Six innings of one-run ball in win

McGreevy (1-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Nationals, allowing one run on four hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out one.

McGreevy hardly boasted dominant stuff -- he posted just five whiffs en route fanning a lone batter -- but he kept the Washington bats guessing all afternoon. The right-hander induced a whopping 11 groundouts, also scattering four singles for his second start of the year of six innings with one run or fewer allowed. McGreevey owns a promising 2.16 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 10:2 K:BB across 16.2 innings, and he has a fairly soft matchup against Cleveland slated for his next outing.

  • Kyle Bradish SP | BAL

Orioles' Kyle Bradish: Fans seven in first win

Bradish (1-2) picked up the win Wednesday, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks over five innings in a 5-3 victory over the White Sox. He struck out seven.

After two straight losses to begin the campaign, Bradish righted the ship somewhat, although it was still a bumpy performance. The right-hander tossed just 54 of his 96 pitches for strikes and committed two errors in the field, leaving the mound with the O's down 3-2 only to see his team take the lead for good in the top of the sixth. Bradish will carry a 5.27 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB through 13.2 innings into his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Diamondbacks.

  • Giants' Rafael Devers: Busts out for season-high four RBI

Devers went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI in Wednesday's win over the Phillies.

It was a breakout performance by Devers, who entered the day with just two RBI on the campaign. The homer was his second of the year so far, and the All-Star slugger tied a season high in total bases. Devers is working his way through a slow start, which has seen him bat just .220 with three extra-base hits and four walks over 50 at-bats.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | SF

Giants' Tyler Mahle: Rebounds in scoreless start

Mahle took a no-decision Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing no runs on three hits and four walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

Mahle scattered three singles in what was an impressive bounce-back start versus a potent Philadelphia lineup. The right-hander had given up seven runs over his first nine innings before Wednesday's performance, though the Phillies did make the hurler work while drawing four walks on the afternoon. Mahle's 4.30 ERA through 14.2 innings still has room for improvement, and he'll also carry a shaky 1.57 WHIP into an unfavorable setting his next out at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park versus the Reds.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Quality start in first loss

Nola (1-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Giants, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out three.

After keeping the Rockies quiet for just one run in his last start, Nola was hit a bit harder Wednesday. The right-hander had been cruising through five shutout frames but was ultimately tagged for three extra-base hits, and most of the damage to his ledger came courtesy of a three-run homer by Rafael Devers in the sixth inning. Nola has a quality 3.63 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB through 17.1 frames, which he'll be looking to build on in next week's scheduled outing against the Cubs.
