  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Receives Wednesday off

Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Kirsten Watson of SportsNet LA reports.

Smith started the past seven games and will receive a maintenance day for Wednesday's series finale versus Colorado. Austin Barnes will take over behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Out of Wednesday's lineup

Trevino isn't starting Wednesday against Pittsburgh.

Trevino is getting a chance to reset after he went 0-for-7 with two strikeouts over the last two matchups. Kyle Higashioka will start behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Red Sox's Kevin Plawecki: Seeing scarce opportunities

Plawecki is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Plawecki will stick on the bench for the 14th time in 16 games and continues to see little usage, even by the standards of No. 2 catchers. So long as top backstop Christian Vazquez remains healthy, he'll shoulder a heavy workload behind the plate.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Mets' James McCann: Gets breather Wednesday

McCann is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Reds, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

McCann will take a seat after he went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Tuesday's loss. Tomas Nido is starting at catcher and batting ninth against the Reds.

  • Chris Okey C | LAD

Reds' Chris Okey: Outrighted to Triple-A

Okey cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Okey was designated for assignment by Cincinnati on Tuesday and will remain in Louisville after going unclaimed on waivers. Over 27 Triple-A games this year, he's slashed .253/.309/.413 with a homer, 14 runs and 10 RBI.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Athletics' Sean Murphy: On bench Wednesday

Murphy isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Murphy started in the last six games and hit .318 with a homer, a double, four RBI and three runs during that time. Stephen Vogt will take his place at catcher and bat fifth Wednesday.

  • White Sox's Reese McGuire: Sits for fourth time in five games

McGuire is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.

Even after producing a season-high-tying three hits in his four plate appearances during Tuesday's 8-2 loss, McGuire will take a seat for the day game after a night game. He's now been benched four times in five games, as Seby Zavala has seemingly overtaken McGuire as Chicago's preferred option behind the plate.

  • Braves' William Contreras: Slugs homer No. 10

Contreras went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.

Atlanta jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning thanks to long balls by Austin Riley and Contreras. The young backstop snapped a 12-game homer drought with the blast, a stretch during which he slashed just .209/.277/.256; however, on the season, Contreras is batting a solid .267 with 10 home runs and 21 RBI through 40 contests.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Riding pine Wednesday

Gomes isn't in the lineup Wednesday against Milwaukee.

Gomes went 2-for-8 with a run and a strikeout over his last two games, but he'll get a breather Wednesday. P.J. Higgins is starting behind the plate and batting seventh.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Contreras (hamstring) isn't starting Wednesday against Milwaukee.

Contreras has been dealing with left hamstring tightness since Monday, and he'll be out of the lineup for a second consecutive game while he continues to receive treatment. Ian Happ is serving as the designated hitter while P.J. Higgins starts behind the plate.
