Manager Terry Francona indicated after Sunday's game that Gomes will be placed on the disabled list with a separated shoulder, Zack Meisel of The Plain Dealer reports.

Considering he left the field in a cast and on a cart, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that the veteran backstop will land on the DL. The team could reportedly activate Roberto Perez prior to Monday's contest against the Royals, leaving he and Chris Gimenez as the options behind the plate in Gomes' absence.

Gomes has suffered a right shoulder injury and will head back to Cleveland for further evaluation.

If there's any silver lining in this situation, it's that he didn't suffer a lower-body injury, which easily could have happened based on how Gomes appeared to fall. There appears to be little information known at the moment, but looks for Gomes to at least miss a few days in a best-case scenario.

Gomes was carted off the field in the fifth inning of Sunday's game against the Twins after he violently tripped while running out a groundball, suffering an apparent right arm injury in the process, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

After breaking a 0-for-27 slump in the third inning with a double, it didn't take long for Gomes' tremendously disappointing season to take another turn for the worse. While it looks like Gomes may have avoided a serious lower-body injury since he was able to stand and walk with assistance to the cart, team trainers immediately placed the catcher's right arm in a sling. An official timetable for Gomes' injury won't be known until the Indians' medical staff is able to conduct tests, but this certainly looked like the sort of injury that would require a DL stint. If that ends up being the case, Chris Gimenez would be next in line to take over as the Tribe's primary catcher.

Thole went 2-for-3 with a two-RBI double in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the A's.

The reserve catcher enjoyed some rare success at the plate, opening the scoring on the day by plating Troy Tulowitzki and Darwin Barney with a two-bagger to deep right field in the third. Thole now has back-to-back multi-hit and RBI efforts, and is slashing .333/.385/.417 over 12 at-bats in July.

Grandal is out of the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Dating back to before the All-Star break, Grandal has started a total of five consecutive games behind the plate. He'll get a regular rest day Sunday, giving way to backup A.J. Ellis.

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup Sunday against the Phillies.

D'Arnaud has been behind the plate for the first two games of the series, but will take a seat in favor of Rene Rivera for Sunday's afternoon finale.

Realmuto is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals.

Realmuto has started the first two games of the series, and six straight overall dating back to before the All-Star break, so he was likely due for a regular day of rest. Jeff Mathis will take over for him behind the plate.

Maile is out of the lineup Sunday against the Orioles, MLB.com's Bill Chastain reports.

Promoted Friday from Triple-A Durham, Maile immediately claimed the first two starts at catcher out of the All-Star break for the Rays, recording three hits across those contests. Curt Casali will get the nod Sunday, but since he hasn't given the Rays much in the way of offense this season, Maile could have a case for more frequent starts if he keeps hitting well on days he's in the lineup.

McCann is out of the lineup Sunday against the Royals.

McCann was behind the plate for the first two games out of the All-Star break, going 0-for-8 at the dish. He'll get the day off Sunday afternoon, with Jarrod Saltalamacchia stepping in to handle the catching duties.

Leon went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and three-run homer in Saturday's 5-2 victory over the Yankees.

The improbable story that is Leon's 2016 season at the plate continues, as he practically defeated the Yankees single-handedly. His fourth-inning RBI single brought home Jackie Bradley, and his 424-foot shot in the sixth drove in Bradley and Aaron Hill, giving the Red Sox a 5-1 lead. Leon now has three straight two-hit efforts and is slashing .458/.500/.712 over 59 at-bats this season.
