  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Goes hitless in first rehab game

Stanton (Achilles) went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in a rehab contest with Double-A Somerset on Saturday.

Stanton saw his first game action of any kind since July 23 and showed some rust, fanning twice in three plate appearances. The slugger is expected to play for Somerset again Sunday before taking live batting practice against injured hurler Luis Severino (lat) on Tuesday. Stanton could then be activated for the start of New York's four-game series in Oakland that begins Thursday, per Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Swats three-run homer

Turner went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 7-0 win over the Marlins.

Turner was one of three Dodgers with multiple hits in the contest, and his third-inning blast to left field accounted for the team's final three runs of the contest. The long ball was the first for the veteran since July 7, a span of 18 games. Turner has hit 20-plus homers in four of his past six campaigns, but he's at only nine this season and will need a big push down the stretch to reach that mark again.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Could return Sunday

Alvarez (illness) could be back in the lineup Sunday against Atlanta, Ethan Sands of MLB.com reports.

The Astros will wait another day to evaluate Alvarez after his tests came back normal at the hospital Friday. Trey Mancini will operate as the designated hitter while Alvarez is sidelined.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Undergoing further evaluation

Alvarez's tests at the hospital Friday night came back normal and he will undergo further evaluation Saturday at the ballpark.

He is not in Saturday's lineup and had to leave Friday's game after feeling ill on the field. Alvarez was released from the hospital Friday night and it's a good sign that he's at the ballpark the next day. Trey Mancini is starting at designated hitter in place of Alvarez.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Out with illness Saturday

Alvarez (illness) is not in Saturday's lineup against Atlanta, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

He left Friday's game because he was feeling ill on the field and was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated. Alvarez's status will be updated when the team provides more information. Trey Mancini is the designated hitter Saturday.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Returns to lineup

Blackmon (hamstring) is back in action for Saturday's contest against the Giants.

Blackmon missed Friday after he left Thursday's loss to St. Louis early with a hamstring injury. Since the start of August, he's put up an OPS of .503 over 60 plate appearances with eight RBI and a stolen base.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: In as DH Saturday

Jimenez (knee) is starting at designated hitter and batting third Saturday against the Guardians, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

He exited Friday's game after twisting his right knee, but he's right back in the lineup the next day. The White Sox will likely look to DH Jimenez as often as they reasonably can down the stretch in order to avoid lower-body issues.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Riding pine vs. lefty

Choi is not in Saturday's lineup against the Royals.

He will take a seat with a lefty (Kris Bubic) on the hill for Kansas City. Choi is hitting .105 with zero home runs in 12 games this month.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Mets' Mark Canha: On bench for matinee

Canha will sit for the afternoon portion of Saturday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Canha will sit for the second consecutive game, but he won't be getting two off days in a row as long as he returns to the lineup for the nightcap. Tyler Naquin will handle left field in the first game of the day.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Blasts home run Friday

Morel went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in Friday's 8-7 win over the Brewers.

Morel's sixth-inning homer, his 12th of the season, put the Cubs ahead for good in the high-scoring contest. The rookie also has nine stolen bases this year and a solid .790 OPS. He showed off his versatility by starting at shortstop Friday, though he's also played outfield as well as second and third base. Morel's had a strong debut so far, and he could be primed for a big 2023 campaign assuming he has an Opening Day lineup spot.
