  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Rangers' Jonah Heim: On bench Friday

Heim will sit Friday against the White Sox.

Heim has looked good at the plate this season, hitting .262/.324/.485 with seven homers in 40 games. He'll rest Friday after starting the last two games behind the plate, with Sam Huff getting the nod in his absence.

  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

Rangers' Mitch Garver: Placed on COVID-19 injured list

Garver was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Friday.

The Rangers didn't specify whether Garver had tested positive himself, so it's unclear when he's expected to return to the lineup. He'd been serving as the primary designated hitter since returning from a knee injury in mid-May. The Rangers may simply rotate hitters though that spot in his absence.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Remains on bench

Jeffers will sit Friday against the Rays.

Jeffers still has the edge in starts behind the plate compared to Friday's catcher Gary Sanchez, appearing 33 times to Sanchez's 26. That edge may be slipping, however, as it's now been Sanchez behind the plate for four of the last five games.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Back from injured list

Gomes (oblique) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

Gomes has been out just over two weeks with a strained left oblique, and he'll rejoin the big-league roster without the need for a minor-league rehab assignment. The 34-year-old has a .651 OPS in 24 games this season and should reclaim No. 2 catching duties behind starter Willson Contreras.

  • Brewers' Victor Caratini: Returning to No. 2 role

Caratini is not in the lineup for Friday's game at Washington.

The 28-year-old served as Milwaukee's No. 1 backstop over past week with Omar Narvaez (illness) on the COVID-19 injured list, but Narvaez is back on the active roster and starting Friday. Caratini started six of seven games during that stretch and went 4-for-18 with a double, two walks and a run. He should continue to see playing time against left-handed pitching while Narvaez handles most of the starts against righties.

  • Pirates' Tyler Heineman: Heads to bench Friday

Heineman is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus Atlanta.

Heineman started six of the past eight games and will take a seat after posting a .618 OPS during that stretch. Michael Perez will start behind the plate in his place.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

    Yankees' Jose Trevino: Sitting Friday

Trevino is not in the starting lineup for Friday's matchup with the Cubs.

Trevino will take a seat after he went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Thursday's win over the Twins. Kyle Higashioka will take over behind the plate and bat eighth Friday.

  • Alex Jackson C | MIN

Brewers' Alex Jackson: Placed on 10-day IL

Jackson (finger) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to June 7.

Jackson is dealing with a left middle finger sprain and will now be inactive for about a week as he nurses the injury. Omar Narvaez was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday, making it likely that Jackson reports to Triple-A Nashville once healthy.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Brewers' Omar Narvaez: Reinstated from COVID IL

Narvaez was activated off the COVID-19 injured list Friday.

Narvaez will return to the Brewers after missing a week of action. He'll return to his role as the team's primary catcher and currently owns a five-game hit streak, going 9-for-19 with three extra-base hits, two RBI and four runs in those contests.

  • Phillies' J.T. Realmuto: Receives Friday off

Realmuto is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Realmuto started the last eight games and will receive a breather after posting a .219/.278/.344 slash line during that stretch. Garrett Stubbs will take over behind the dish for Philadelphia.
