  • Brad Keller RP | PHI

Royals' Brad Keller: Surrenders four in no-decision

Keller allowed four runs on four hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings Monday against Pittsburgh. He didn't factor into the decision.

Keller gave up a run in the third, a pair in the fourth and one in the seventh prior to exiting with a one-run lead. He tossed 71 of 109 pitches for strikes. The 23-year-old had been on a roll prior to Monday's outing, as he'd surrendered two or fewer runs in his previous six starts (1.85 ERA with 29 punchouts over 39 frames). He'll look to get back on track Saturday in Detroit.

  • James Paxton SP | BOS

Mariners' James Paxton: Back with Mariners

Paxton (illness) joined the Mariners on Monday, though he remains without a return date, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

Paxton is apparently still feeling the after effects from the flu/pneumonia combination he's been dealing with recently. The southpaw is hoping to throw a bullpen session in the coming days, after which a potential timetable for his return could emerge. Barring any setbacks, Paxton could rejoin the rotation over the weekend against the Rangers.

  • Gerrit Cole SP | NYY

Astros' Gerrit Cole: Start pushed to Friday

Cole is scheduled to start Friday against the Angels, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports.

Cole was originally lined up to pitch Tuesday against the Mariners, but it appears the Astros want to give the right-hander a few extra days of rest before his next start in order to keep him fresh for the playoffs. Josh James will take his spot in the rotation Tuesday.

  • Shane Bieber SP | TOR

Indians' Shane Bieber: Allows five runs in loss to Tigers

Bieber (10-4) allowed five runs on nine hits with no walks across six innings to take the loss Sunday against the Tigers. He struck out four.

Bieber allowed just a sacrifice fly through the first four frames before running into trouble in the fifth, when he gave up a run-scoring single before Jim Adduci launched a three-run home run to left. He threw an impressive 74 percent of his pitches for strikes and induced nine groundball outs, but the rough inning was enough to give him his fourth loss of the season. Bieber was coming off back-to-back quality starts and will look to get back on track this weekend against the Red Sox.

  • Rangers' Jeffrey Springs: Gets save chance Sunday

Springs entered Sunday's game in the ninth inning with a 3-2 lead and promptly blew the save opportunity. He allowed five runs on three hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning in a 7-3 loss to the Padres.

Springs was given the save chance because Jose Leclerc was unavailable after throwing 38 pitches in consecutive appearances Friday and Saturday. Springs has little experience in a closing role, but the 26-year-old left-hander earned a reputation as a reliable arm out of the bullpen since making his major-league debut in late July. Prior to Sunday's dumpster-fire, he had a 1.82 ERA in 13 appearances and hadn't allowed an earned run since Aug. 20.

  • Marco Gonzales RP | TEX

Mariners' Marco Gonzales: Strikes out six in five innings

Gonzales threw five innings in a no-decision against the Angels on Sunday, giving up three earned runs on six hits, striking out six and walking two in Seattle's eventual 4-3 defeat.

The young left-hander had been in a rough patch for much of August, but he's posted decent stat lines his last two starts and has a 4.28 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP through 155.2 innings on the season. He threw 84 pitches in this contest, and the Mariners have said they don't plan on letting him throw more than 100 for the rest of the season. They're monitoring his workload in his first full season since he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2016, so this is probably about as deep into a game as he should be expected to work for the duration of the season.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

Yankees' Lance Lynn: Fans seven in no-decision

Lynn allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out seven over five innings Sunday against Toronto. He didn't factor into the decision.

Lynn gave up his lone run in the third inning, and while he'd depart the game with a one-run lead, the Blue Jays would plate a pair in the eighth to take the series finale. Despite a decent performance, he's struggled with his consistency of late, owning a 2-2 record with a 4.49 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 46.1 frames since joining the Yankees from the Twins prior to the trade deadline. Lynn will likely remain in the starting rotation following Sunday's outing.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Works three scoreless frames vs. Mets

Sale tossed three shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out one in Sunday's win over New York. He didn't factor into the decision.

Sale managed to throw multiple innings for the first time since suffering a shoulder issue. He tossed 27 of 42 pitches for strikes and looked sharp. The 29-year-old stated after the game that if he remains on schedule, he should be built up to around 100 pitches for the beginning of the postseason, per Christopher Smith of MassLive.com. Sale's next outing figures to come Saturday against Cleveland barring a setback.

  • White Sox's Lucas Giolito: Tabbed with loss vs. O's

Giolito (10-11) allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out one through six innings, taking the loss Sunday against the Orioles.

Giolito got hit hard early in his outing, surrendering five first-inning runs and then another in the fourth. He'd exit the game with a two-run lead after tossing 61 of 98 pitches for strikes. Through 30 starts in 2018, the 24-year-old has struggled to a 5.77 ERA with a 118:83 K:BB over 165.1 innings. Giolito will search for a better outcome in his next appearance Saturday against the Cubs.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Twins' Kyle Gibson: Earns win despite rough outing

Gibson (8-13) pitched 6.2 innings and was awarded the win Sunday, allowing five runs on 11 hits (one home run) while striking out six in the 9-6 victory over the Royals.

Gibson had lost his last two outings despite allowing just three runs in 12.2 combined innings. Oddly enough, he earned his first win since Aug. 17 after allowing five runs on Sunday. He coughed up two runs in the first inning and was later tagged for a two-run shot in the fifth by Adalberto Mondesi. Gibson will carry a 3.78 ERA into Saturday's start in Oakland.
