Yankees' Jose Trevino: Reinstated from paternity leave

Trevino was reinstated from the paternity list Monday.

Trevino will return to the team ahead of its two-game series with the Red Sox on Tuesday. The catcher has struggled from the plate recently, going 2-for-25 with five strikeouts over his last nine contests. Trevino remains locked in a timeshare with Kyle Higashioka behind the plate.

  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Sitting out Game 1 on Monday

Heim is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader with the Marlins.

Heim will take a seat after he went 1-for-4 with a strikeout in Sunday's series finale with the Blue Jays. Sam Huff will take over behind the plate and bat seventh in the early contest Monday.

  • Ben Rortvedt C | NYM

Yankees' Ben Rortvedt: Sent back down

Rortvedt was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Sunday's win over the Rays.

Rortvedt provided depth behind the dish for the Yankees during their weekend series against the Rays but didn't appear in any games. He'll head back to the minors since Jose Trevino is expected to return from the paternity list ahead of Tuesday's series opener against Boston.

  • Orioles' Cam Gallagher: Scooped up by O's

The Orioles claimed Gallagher off waivers from the Padres on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Reliever Rico Garcia was designated for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster for Gallagher, who joins his third organization of the season after opening the year with the Royals. Gallagher should be first in line for a promotion to the big leagues if something happens to one of the two backstops on the Orioles' 40-man active roster, Adley Rutschman and Robinson Chirinos.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Emerging as primary backstop

Wong will start at catcher and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Orioles, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

Wong will start for the third time in four games and appears to have temporarily emerged as the top option in Boston's three-headed timeshare at catcher that also includes Reese McGuire and Kevin Plawecki. Since getting a call-up to Boston on Sept. 1, Wong has gone 3-for-12 with a home run, a double and three walks in six contests.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Resting Sunday

Langeliers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

Langeliers is sitting for only the fourth time since being promoted to the big leagues Aug. 16. Sean Murphy will handle catching duties while Stephen Vogt steps in as the Athletics' designated hitter with Langeliers on the bench.

  • Eric Haase C | SF

Tigers' Eric Haase: Gets Sunday off

Haase is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Haase will get a break in the series finale, with Tucker Barnhart picking up a start behind the plate. Haase has been much better offensively this season with a .750 OPS compared to a .539 OPS for Barnhart. The former will likely return to the lineup Monday.

  • Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Starting Sunday

Barnhart is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Sunday's game against the Royals.

Barnhart enters the lineup with Eric Haase getting a breather in the series finale. This will be Barnhart's first game action since Tuesday, as he's settled into a clear backup role behind Haase. Barnhart hasn't provided much offense when he has played, with a middling .213/.281/.258 slash line across 83 games this season.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Twins' Gary Sanchez: Gets Sunday off

Sanchez is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

Sanchez will get a breather with the Twins playing a day game following a night game. Sandy Leon will replace Sanchez behind the plate.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Resting Sunday

Rutschman is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, according to Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun.

The switch hitter owns just a .536 OPS against left-handed pitchers, so he will be held out Sunday with southpaw Rich Hill on the mound for Boston. Robinson Chirinos will take over behind the plate.
