Adams will not start Tuesday's game against the Marlins.

Adams started four games in a row last week but has now been on the bench for two of the last three. Tres Barrera takes over behind the plate in his absence.

Hedges is not starting Tuesday's game against the Rangers.

Hedges went 1-for-2 with a double and a run Sunday, boosting his average to .206 with three doubles and six runs in the last 10 games. Wilson Ramos is catching and batting fifth Tuesday.

Jeffers is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

He'll be on the bench for the series opener while Mitch Garver checks in behind the dish, but Jeffers may have turned the Twins' catching situation into more of a timeshare. Jeffers caught in three of the Twins' previous four games and has posted an .816 OPS over 22 contests since the All-Star break.

Atlanta optioned Contreras to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.

Contreras was up with the big club for three days after Travis d'Arnaud left the team to observe the birth of his child. With d'Arnaud returning from the paternity list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Atlanta didn't have a spot for Contreras as a third catcher. He could rejoin the big club after Sept. 1, when active rosters expand from 26 to 28 men.

Atlanta reinstated d'Arnaud (personal) from the paternity list Tuesday.

William Contreras will head back to Triple-A Gwinnett to create room on the active roster for d'Arnaud, who was away from the team for the maximum three days to witness the birth of his child. Stephen Vogt will remain with Atlanta as the No. 2 backstop behind d'Arnaud, who will likely start behind the dish in Tuesday's game against the Yankees.

Raleigh will sit Tuesday against Oakland.

Raleigh is a fairly highly rated prospect, and he's been given the chance to earn everyday at-bats recently, but he hasn't made the most of the opportunity. Through his first 91 MLB plate appearances, he's homered just once while slashing .179/.231/.286. Tom Murphy starts behind the plate in his absence.

Gomes went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI as Oakland fell 5-3 to Seattle on Monday.

Gomes opened the game's scoring with his first-inning RBI groundout and slugged a 398-foot blast to left off Mariners starter Marco Gonzales in the fourth. The backstop has been splitting time fairly evenly with Sean Murphy since joining Oakland and is slashing .250/.250/.479 in 14 games with his new team.

Perez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks as Kansas City defeated Houston, 7-1 on Monday.

Perez singled in the first inning, launched his 33rd home run off Zack Greinke in the third, and walked in the fifth and ninth to record his fourth game reaching base four times this season. In addition, Perez's two bases on balls marks the second time he's drawn multiple walks all season -- both occurrences coming in August. The backstop's 81 RBI rank 14th in MLB and sets a new career mark for the seven-time All-Star.

Murphy is out of the lineup Monday against the Athletics, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

The 26-year-old finds himself on the bench for the second consecutive contest, as Yan Gomes receives another start behind the plate. Murphy has a .939 OPS so far in August, but he and Gomes are now splitting time at catcher, as they each have 10 starts in the past 20 games. Additionally, the Associated Press reports Murphy was dealing with a tender wrist Sunday that limited him to just a cameo as a defensive replacement for the final game of the weekend series against the Giants.

Contreras (knee) could return Friday as the designated hitter for the upcoming series against the White Sox and Twins, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

Contreras has already missed the minimum 10 days with a sprained right knee, but it doesn't sound as though he'll have to miss too much more time. He may not be ready to catch yet, but as long as the Cubs trust him to run the bases, he could return to the roster as an offense-only player until his knee fully heals.
