Gray's pectoral soreness has improved and he played catch Wednesday, but manager Rocco Baldelli said the right-hander could still end up on the injured list, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Gray's progress since exiting Sunday's start indicates the injury isn't a serious concern, but the Twins may need to free up a roster spot given there's still some question marks with his availability a few days later. The 32-year-old may avoid the injured list if he shows significant improvement over the next couple days; however, Baldelli also said Minnesota "may end up having to make a decision that we don't really want to make in order to function better as a team."

Keller (1-6) took the loss Wednesday versus the Guardians. He allowed four runs on six hits and three walks with one strikeout in six innings.

Keller allowed a run in each of the third through sixth innings, while the Royals' offense was limited to just seven singles and a pair of walks in the contest. With four or more runs allowed in four of his last five starts, Keller's hot start to the season is becoming an increasingly distant memory. He's now at a 4.15 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 33:18 K:BB across 60.2 innings in 10 starts. The 26-year-old right-hander is projected to make his next start at home versus the Blue Jays next week.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Wednesday that Wentz will undergo further testing on his injured shoulder, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

The Tigers classified Wentz's injury as a left shoulder strain when he exited his start in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Twins after tossing four scoreless frames, but the upcoming checkup should provide more information with regard to a possible recovery timeline for the 24-year-old. Detroit had already optioned Wentz to Triple-A Toledo following Tuesday's outing, so he could be placed on the affiliate's 7-day injured list in the coming days.

Velasquez will start Friday's game against the Rays in Tampa Bay, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Velasquez shifted to the bullpen last week after he turned in an unsightly 5.79 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in his first seven starts of the season, but the White Sox determined he was a better option at the back end of the rotation than Dallas Keuchel, who was recently designated for assignment and released. Lance Lynn (knee) initiated a rehab assignment last weekend and may only need a couple more starts in the minors before he's ready to return from the 60-day injured list and make his season debut, so Velasquez likely won't be in store for a long-term appointment in the rotation if the team's other four starters stay healthy over the next two weeks.

Gausman (5-3) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk over five innings in a 6-5 victory over the White Sox. He struck out five.

The right-hander left the game after 98 pitches (67 strikes) with the Blue Jays down 3-2, but a four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth put Gausman back in the win column. He's proving his 2021 breakout with San Francisco was no fluke, posting a 2.51 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 70:6 K:BB through 61 innings this season.

Giolito (3-2) allowed six earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out eight across 4.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Giolito surrendered a pair of home runs to Alejandro Kirk, which accounted for four of his six earned runs. He allowed an additional three extra-base hits and turned in his worst outing of the season. Though there weren't many positives, Giolito did induce 14 swinging strikes across 99 pitches, and he has struck out at least seven batters in six of his eight starts. Overall, he has a 3.61 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and a 59:17 K:BB across 42.1 frames on the campaign.

Gambrell has not yet pitched in 2022 due to an ankle injury, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Gambrell is still in Fort Myers rehabbing the injury. The 24-year-old righty was one of the players to be named later in the Andrew Benintendi trade. At the time of his acquisition, Boston general manager Chaim Bloom described Gambrell as a potential workhorse in either a starting or relief capacity who has a power arsenal with two different fastballs, a breaking ball and a changeup.

Lynch (2-4) took the loss Tuesday at Cleveland after giving up six runs on nine hits with three walks and two strikeouts over four innings.

Lynch immediately ran into trouble Tuesday as the Guardians struck for three runs in the opening frame, and Austin Hedges delivered the critical blow during the third inning with a three-run homer. The 25-year-old entered the contest with a 2.91 ERA over his previous seven starts, but he was unable to contain the Cleveland offense.

Quantrill (2-3) earned the win Tuesday against the Royals after giving up three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and zero walks over 6.1 innings.

The right-hander limited Kansas City to two runs through six innings, but he was pulled with one out in the seventh after a HBP and a single, and another run came around to score after his exit. It was the third straight quality start for Quantrill, though it's his first win since Opening Day. He has a 3.52 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 33:19 K:BB across 53.2 innings this season.

Montas (2-5) allowed two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in seven innings against the Astros on Tuesday. He didn't walk a batter, and he took the loss.

Montas was strong in this contest, but Chas McCormick tagged him for an RBI single and a solo home run. That was enough to send Montas to a hard-luck loss, his fourth in his last eight starts since his most recent win. The right-hander has now posted three games without issuing a walk, though one of those was an injury-shortened start. He's at a 3.20 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 71:15 K:BB through 64.2 innings. The 29-year-old is projected to face the Red Sox at home this weekend.
