  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

Yankees' Lance Lynn: Earns 10th win Saturday

Lynn (10-10) struck out four and was credited with the win in the Yankees' 8-5 victory over the Red Sox on Saturday after pitching three innings and allowing one run on two hits and one walk.

Lynn was called upon in a tie game in the top of the third inning, and earned the win even though he was nicked for one run on an Andrew Benintendi single in the fourth. The 31-year old has been steadier in his last four appearances, allowing five runs on 15 hits and four walks over 19 innings. Lynn holds a 4.77 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and a 161:76 K:BB this season.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Yankees' Luis Severino: No longer starting Sunday's game

Severino will not start Sunday's season finale against the Red Sox but may be available out of the bullpen, Joel Sherman of The New York Post reports.

Manager Aaron Boone said the AL Wild Card game starter for Wednesday's contest against the Athletics has yet to be decided, so this decision makes it a possibility that Severino could wind up being the starter. On the other hand, this will potentially provide the right-hander with a little experience out of the bullpen, where he could be made available during Wednesday's game with all hands on deck. Boone added that there should be an answer prior to Sunday's game. At the moment, the Yankees have yet to name a starter in Severino's place for the season finale.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

Yankees' Lance Lynn: Scratched from Saturday's start

Lynn will no longer start Saturday's game against the Red Sox but is expected to be available out of the bullpen, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Friday's victory assured the Yankees of home field during the AL Wild Card game against Oakland, so manager Aaron Boone has elected to transition Lynn to a relief role, which is where he is expected to be utilized in October. In his place, Domingo German will start Saturday's game, though he will likely only last a few innings. Look for Lynn to take over following German's exit.

  • Domingo German SP | PIT

Yankees' Domingo German: Starts vs. Boston on Saturday

German will take the mound for Saturday's start against the Red Sox, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Lance Lynn was initially scheduled to start, but manager Aaron Boone elected to switch things around after the club clinched home field for next week's AL Wild Card game due to Friday's victory. This will mark German's first start for the big-league team since July 20. Across 20 appearances (13 starts) with the Yankees this year, he's posted a 5.55 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. Since he hasn't pitched more than three innings in any appearance since that start in July, don't expect German to last anything more than a few frames.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Red Sox's Chris Sale: Is rusty, not injured

Manager Alex Cora attributed Sale's subpar start Wednesday to mechanics, not the shoulder inflammation that kept him out for more than a month, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.

Sale allowed three runs on four hits and hit two batters Wednesday, needing 92 pitches to complete 4.2 innings. He admitted afterwards that his mechanics were off, with Cora pinpointing Sale's extension and arm angle. Sale will throw on the side in an attempt to rediscover his form heading into his Game 1 start in the division series next Friday.

  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Rays' Tyler Glasnow: Fans nine in no-decision

Glasnow struck out nine but didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays, giving up three runs on seven hits and three walks over 5.1 innings.

The former Pirate closes out the season with a 4.20 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 64:19 K:BB in 55.2 innings since he was acquired by the Rays. Glasnow still has some things to work on -- his 1.6 HR/9 in Tampa is less than ideal -- but the 25-year-old's strikeout potential should have him locked into the No. 2 spot in the rotation behind Blake Snell heading into next spring.

  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Rangers' Martin Perez: Walks five in loss

Perez (2-7) got the loss against the Mariners on Friday, giving up five runs (two earned) on one hit over just 1.2 innings, striking out two and walking five in a 12-6 loss for Texas.

Perez just couldn't find the strike zone in this one, as he issued five free passes and threw 55 pitches before finding himself unable to make it out of the second inning. It's been tough sledding on the whole for the left-hander in 2018, as this blowup brought his ERA up to a bloated 6.22 and his WHIP up to 1.78 over 85.1 innings.

  • Gerrit Cole SP | NYY

Astros' Gerrit Cole: Delivers quality start in no-decision

Cole (15-5) hurled a quality start in Friday's win over the Orioles despite not factoring into the decision. He went six innings and gave up one run on five hits and a walk while striking out four.

It was another solid outing for Cole, who lowered his ERA to 2.88 and his WHIP to 1.03 while extending his career-high strikeout total to 276. Cole wrapped up what's been an outstanding season in style with his 20th quality start of the year.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

Indians' Mike Clevinger: Throws strong outing Friday

Clevinger (13-8) earned the win against the Royals on Friday, allowing one earned run, three hits and no walks over 6.2 innings while striking out five.

Clevinger was in command for most of the night, and he was pulled in the seventh inning after allowing a two-out double to Ryan O'Hearn, who eventually came around to score. It took Clevinger 101 pitches to get through 6.2 innings, and he was able to reach 200 innings pitched on the season with Friday's solid outing. Assuming Friday's start was his last appearance of 2018, Clevinger will finish the season with an impressive 3.02 ERA and a 207:67 K:BB ratio over 200 innings.

  • White Sox's Lucas Giolito: Chased early in loss

Giolito (10-13) took the loss in Game 2 of the doubleheader against the Twins on Friday, allowing seven earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two over 1.1 innings.

Giolito couldn't prevent the damage once again, as he's now allowed at least four earned runs in four of his previous five starts. Friday's loss was likely his final appearance of the season, and Giolito owns a disappointing stat line after the 2018 campaign with a 6.13 ERA (5.47 xFIP) and a 125:90 K:BB ratio over 173.1 innings.
