  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Racks up three hits

Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Sunday's 9-4 win over the Marlins.

Alvarez delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning and a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Through 10 games in June, the designated hitter has already posted five three-hit efforts, picking right up where he left off after ending May strong. The 24-year-old is up to a .311/.402/.628 slash line with 17 home runs, 41 RBI, 38 runs scored, seven doubles and two triples through 54 contests. His 1.030 OPS is just 37 points shy of his career-best mark from his rookie year, though it remains to be seen if he can push it even higher in 2022.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Not in Sunday's lineup

Ohtani is not in the lineup Sunday against the Mets, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Ohtani's absence appears to be tied to the fact that the Angels seemingly don't want Mike Trout taking the field two days in a row immediately after a three-game absence due to groin tightness. Trout will fill the designated hitter spot Sunday, leaving no room for Ohtani.

  • White Sox's Yermin Mercedes: Cast off 40-man

Mercedes was designated for assignment on Sunday.

Mercedes was slashing .230/.376/.425 with four home runs in 25 games at Triple-A. He was a nice story early last season when he was having success in the majors but no longer factors into Chicago's short- or long-term plans.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rangers' Brad Miller: Not in Sunday's lineup

Miller is not in Sunday's lineup against the White Sox.

Even with a righty (Michael Kopech) on the hill, Miller will head to the bench after being activated from the injured list Friday and notching two hits Saturday. Zach Reks will start in left field and hit eighth.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Crushes homer Saturday

Stanton went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-0 victory versus the Cubs.

Stanton was part of a homer barrage against Cubs starter Matt Swarmer, as the slugger's 436-foot, fourth-inning blast was one of six solo shots hit by the Yankees against the rookie hurler. Of note, Stanton's blast was hit at an estimated 119.8 mph -- the hardest hit homer in the majors this season and the fourth-hardest in the Statcast era, per Sarah Langs of MLB.com. Stanton has just two hits over his past 15 at-bats, but both have left the yard.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Three hits, homer

Ohtani went 3-for-4 with a home run, double, three runs and three RBI in a 11-6 win against the Mets on Saturday.

Ohtani reached base with a double, single and home run in each of his first three at-bats for his first three-hit game since May 9. In the process, the 27-year-old extended his hit streak to a modest eight games, though he's batting a standard .286 during 42 June at-bats. The two-way phenom is now slashing .255/.333/.476 with 13 home runs, 41 runs and 37 RBI in 60 games.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Bows out Saturday

Buxton is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rays, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Buxton walloped a whopping five home runs over his last three games, but he will get a chance to get off his feet Saturday. Gilberto Celestino will get the start in center field, and Gary Sanchez will serve as the Twins' designated hitter.

  • Astros' Michael Brantley: Smacks fourth homer

Brantley went 2-for-3 with two walks, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 7-4 loss to the Marlins.

He got the Astros on the board by taking Pablo Lopez deep in the bottom of the first inning, but the Marlins were already ahead 2-0 and never relinquished their lead. Brantley is posting his usual numbers in his age-35 season, slashing .293/.380/.426 through 50 games with four homers, one steal, 18 RBI and 19 runs. The home run was Brantley's first since May 17.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Power surge continues Friday

Buxton went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs and a third run scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Rays.

After the center fielder took Gerrit Cole deep twice Thursday, it was Drew Rasmussen's turn to feel Buxton's wrath. The 28-year-old became only the fourth player in Twins history to have consecutive multi-homer games, and Friday's performance continued a power surge that has seen Buxton bat .400 (10-for-25) over his last six games with two doubles, six homers, nine runs and nine RBI.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rangers' Brad Miller: Hitless in return

Miller started in left field and went 0-for-4 in Friday's 8-3 loss to the White Sox.

Miller was activated off the injured list Friday and resumed his role as a starter against right-handers. The White Sox are throwing righties Saturday and Sunday, so Miller could slot in at left field or third base.
