Abreu was appointed as the Yankees' 29th man for Saturday's doubleheader.

Abreu was on the taxi squad for the weekend series, and he'll step in to fill a bullpen role for the twin bill Saturday after Nick Tropeano was designated for assignment. If Abreu makes a relief appearance, it will be his major-league debut. While he won't be on the active roster past Saturday for the time being, the right-hander could join the bullpen on a more regular basis at some point this year.

Burdi was recalled from the White Sox's alternate training site Saturday.

Burdi has been limited over the past two seasons while recovering from Tommy John surgery and a dislocated knee, but he'll join the major-league bullpen for the first time to help bolster the bullpen. The 2016 first-round pick was thought to be major-league ready in 2017 prior to his injuries. The right-hander posted a 5.70 ERA and 40:18 K:BB over 30 innings across 28 appearances (one start) in the minors over the past two seasons.

Bummer (biceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday.

Bummer was removed from Friday's win against Cleveland after throwing 30 pitches and will miss several games as a result of a left biceps strain. The southpaw had been dominant out of the bullpen for the White Sox to begin the season, recording a 1.23 ERA and 12:4 K:BB over 7.1 innings across seven appearances. Evan Marshall and Steve Cishek could see an uptick in higher-leverage opportunities while Bummer is sidelined.

Weber didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 5-3 win over the Blue Jays, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks over three innings. He struck out three.

The Red Sox continue to keep Weber on a short leash. The right-hander threw 64 pitches (39 strikes) before getting the hook, and he has yet to finish the fourth inning in any of his three starts so far. Weber's 9.90 ERA and 2.40 WHIP certainly don't provide the club with much reason to extend him further. Boston's rotation woes give the team little option but to keep trotting the 29-year-old out there, with his next start scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Rays, but Weber is far from being any kind of fantasy asset.

Foster will start Saturday against Cleveland in what will be a bullpen game.

White Sox manager Rick Renteria confirmed Foster as Saturday's starter following Chicago's win Friday night. The right-handed rookie is making his first career start at any level. Ross Detwiler is also expected to pitch Saturday.

Jimenez struck out two but gave up a game-tying two-run home run to Adam Frazier in the ninth inning of Friday's 17-13 extra-innings win over the Pirates.

The right-hander came within one strike of fanning the side and securing his fifth save of the season, but instead Bryan Reynolds and Phillip Evans poked consecutive two-out singles to set up Frazier's blast and saddle Jimenez with his first blown save. The Tigers' closer now carries an unsightly 7.50 ERA and 1.50 WHIP through six innings with a 4:1 K:BB, and it's worth noting that his velocity remains down -- he topped out at 95.7 mph with his fastball Friday, a figure that would have been more reflective of his average fastball in prior seasons, and the four-seam fastball Frazier tagged registered at only 91.9 mph.

Smeltzer allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two over 4.1 innings in a no-decision against the Royals on Friday.

He was making his first start of the season. Smeltzer struggled in two relief appearances to begin the year, but the Twins decided to see what Smeltzer could do after Lewis Thorpe walked four in four innings during his start Monday. Smeltzer was serviceable during his time on the mound (62 pitches) and likely showed enough to stick in the rotation until Minnesota gets either Rich Hill (shoulder) or Homer Bailey (biceps) back.

Heller is part of the Yankees' taxi squad for the team's upcoming series against Tampa Bay, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Heller was moved to the Yankees' alternate training site July 25, but he'll be one of two relievers traveling with the team for its weekend series against the Rays. In his only appearance this season, the right-hander allowed one run in one inning against Washington.

Junis allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two over 4.2 innings in a no-decision against the Twins on Friday.

The Twins did what they do with a couple long balls, but both were solo shots, and that was the extent of the damage. Junis threw 76 pitches in this outing after throwing 64 pitches in his 2020 debut last weekend. Junis began the season on the COVID-19 injured list and it will be a couple starts yet before he's fully built up.

The 24-year-old has yet to pitch above the Triple-A level, but he stands a reasonable chance of making his big-league debut at some point this season.
