The Reds announced that Steer was removed from Sunday's game against the Cardinals in the fifth inning due to right wrist pain.

Steer went 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts before being pulled midway through his fifth-inning at-bat due to the wrist issue. Edwin Arroyo came off the bench to replace Steer, who is likely being viewed as day-to-day until he undergoes a more thorough evaluation.

Lowe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

The left-handed-hitting Lowe will take a seat for the third straight game and for the second straight matchup versus a left-handed starter (Carson Whisenhunt). Though he appeared to have a grasp on the primary left-field job, Lowe may have moved into more of a committee with Wade Meckler and Jose Siri after falling into a 5-for-32 (.156 average) skid at the plate over his last 11 games.

Susac is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.

After starting in the Giants' previous two contests, Susac will head to the bench for the series finale while Drew Cavanaugh gets the nod behind the plate. Susac and Cavanaugh are likely to continue sharing most of the playing time at catcher, with Jesus Rodriguez seeing occasional reps as a third option at the position.

The Mariners optioned Davila to Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.

Davila allowed a run over 1.1 innings during Saturday's game against the Rangers and will now head to Triple-A in favor of a fresh bullpen arm. The 27-year-old rookie has a 3.57 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 22.2 innings this year, though his 9:11 K:BB paints a less-encouraging outlook of his performance.

Cavanaugh (illness) will start at catcher and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Angels.

Daniel Susac started behind the plate in the first two contests of the series, after Cavanaugh was scratched ahead of Friday's 7-6 win due to an illness. Cavanaugh felt well enough to make a pinch-hitting appearance in Saturday's 9-2 win, and he'll now draw back into the starting nine while Susac rests for the series finale.

The Mariners recalled Hoppe from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday.

The rookie right-hander has spent the past month in the minors but will rejoin the Mariners ahead of Sunday's series finale at Texas. Hoppe has a 6.38 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB across 24 innings in the majors this year.

The Astros optioned Teng to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Teng was activated from the injured list in mid-July after missing a few weeks due to a knee sprain, but Houston elected to demote him after just two appearances, during which he gave up two runs on three hits with a 4:2 K:BB and four hit batsmen across 4.1 innings. The right-hander pitched to a 2.19 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 8.8 K/9 through his first 17 outings of the year, but he has a 6.89 ERA across his past eight appearances (31.1 innings).

Messick (8-6) took the loss Sunday against the Rays, allowing a run on six hits and no walks over 7.2 innings. He struck out six.

Messick was excellent Sunday, holding the Rays to a lone run on a Cedric Mullins squeeze bunt, though that proved enough to stick the left-hander with the loss as the Guardians were stymied by Drew Rasmussen in an eventual 1-0 defeat. Messick has held opponents to a lone earned run in each of his last four starts, lowering his ERA to 2.59 with a 1.04 WHIP and 122:36 K:BB across 21 outings (125.1 innings) this season. He's currently slated to face the Diamondbacks at home his next time out.

Steer was unable to continue his at-bat in the top of the fifth after his hand seemed to be bothering him when he fouled off a pitch. Edwin Arroyo came on to pinch hit for Steer, who can be viewed as day-to-day heading into Monday's game against the Guardians until the Reds provide an update on his condition.

Baker earned the save in Sunday's 1-0 victory over the Guardians, tallying a strikeout and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning.

Baker is up to 28 saves (in 31 chances) this season, good for the second most in the majors. The right-hander has been stellar of late, allowing just one run in his last 22 innings. Baker's ERA now sits at a sparkling 1.56 across 40.1 innings this season with a 0.84 WHIP and 43:13 K:BB.
