  • Gary Sanchez DH | MIL

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Takes seat Tuesday

Sanchez isn't in Tuesday's lineup against the Blue Jays.

Sanchez will retreat to the bench after going 0-for-7 with one strikeout over the past two games. Kyle Higashioka will start at catcher Tuesday.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Not starting Tuesday

Grandal (hand) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Cleveland.

Grandal left Monday's contest with a bruised right hand. It doesn't sound as though he'll need to miss too much time, but with the White Sox's postseason berth already secured, they can afford to be cautious with him. James McCann starts behind the plate in his absence.

Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Fine after taking foul tip to neck

Sanchez was sore but doing okay after being hit in the neck with a foul ball Sunday against Boston, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.

Sanchez stayed in the game after the incident Sunday and was back in the lineup for Monday's contest against Toronto, going 0-for-4 in the loss.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Belts first big-league homer

Kirk went 4-for-4 with a solo home run, double and three runs scored in Monday's 11-5 win over the Yankees.

After going 2-for-10 to start his major-league career, the backstop broke out in a big way Monday. He singled and scored in the third, doubled and scored in the fourth and capped his night off with his first big-league long ball in the seventh. Kirk has shared time with Danny Jansen at catcher since being promoted Sept. 11, but could be in line for a larger portion of the at-bats if he can build off Monday's performance.

  • Max Stassi C | SF

Angels' Max Stassi: Knocks in two

Stassi went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 8-5 victory over the Rangers.

Stassi picked up an RBI after grounding into a double play in the second inning, and he plated a run in the fourth on a single to left field. The backstop is putting together a solid season by his standards, slashing .256/.344/.462 with five homers and 17 RBI through 27 contests. He finished with a .136/.211/.167 line through 51 games a season ago.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Exits with bruised hand

Grandal left Monday's game against the Indians due to a bruised right hand, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Grandal's X-rays came back negative, which is promising news for the White Sox with the postseason on the horizon. He'll likely be evaluated on a daily basis moving forward.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Not in lineup

Jansen is not starting Monday against the Yankees.

Jansen hasn't seen his playing time dip by much even with the promotion of Alejandro Kirk, who starts Monday. He'd started five of the last six games heading into Monday's contest. It wouldn't be a surprise if he sat more frequently in the final week, as he's followed his disappointing .639 OPS from last season with a .589 mark this year.

  • Indians' Austin Hedges: Seeing little time in Cleveland

Hedges remains out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.

Since being acquired from the Padres in a deadline-day trade, Hedges has made just four starts through Cleveland's first 19 games of September. While it isn't surprising that Hedges has taken a back seat to top catcher Roberto Perez, the fact that he isn't the clear No. 2 backstop for the Indians is more unexpected. Like Hedges, Sandy Leon has also picked up four starts behind the dish in September.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Knocks two-run shot

Perez went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 5-3 loss to Milwaukee.

The Royals entered the ninth inning down 5-1 but managed a solid comeback attempt with Perez launching a two-out, two-run shot to close the gap. The 30-year-old catcher now owns a terrific 1.025 OPS with eight homers and 24 RBI this season.

  • Sam Huff C | BAL

Rangers' Sam Huff: Pops first big-league homer

Huff went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the 7-2 win over the Angels on Sunday.

Huff took Patrick Sandoval deep for his first big-league long ball and RBI in the fourth inning. The backstop has slashed .188/.235/.438 since being promoted Sept. 10. It currently looks like he will continue sharing the catching duties with Jeff Mathis during the season's final week, though his playing time could be reduced if Jose Trevino (wrist) is able to return from the injured list.
