  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

White Sox's Jose Quintana: Earns win over Tigers on Thursday

Quintana gave up three runs on eight hits (including two homers) and one walk while striking out three over 7.1 innings in a win over the Tigers on Thursday.

The White Sox jumped out to a 6-1 lead after two innings and Quintana cruised from there, retiring 15 of 17 batters at one point before running into a little trouble in his final two frames. He needed only 93 pitches to complete the 7.1 innings. Quintana has now earned wins in four straight decisions and has pushed his record back above .500 for the first time since the end of May.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Rays' Drew Smyly: Allows late homer to ruin great outing

Smyly (3-11) pitched seven quality innings, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out 10 in Thursday's no-decision against the Royals.

After a rough first half of 2016, Smyly appears to be getting back on track post All-Star break. He's now notched three straight quality starts for the first time since April, and his 5.14 ERA -- albeit still not pretty - is down to its lowest mark since June 20. The southpaw has been plagued by a terrible 1.7 HR/9, and his career-high 23rd home run allowed wasted an otherwise outstanding performance on Thursday. Smyly will make his next start Tuesday at the hitter-friendly Rogers Centre in Toronto.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Indians' Mike Clevinger: Helps team end skid in return to rotation Thursday

Clevinger (0-1) pitched 4.1 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three in a no-decision versus the Twins on Thursday afternoon.

Clevinger returned to the rotation Thursday due to an elbow injury to Danny Salazar. Although Clevinger wasn't overly impressive, at least he was the team's only starter to complete four innings during the four-game series with the Twins. More importantly, he got the job done over his 93-pitch outing to help his team end a three-game skid. In four starts this season, Clevinger has given up 16 runs on 23 hits over 18.2 innings. He pitched well in the minors when he was optioned to Triple-A Columbus after a trio of bad outings to start the season, but Clevinger hasn't done anything at the big league level to earn much trust in the fantasy world. The right-hander is slated to start again Wednesday against the Nationals.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Yankees' Luis Severino: Will start Tuesday against Boston

Severino will slide back into the rotation, getting the start Tuesday against the Red Sox, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.

Severino came in for a lengthy relief role against the Mets on Thursday, and allowed just one unearned run on one hit during 4.1 innings of work. The 22-year-old struck out five batters and walked just one, and appears to have gotten his original spot back in the rotation that he occupied at the beginning of the season. Severino recently came back to the Yankees after spending some time with Triple-A Durham, posting a 7-1 record with a 3.11 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP over the course of 11 starts. He will face a strong Boston lineup Tuesday, and is in line to face Tampa Bay the following Sunday.

  • Royals' Nolan Watson: Continues to struggle

Watson has struggled with a 7.88 ERA over 75.1 innings this season at Low-A Lexington.

After getting taken by the Royals in 2015 with the 33rd overall pick, Watson has yet to show positive signs of improvement. His 5.6 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9 have also been disappointing, to go along with that high ERA.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Yankees' Luis Severino: Candidate to join rotation?

Severino seems like a logical candidate to join the Yankees' rotation with Chad Green optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Yankees seemed intent on keeping Severino in the bullpen for the time being, but the 22-year-old may very well have forced their hand with his outstanding performance in relief of Green on Wednesday. Severino allowed just one unearned run on one hit, walking one batter and striking out five, over 4.1 innings Wednesday (60 pitches). When asked about the possibility of Severino rejoining the rotation after the game, manager Joe Girardi told Newsday, "Obviously that's going to be talked about a lot. He looked really good tonight." Severino would be in line for a two-step right away if he were to get the call to the rotation, with matchups at Boston and against Tampa Bay.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Indians' Mike Clevinger: Called up to start Thursday

Clevinger was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

Two days ago, Clevinger was confirmed as Thursday's starter, and this roster move makes it official. Despite struggling to the tune of a 7.71 ERA over four MLB appearances this season, his minor league numbers have been solid, as the right-hander owns a 3.00 ERA to complement an 11-1 record through 17 starts. He'll take on a Twins squad that's been hot at the plate lately, as the team owns a league-leading .362 wOBA over the last 30 days.

  • Rays' Jake Odorizzi: Three straight scoreless starts

Odorizzi (6-5) shut the Royals out for six innings Wednesday, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out six in a winning effort.

That's three straight scoreless outings for Odorizzi, and he's lasted at least six frames every time. He's had a disappointing 2016, regressing instead of building on last year's numbers, but if Odorizzi can maintain the strong control he's shown lately and regain the homer-prevention ability he's shown through much of his career, he should have nowhere to go but up. Nonetheless, his upcoming date with the division-rival Jays on Monday doesn't present an appetizing matchup.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Doomed by slow start in Wednesday's contest

Hamels (12-3) pitched seven innings, allowing three runs, four hits and four walks while striking out six Orioles in Wednesday's loss.

Entering the game, Hamels was 7-1 in his previous 11 starts and 3-0 with a 0.84 ERA since the All-Star break. On Wednesday, the lefty showed that he's still locked in at that high level, but just lost focus in one costly inning. Hamels yielded three runs and three hits in a rocky first inning, then retired 13 of the next 14 batters without allowing a hit. Surprisingly, Orioles starter Kevin Gausman, who entered the game with just two victories, outdueled Hamels in this one. Despite his hot arm, owners may want to use caution before deploying Hamels in his next start Monday at Coors Field.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Orioles' Kevin Gausman: Hitting stride with another quality-start victory Wednesday

Gausman (3-8) pitched seven innings, allowing two runs, seven hits and one walk while striking out seven Rangers in Wednesday's win.

Gausman has tallied five quality starts in his last seven outings, and earned the win in three of those five. The 25-year-old right-hander has made it to his most successful part of the season. In his three previous MLB seasons, Gausman posted a 4.74 ERA prior to the All-Star break, and a 3.92 mark post Midsummer Classic. Almost all of his career numbers suggest he is about to hit stride as we near the fantasy playoffs. Gausman's next start will come Monday in Oakland.
