Drew Pomeranz hits DL after emotions get best of him
Following his worst start of the season, Athletics pitcher Drew Pomeranz decided to take his frustration out on a chair in the clubhouse Monday. Unfortunately for Pomeranz, the chair got the best of the battle, as he was forced to the disabled list with a fractured right hand.
"I just let my emotions take over me, and I did something stupid," Pomeranz told MLB.com Tuesday. "Obviously, I didn't mean for it to happen. It sucks because I want to play, I want to pitch. I'm trying to win games and help the team out. Obviously, I'm not helping the team out when I do something stupid like that."
Pomeranz was tagged with eight runs in three-plus innings of work Monday, matching his total from the previous seven. Fortunately, the injury is on his non-pitching hand, so Pomeranz will still be able to throw while he recovers. There is no timetable at this point for his return.
"Hopefully, I'll be back as soon as possible," said Pomeranz. "This is the first time I've broken a bone, though, so I don't know."

Bass tossed a successful simulated game at the team's spring training complex Tuesday, according to the Houston Chronicle. General manager Jeff Luhnow said the team is trying to figure out what his next step will be, but it will likely be a rehab assignment beginning next week.
"Bass is going to go out on a rehab assignment soon," Luhnow said. “"t will be the first of the guys to come back. Hopefully that will go well so we can get him back before the end of the month."

Rubby De La Rosa relies on fastball to snap losing streak
After two straight losses, Red Sox starting pitcher Rubby De La Rosa bounced back Monday against Minnesota, allowing one hit over seven scoreless innings during a 1-0 victory. De La Rosa explained relying on his fastball led to snapping his two-game losing streak.
"Last couple outings, I didn’t throw my fastball a lot because I feel confident with my changeup, so I threw my changeup a lot," De La Rosa said, per WEEI.com. "They told me to throw my fastball because I have a good fastball. Throw fastballs and then the changeup behind that, nobody can hit that. They’re not prepared for that. That’s different. This time I tried to throw more fastballs."
Manager John Farrell was impressed with how De La Rosa was able to make the strategic change Monday.
"To be aware to what hitters did to him in his last two starts, in Baltimore and Detroit, and to go out and trust his fastball more, that set the tone," Farrell said. "I think if anything he should have gained some additional trust in that pitch, it’s 93-98 [miles per hour] and he’s got plenty to go to. Part of his learning curve is happening in front of our eyes."
