Tomas Nido C | DET
Mets' Tomas Nido: Joins big club
The Mets called up Nido from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
The move comes with the Mets placing Francisco Alvarez (thumb) on the IL. Nido has played well with Triple-A Syracuse this season, slashing .345/.345/.517 with two doubles, one home run and two RBI over 30 plate appearances. With Alvarez on the shelf, Nido will serve as the Mets' backup catcher behind Omar Narvaez.

Francisco Alvarez C | NYM
Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Lands on IL
The Mets placed Alvarez (thumb) on the 10-day injured list Saturday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Alvarez was removed from Friday's game against the Dodgers after he stumbled on his turn to second base and appeared to jam his left thumb. He received an MRI following Friday's contest, and while Mets manager Carlos Mendoza admitted to Tim Healey of Newsday that he was "pretty concerned," Alvarez seems to have escaped with a sprained left thumb, rather than a break or ligament tear. With Alvarez on the shelf, the Mets selected Tomas Nido from Triple-A Syracuse to serve as the backup to Omar Narvaez. To make room for Nido on the 40-man roster, New York designated Kolton Ingram for assignment Saturday.

Ben Rortvedt C | NYM
Rays' Ben Rortvedt: Sitting versus lefty
Rortvedt isn't in the Rays' lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.
Left-hander Nestor Cortes will start on the mound for New York, forcing the lefty-hitting Rortvedt to step out of the lineup. Rene Pinto will take his place behind the dish and bat ninth.

Omar Narvaez C | HOU
Mets' Omar Narvaez: Could be set for more work
Narvaez went 0-for-4 after replacing Francisco Alvarez (thumb) in the second inning of Friday's win over the Dodgers.
Alvarez was headed for an MRI after the game, but per Tim Healey of Newsday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza is "pretty concerned" about the severity of the injury. As the only other catcher on the 40-man roster, Narvaez figures to see a big spike in his playing time should Alvarez land on the IL, but that may not result in much additional fantasy value -- since 2022, the 32-year-old sports a .208/.288/.300 slash line in 467 plate appearances with only six homers. Tomas Nido, who was in camp this spring as a non-roster invitee, is batting .345 (10-for-29) for Triple-A Syracuse and would likely be promoted to take Alvarez's spot, but his career numbers in the majors aren't any better than Narvaez's performance the last few years.

Riley Adams C | WAS
Nationals' Riley Adams: Pops second homer
Adams went 2-for-3 with a double, a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Astros.
The 27-year-old backstop was the only Washington hitter to have much success against Justin Verlander in his 2024 debut, lacing a two-bagger off the the future Hall of Famer in the third inning and taking him deep in the fifth for Adams' second long ball of the year. With Keibert Ruiz (illness) on the shelf, Adams has started seven of the last nine games and gone 9-for-25 (.360) with four doubles and a homer. Even when Ruiz has recovered, a Nationals club searching for offense might try to find ways to keep Adams in the lineup as long as he stays hot.

Adley Rutschman C | BAL
Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Hits grand slam in defeat
Rutschman went 3-for-5 with a grand slam during Friday's loss to the Royals.
While the rest of Baltimore's lineup was unable to find consistent success against the Royals, Rutschman accounted for three of the team's eight hits, and his seventh-inning slam was the only way the Orioles were able to put runs on the board. The 26-year-old backstop is now 7-for-21 across his last five games and remains one of the more reliable offensive catchers in baseball.

Tyler Stephenson C | CIN
Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Cracks homer in win
Stephenson went 1-for-2 with two walks, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-1 win over the Angels.
Stephenson, batting cleanup for the first time this season, went deep in the sixth inning off left-hander Tyler Anderson to give the Reds a 2-1 lead. It was his second home run of the season and snapped an 0-for-13 skid -- his previous hit was his first homer. It's unclear if Stephenson will continue to bat fourth. Jeimer Candelario (illness) had been the team's primary cleanup hitter -- against both lefties and righties -- but was recently dropped to seventh amid a slump. And the Reds hadn't faced a left-hander since he was demoted. Stephenson is off to a slow start, slashing .209/.300/.395 through 50 plate appearances.

Travis d'Arnaud C | LAA
Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Slugs three homers
D'Arnaud went 3-for-4 with three home runs and six RBI during Friday's 8-3 victory over the Rangers.
D'Arnaud hadn't registered a home run in his first 14 contests before going deep three times Friday -- the first time he's done so in one game since 2019. His offensive outburst propelled him from a .591 OPS to .819 through 52 plate appearances this season.

Yainer Diaz C | HOU
Astros' Yainer Diaz: Tallies ninth RBI
Diaz went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored Friday against the Nationals.
Diaz got the scoring started for Houston with an RBI double in the second inning before coming around to score. Friday's effort marked his fourth multi-hit performance in his last 10 games, during which he's gone 12-for-41 (.293) with five RBI and five runs scored.
