Daniel Mengden RP | KC
Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Suffers another tough defeat in third MLB start
Mengden (0-3) took another hard loss in Wednesday's game against the Brewers. He pitched six quality innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out nine.
Granted he's only made three MLB starts, but for the second straight start, Mengden set a new career high for strikeouts. He's been doomed by home runs in each of his starts, but he's displayed great command of his pitches by walking just two hitters in his last two outings after issuing four in his debut. Mengden will look for his first big league win in his next start on Monday in San Francisco.

Luke Jackson RP | SEA
Rangers' Luke Jackson: Recalled by Rangers
Jackson was recalled by the Rangers on Wednesday.
With Derek Holland landing on the disabled list Wednesday, the Rangers opted to recall Jackson to take his spot on the active roster. Jackson had his struggles during his stint with the big league club earlier in the season, recording a 7.04 ERA over 7.2 innings of work. He'll likely work out of the pen, but the Rangers will have to make a roster move in the coming days when they need a starter to take Holland's spot in the rotation, so this could be a short stint for Jackson.

Ashur Tolliver RP | SEA
Orioles' Ashur Tolliver: Recalled by Orioles on Wednesday
Tolliver was recalled by the Orioles on Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.
With veteran Brian Duensing (elbow) heading to the DL, the Orioles add another left-hander out of the pen with the promotion of Tolliver to the active roster. Tolliver was effective during his brief stint with the Orioles in late May except for a three-run meltdown against the Red Sox on May 30. He figures to pitch in the middle innings as a lefty specialist during his stint with Baltimore.

Edwin Diaz RP | LAD
Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Gets big strikeout to end threat
Diaz ended an eighth-inning, bases-loaded threat Tuesday with a four-pitch strikeout against the Tigers.
Diaz entered with runners in scoring position and two out, trailing 4-2. He hit his first batter, but then got out of the jam to keep the team within striking distance. It was a big moment for the 22-year-old, who is the organization's top pitching prospect. Diaz was converted from being a starter earlier this year because he never could develop an adequate third pitch to go with his high-90s fastball and power slider. Those two pitches should work in relief, though. He's shown promise in limited work since his early June callup, pitching eight innings (seven appearances) and allowing two runs with 12 strikeouts and three unintentional walks.

Stephen Gonsalves RP | LAD
Twins' Stephen Gonsalves: Promoted to Double-A
Gonsalves has been promoted to Double-A Chattanooga, Brice Zimmerman of the Fort Myers Miracle reports.
Gonsalves has been knocking on the door for a promotion since the year started. On the season at High-A, he owns a 2.33 ERA with 66 strikeouts and a 0.96 WHIP in 65.2 innings. Double-A will be a tough test for the left-hander who features a fastball, slider and change-up arsenal. Dynasty-league owners should start paying closer attention to his progression over the next few months now that Gonsalves is one step closer to a major league call-up.

Matt Andriese RP | MIA
Rays' Matt Andriese: Confirmed for a Saturday start against Orioles
Andriese has been confirmed as one of the starters in Saturday's doubleheader versus the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The 26-year-old right-hander had been a likely candidate for the spot start, and the matter was confirmed Tuesday. Andriese was a perfect 5-0 with a 2.82 ERA over seven starts earlier in the season before making his last two appearances out of the bullpen following Blake Snell's call-up.

Trevor May RP | ATH
Twins' Trevor May: Throws bullpen session
May (back) threw in the bullpen Tuesday and it went well, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
May will throw another bullpen session Friday and then could go out on a minor league rehab assignment.

Tyler Duffey RP | KC
Twins' Tyler Duffey: Could lose spot in rotation
Minnesota is considering replacing Duffey in the rotation before his next start, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "I'm probably not [ready] to finalize a decision on how his next his next turn is going to go as of yet," said Twins manager Paul Molitor.
Duffey has given up four or more runs in seven consecutive starts. It sounds like he could be sent to the minors before this weekend, though his replacement isn't clear.

Collin McHugh RP | ATL
Astros' Collin McHugh: Takes no-decision in quality start
McHugh (5-5) pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out six Tuesday against the Angels. He did not factor in the decision.
For the first time this season, McHugh has put together back-to-back quality starts. He need 111 pitches -- his second highest total of the season -- to lower his ERA to a season-best 4.70. McHugh has only won one of his last eight starts, but he's pitched well enough to win a handful of them. Despite his recent improvement, the 29-year-old seemingly has no chance to repeat many (if any) of the numbers from last season's breakout performance.

Hector Santiago RP | SEA
Angels' Hector Santiago: Makes second straight quality start
Santiago (4-4) pitched 6.1 quality innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking two and striking out four against the Astros on Tuesday. He was left with a no-decision against after a blown save in the bottom of the ninth by the team's closer Huston Street.
In his five starts from May 20 to June 10, the 28-year-old was hammered for 23 earned runs in just 17 innings. He's rebounded nicely since, giving up just two runs and five hits over his last two outings. Santiago's career struggles with control continue contributing to his inconsistency, and he's well off the pace needed to come close to last year's career-high strikeouts. On the bright side, the southpaw has now put together back-to-back quality starts for the first time since mid-April, and in the process, pushed his ERA back under five for the first time since May.
