  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

    Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Remains sidelined

Alvarez (knee) will remain on the bench Monday against the Rockies, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Alvarez lasted just two games in his return from the COVID-19 injured list before the knee soreness he battled back in spring training popped back up, and he's now been on the bench for two straight games. It's not clear when he'll return to the lineup. Abraham Toro will remain the designated hitter in his absence.

  • Reds' Christian Colon: Remains in organization

Colon cleared waivers and was outrighted to the Reds' alternate training site Monday.

Colon struggled with inconsistent playing time in the majors over the start of the season as he hit .130 with a double and two RBI over 23 at-bats. As a result, he was designated for assignment by the Reds on Friday, but he'll remain in the organization after he was unable to find a spot on another team's 40-man roster.

  • Luis Torrens C | NYM

Padres' Luis Torrens: Joins major-league roster

Torrens was recalled from the Padres' alternate training site Monday.

The Padres were left with just one healthy catcher with Francisco Mejia (thumb) sidelined, so Torrens will serve as depth behind the plate while Mejia is on the 10-day injured list. Austin Hedges should see the majority of the time at catcher. Torrens made brief appearances in the majors during the 2017 and 2019 seasons, recording a .168/.250/.212 slash line with four doubles and seven RBI over 137 at-bats.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Out 2-to-3 more weeks

Stanton (hamstring) is expected to return in two or three weeks, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Stanton hit .293/.453/585 through 14 games this season before suffering yet another injury, landing on the injured list in early August with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain. He's expected to resume baseball activities soon, but he won't return until the start of September unless things progress faster than expected.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: One-man offense in loss

Carpenter went 1-for-4 with a two-run single in a loss to the White Sox on Sunday.

Carpenter prevented the indignity of a shutout for the Cardinals by plating Tommy Edman and Paul Goldschmidt with a sixth-inning single for the only two Cardinals runs of the day. The veteran had a productive weekend against the White Sox despite going just 2-for-11 in three games, as he drove in four runs overall during that stretch.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Reaches base four times

Blackmon went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two walks Sunday against the Rangers.

Blackmon drove in his first run of the game on an infield single in the second inning. He followed that up with a double deep to right field in the fourth frame to record his 22nd RBI of the season. After two rare hitless performances, Blackmon collected hits in each of the Rockies' final two games of their weekend series. For the campaign, Blackmon is now hitting .446/.489/.663 with three home runs and 19 runs scored across 92 plate appearances.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Stays hot at plate

Jimenez went 2-for-4 with a home run, one run scored and two RBI on Sunday against the Cardinals.

Jimenez was the final batter in a series of four consecutive homers for the White Sox in the fifth inning. It was his seventh home run of the season and fourth in his past five contests. Jimenez now has a .267/.291/.573 line across 79 plate appearances to go along with 17 RBI and nine runs scored.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Giants' Brandon Belt: Clocks second home run

Belt went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in Sunday's 15-3 loss to Oakland.

Belt's second-inning homer was his first since Aug. 5 and second of the season. The 32-year-old lefty is still slashing just .186/.271/.349 in 48 plate appearances this season.

  • Mike Ford DH | MIN

Yankees' Mike Ford: Plates three in win

Ford went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an RBI single in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Red Sox.

Ford opened the scoring in the first when he knocked in Gio Urshela with a single. In the third, Ford went deep off Red Sox starter Chris Mazza. The 28-year-old Ford is up to two homers, 10 RBI, three runs scored and a .194 batting average in 11 games this season.

  • Phillies' Andrew McCutchen: Homers off bench

McCutchen went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Sunday's win against the Mets.

McCutchen wasn't in the starting nine Sunday, but he gave the Phillies a boost as part of a three-run sixth inning to put the team ahead. The home run was the first of the season for the 33-year-old, who has a .528 OPS with seven RBI in 2020.
