The Padres reinstated Perez from the paternity list Saturday.

After spending the maximum of three days away from the team following the birth of his child, Perez will now report back to the Padres a day ahead of his upcoming start Sunday versus San Francisco. Tom Cosgrove was optioned back to Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move.

The Diamondbacks placed Nelson on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right shoulder inflammation, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Nelson surrendered five earned runs over just 4.2 innings during his most recent outing Sunday, and his shoulder troubles may help explain his poor performance. The Diamondbacks are hopeful he'll be able to return to the rotation after a minimum-length stay on the injured list, though he won't be eligible for activation until the final series of the regular season. Until Nelson is back in the fold, Arizona will likely move Jordan Montgomery from the bullpen back into the rotation.

Manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that Glasnow has a sprained right elbow and is unlikely to return this season, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

The news of Glasnow's sprain comes as somewhat of a surprise, considering Roberts previously said that initial scans on the right-hander's elbow were "promising." Glasnow will be shut down from throwing for the time being, and although he hasn't officially been ruled out for the season yet, it's likely that the only way he pitches again in 2024 is if the Dodgers make a deep postseason run. Glasnow tossed a career-high 134 innings over his 22 starts this season, going 9-6 with a 3.49 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 168:35 K:BB across 134 innings.

President of baseball operations David Stearns said Saturday that Blackburn has a spinal fluid leak in his back, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

The Mets aren't sure exactly how Blackburn suffered the injury, but the team is shutting him down for the time being. Stearns noted that the right-hander's injury isn't expected to be a long-term issue, though there's no telling how long he will be held out.

The Phillies recalled Allard from Triple-A Lehigh Valley ahead of his start Saturday against the Mets.

Through four appearances (three starts) in the majors this season, Allard has posted a 3.50 ERA and 1.33 WHIP across 18 innings, and he'll now be asked to fill the fifth spot in Philadelphia's rotation following the departure of Seth Johnson from the active roster earlier this week. The 27-year-old Allard will match up against a Mets offense that owns the 10th-best OPS in the majors.

Aldegheri (1-2) took the loss Friday as the Angels fell 5-3 to the Astros, giving up four runs on six hits and five walks over two-plus innings. He failed to strike out a batter.

After recording his first career win and first quality start in his last outing, Aldegheri crashed back to Earth with a thud. The southpaw threw only 26 of 53 pitches for strikes before getting the hook, and when he did get the ball over the plate it was hit hard -- two-run homer from Alex Bregman helped chase Aldegheri from the game in the third inning. The Angels are essentially holding auditions for their 2025 rotation over the final weeks, so the 22-year-old will keep his spot, but he isn't building a strong case. Aldegheri will take a 4.85 ERA and 10:10 K:BB through his first 13 big-league innings into his next start, which is scheduled to be a rematch with the Astros back in Houston next week.

Kikuchi (9-9) picked up the win Friday, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks over seven innings in a 5-3 victory over the Angels. He struck out six.

The lefty is now 5-0 over eight starts with the Astros with a 3.19 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 59:12 K:BB through 48 innings, and he's proven to be one of the most astute acquisitions any team made at this year's trade deadline. Kikuchi's quality start Friday was his 10th of the season, and he'll look to stay locked in when he gets a rematch with the Angels back in Houston next week.

Gomber came away with a no-decision in Friday's 9-5 win over the Cubs, allowing two runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four.

The southpaw produced his third straight quality start and 12th of the season, tying the career high he set in 2023, but Gomber saw his sixth win of the year slip away when the Colorado bullpen coughed up the lead in the top of the eighth inning. The 30-year-old has been sharp since the beginning of August, delivering six QS in eight trips to the mound while posting a 3.67 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 34:10 K:BB through 49 innings. Gomber will look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Diamondbacks.

Assad came away with a no-decision in Friday's 9-5 loss to the Rockies, giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out five.

The big blow off Assad came in the second inning when Hunter Goodman launched a two-run homer, but the right-hander otherwise minimized the damage and got taken off the hook for the loss when the Cubs tied the game in the top of the eighth. Assad hadn't been tagged with more than three runs in an outing since June 23, and over his last 10 starts he sports a 3.27 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 37:24 K:BB through 52.1 innings. He'll look for a better result in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home next week against the A's.

Ober (12-7) took the loss Friday as the Twins fell 8-4 to the Reds, coughing up five runs on six hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out six.

The righty pitched well through six innings as the two teams battled to a 1-1 stalemate, but the wheels came off for Ober in the seventh as the first four Cincinnati batters reached base, starting with a Spencer Steer leadoff triple. Ober has gone six straight starts without recording a win, stumbling to a 5.35 ERA over that stretch despite a 1.07 WHIP and 31:10 K:BB through 33.2 innings. He'll try to reverse his fortunes in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Cleveland.
