  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Phillies' Brad Miller: Late scratch Friday

Miller has been scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies for an unspecified reason, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

It's not yet clear whether Miller's removal from the lineup is due to an injury, but Nick Maton will start at second base and bat seventh Friday. Miller had started in each of the last two contests and gone 5-for-9 with a home run, three runs, three RBI and two strikeouts during that time.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Could return this weekend

Cabrera (biceps) took live batting practice Friday and could be activated from the injured list Saturday or Sunday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

The 38-year-old has been taking batting practice throughout the week, but he's now on the cusp of being activated after facing live pitching. Cabrera was struggling to begin the season with a .514 OPS through seven games before landing on the injured list with a biceps injury.

  • White Sox's Yermin Mercedes: Back in action Friday

Mercedes (foot) is batting seventh as the designated hitter Friday against the Rangers.

The 28-year-old exited Tuesday's matchup with Cleveland after fouling a ball off his left foot, but he won't end up missing any time due to Wednesday's postponement and Thursday's scheduled off day. Mercedes is enjoying a breakout start to the season with a .390/.429/.661 slash line, four homers, four doubles, 12 RBI and seven runs through 16 games.

  • Luis Torrens C | NYM

Mariners' Luis Torrens: Out of Friday's lineup

Torrens is not in the lineup Friday against the Red Sox.

The 24-year-old has alternated starts with Tom Murphy over the past week, and that trend will continue Friday after Torrens went 0-for-2 with a walk during Thursday's series opener.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Receives first day off

Canha is out of the lineup for Friday's game at Baltimore.

Canha has started all 19 games this season but will head to the bench Friday, giving him two straight days of rest following Thursday's scheduled off day. Seth Brown, Ramon Laureano and Stephen Piscotty will start from left to right in the outfield for Oakland.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Cubs' Joc Pederson: No plans for MRI

Pederson (wrist) is not currently scheduled for an MRI and will be reevaluated after a few days of rest, Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Pederson was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to April 21. It's unclear whether he will be able to return after the minimum time, though we should have a clearer idea of his status within a few days. Jake Marisnick and Nico Hoerner could both see increased playing time in Pederson's absence.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Reds' Jesse Winker: Two homers in slugfest

Winker went 2-for-4 with two walks, two home runs, three RBI and two total runs scored in Thursday's extra-inning loss to the Diamondbacks.

The Reds let this one slip away and are now back at .500, but Winker did all he could, reaching base four times and homering twice out of the leadoff spot. Winker missed time earlier in the season with calf cramps, but he's now batting .373 with a 1.095 OPS, so there should be no more questions about him possibly splitting time with Tyler Naquin.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Sits against left-hander

Dickerson isn't starting Thursday's game against the Marlins, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Left-hander Daniel Castano is starting Thursday's series opener for the Marlins, so Dickerson will retreat to the bench. Darin Ruf will take his place in left field, batting fifth.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Giants' Brandon Belt: Remains out of lineup

Belt (quadriceps) isn't starting Thursday's game against the Marlins, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Belt left Tuesday's game with right quadriceps soreness and will remain out of the lineup for a second consecutive game. Wilmer Flores will start at first base and bat second Thursday.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Cubs' Joc Pederson: Placed on 10-day IL

Pederson was placed on the 10-day injured list due to left wrist tendinitis, retroactive to April 21, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Pederson had already been out of the lineup for the last two games due to this issue. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to return to action, but Jake Marisnick could see increased playing time in Pederson's absence. Nico Hoerner was recalled from the Cubs' alternate training site in a corresponding move.
