  • Joe Palumbo RP | TEX

Rangers' Joe Palumbo: Reinstated and optioned to High-A

Palumbo (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list Monday and optioned to High-A Down East.

Palumbo had been with Down East while on a rehab assignment. He was pitching at the same level back in April 2017 when he was shut down for Tommy John surgery. The 910th-overall pick back in 2013, Palumbo has shown mid-rotation upside, with a mid-90s fastball and a potentially plus curveball.

  • Chad Green RP | TOR

Yankees' Chad Green: Implodes in relief appearance

Green was tagged for three runs on three hits and one walk over 1.2 innings and picked up the loss in relief Sunday against the Indians.

Green retired only five of the 10 batters he faced, needing 37 pitches to do so. The right-hander didn't display his usual command or control in the outing, yielding a home run, hitting a batter and tossing a wild pitch. Even after the disastrous appearance, Green still maintains a tidy 2.74 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 57:9 K:BB across 46 innings on the season.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Moves to 9-6 with win

Manaea (9-6) got the win against the Giants on Sunday, giving up two earned runs on five hits over six innings while striking out one and walking one in Oakland's 6-2 victory.

It was the fourth win in his last six starts for the left-hander, putting him one shy of double-digit victories heading into the All-Star break. He hasn't been posting gaudy strikeout numbers with 83 in 123.2 innings, but Manaea has shown to be a solid contributor in terms of ratios, as he has a 3.42 ERA and a sparkling 0.99 WHIP. He's also holding opponents to a .214 average so far this season.

  • Red Sox's Craig Kimbrel: Notches 30th save

Kimbrel picked up the save Sunday against the Blue Jays as he tossed a perfect inning while fanning two.

Kimbrel has dominated out of the closer role in 2018, as he sits with an outstanding 1.77 ERA and 0.89 WHIP with 62 strikeouts over 40.2 innings. Following Sunday's appearance, he's tossed 11.1 straight scoreless innings, with his last run allowed dating back to June 12 against Baltimore. Kimbrel figures to see plenty of save opportunities in the second half, as the Red Sox continue to put together an impressive season.

  • Miguel Castro RP | CHW

Orioles' Miguel Castro: Produces short outing

Castro surrendered four runs on one hit and three walks while striking out two across 2.2 innings Sunday against the Rangers. He didn't factor into the decision.

Castro got off to a rough start, as his lone hit allowed went for a grand slam in the first inning. The Orioles would rally in the third to get him off the hook for the loss. Castro is expected to be used in a relief role moving forward, as Baltimore approached Sunday's tilt as a bullpen game. The 23-year-old right-hander has posted a 3.54 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 36 strikeouts over 56 innings this season.

  • Twins' Fernando Rodney: Used in unconventional role versus Rays

Rodney retired both batters he faced with one strikeout during Sunday's outing against the Rays.

Rodney's outing was hardly notable aside from the fact that he was used in the fifth inning, after starter Fernando Romero faltered. His deployment seems even odder considering the team coughed up a lead in the ninth inning before winning the game in extras. Despite this development, Rodney still seems to have a solid grasp on the team's closer role heading into the All-Star break, though he might be a trade candidate heading into the July 31 non-waiver deadline.

  • Ryne Stanek RP | STL

Rays' Ryne Stanek: Allows one run across two innings

Stanek allowed one run on two hits with no walks and two strikeouts in two innings during Sunday's outing against the Twins. He didn't factor into the decision.

Serving as the opener once again, Stanek breezed through the first inning before allowing a run on two hits in the second. He threw 21 of 31 pitches for strikes but was capped at two innings as the Rays paraded out nine pitchers on the day. Stanek has a solid 2.08 ERA to go along with a sharp 0.95 WHIP, but his inability to pile up wins or saves limits his fantasy appeal.

  • Rays' Andrew Kittredge: Shipped to minors

Kittredge was optioned to Triple-A Durham following Sunday's matchup against the Twins, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

After getting called up to the big club July 11, Kittredge appeared in one outing, tossing 2.1 innings and surrendering one run on three hits and one walk while fanning two. Through 15 games for the Rays this season, the 28-year-old right-hander has accrued a 8.14 ERA and 1.90 WHIP with 14 strikeouts over 21 innings.

  • Brian Johnson RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brian Johnson: Struggles to throw strikes in return

Johnson (hip) lasted 4.2 innings and didn't factor into the decision in his start Sunday in the Red Sox's 5-2 win over the Blue Jays. He allowed two runs on two hits and four walks and struck out five.

Johnson bounced back from a bout of hip inflammation to return from the 10-day disabled list in the minimum amount of time, but he didn't exhibit much command or control in his return to the mound. Both of the hits Johnson allowed went for extra bases -- including a two-run blast by Teoscar Hernandez in the third inning -- and he needed 84 pitches to retire 14 hitters. Despite the southpaw's middling results as a starter this season, he'll be guaranteed at least one more start July 21 against the Tigers, according to Matt Vautour of MassLive.com reports. If Johnson turns a corner in that outing, he'll have a good chance at earning an extended stay in the rotation with Eduardo Rodriguez (ankle) likely out until at least mid-August and Drew Pomeranz (biceps) and Steven Wright (knee) also on the disabled list.

  • Angels' Eduardo Paredes: Brought back from minors

The Angels recalled Paredes from Triple-A Salt Lake prior to Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic Los Angeles reports.

It's already the eighth callup of the season for Paredes, who has yielded 14 earned runs on 25 hits and six walks over 16.1 innings across his previous seven stints with the big club. Expect the Angels to limit the right-hander's usage to lower-leverage situations while he's up in the majors.
