  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Rangers' Martin Perez: Rocked for seven runs vs. Yankees

Perez (2-5) allowed seven runs on 11 hits while striking out two across five innings as he was saddled with the loss Sunday against New York.

Perez gave up just one run through his first four innings of work, but he appeared to run out of gas in the fifth when the Yankees plated five runs. The 27-year-old lefty had allowed five runs over his previous three appearances heading into Sunday's series finale, so he certainly didn't have his best stuff in his latest performance. Perez has accrued an alarming 6.71 ERA and 1.96 WHIP with 35 strikeouts over 57.2 frames in 2018, though he'll remain in the rotation moving forward.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Orioles' Alex Cobb: Saddled with tough-luck loss

Cobb (3-15) allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while fanning seven as he took the loss Sunday against Boston.

Cobb surrendered his lone earned run in the first inning on a Steve Pearce solo homer, but he'd leave the game down 2-0. Cobb has pitched well over his previous three starts, giving up just three earned runs and striking out 16 over 20 innings, although he has only one win to show for it. He'll search for more run support in his next outing, which figures to be another tough matchup against Cleveland on Sunday.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Astros' Dallas Keuchel: Whiffs five in no-decision

Keuchel threw seven innings Sunday, yielding two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk in the 4-3 loss to Seattle. He struck out five and allowed a homer in the no-decision.

Keuchel has allowed just one run over each of his two outings, dropping his season ERA to a cool 3.43 in 155 innings. He had Seattle's number for most of the afternoon, allowing just a solo shot to Mike Zunino and an RBI single to Ryon Healy. Keuchel will look for his 10th win in Oakland next Sunday.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matt Boyd: Allows two hits, snags win against Twins

Boyd (7-10) pitched six innings of one-run ball to record the win Sunday against the Twins. He allowed just two hits and a walk, while striking out three.

The only damage against Boyd came on a sac fly in the second inning. Outside of that, the lefty was on cruise control, working through his six innings on just 88 pitches. Boyd has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five outings, lowering his season ERA to 4.20 in the process. He lines up to face the Twins again in his next start, which is scheduled for Friday.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Electric in return

Sale (12-4) allowed one hit and struck out 12 over five scoreless innings to pick up the win in Sunday's 4-1 victory over Baltimore.

Sale was making his return from the disabled list after rehabbing a mild case of shoulder inflammation, and it didn't look like he missed a beat. The left-hander extended his scoreless streak to 28 innings. It was odd that he was pulled after five innings and 68 pitches, particularly after Boston's bullpen was needed for 15.2 innings over the last two days, but manager Alex Cora told reporters in his post-game remarks that Sale was on a 75-pitch ceiling. Sale's pitch count should increase the next time he takes the mound Sunday at home against the Rays.

  • Astros' Forrest Whitley: Return from DL tabbed for Tuesday

Whitley (oblique) is scheduled to start for Double-A Corpus Christi on Tuesday, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic Houston reports.

Whitley last pitched July 5, but exited that start early due to an oblique injury. Barring any extraneous circumstances, he'll make his return to game action Tuesday after a little over a month of missed action. In 21 innings for the Hooks this season, the top pitching prospect has a 4.29 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP and a 30:8 K:BB.

  • Cole Ragans RP | KC

Rangers' Cole Ragans: Nearing return to throwing

Ragans (elbow) is expected to resume throwing next week for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Ragans underwent Tommy John surgery in late March, meaning he'll be tossing the ball for the first time approximately five months after the procedure. It seems like everything is on schedule in his rehab process so far, so look for him to make a full return to the mound sometime during the 2019 season.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman: Good to start Sunday

Stroman will start Sunday's game as scheduled.

The young hurler left his previous start due to a right middle finger blister, but it seems like the issue is behind him at this point. Stroman holds a disappointing 5.20 ERA and 72:33 K:BB in 91.2 frames this season. He'll take on Tyler Glasnow and the Tampa Bay Rays as he looks to improve in the series finale Sunday.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Returns from DL on Sunday

Sale (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day disabled list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday.

The dominant southpaw wound up missing just under two weeks due to a bout of shoulder inflammation. Sale is in the midst of another excellent year, producing a 2.04 ERA and a 13.2 K/9 in 141 frames. He'll make his inaugural start off the DL against Alex Cobb and the last-place Orioles. Brandon Workman was sent back to Triple-A Pawtucket in a corresponding move.

  • Michael Kopech SP | LAD

White Sox's Michael Kopech: Hurls seven scoreless

Kopech pitched seven scoreless innings and didn't walk a batter while striking out nine Saturday for Triple-A Charlotte.

This was the third time in the last four starts that Kopech hasn't issued a free pass. Going back further, the right-hander has walked just four over his last six starts, spanning 38 innings. Command of his fastball, leading to a high walk rate, has been one major reason cited for keeping Kopech in the minors, but this most recent stretch suggests the time is right to bring him up to Chicago.
