  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Red Sox's Danny Jansen: Set to make history

Jansen will be the catcher Monday when the continuation of a suspended game between the Red Sox and Blue Jays resumes, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. The two teams will continue a game that was suspended June 27.

If the continuation goes off as planned, Jansen will become the first player in MLB history to appear in the same game for both teams. Jansen, who was traded from Toronto to Boston on July 27, was at the plate for the Blue Jays with one out and an 0-1 count in the top of the second inning when play was halted. The game will be part of a day-night doubleheader.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Exits with hand injury

Jeffers was pinch hit for in the ninth inning of Friday's loss to St. Louis due to a sore hand, Patrick Borzi of MinnPost.com reports. Jeffers went 2-for-3 with a run scored before departing.

Jeffers took balls off his hand twice while behind the plate but was able to continue playing defense. He couldn't grip a bat later in the game, however. It's not clear if Jeffers will undergo testing, but he already wasn't set to catch Saturday. Should he need additional time off, Christian Vazquez would step into a bigger workload.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Not starting Friday

Rogers is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Rogers has gone 0-for-17 with seven strikeouts over his last five outings. Dillon Dingler will handle catching duties and bat ninth against White Sox right-hander Chris Flexen.

  • Astros' Victor Caratini: Resting Friday

Caratini is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles.

After making back-to-back starts behind the dish, Caratini will get the night off Friday. With Yainer Diaz seeing more work at first base, Caratini should see plenty of action behind the plate in the closing weeks of the regular season.

  • Royals' Freddy Fermin: Taking seat Friday

Fermin is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Philadelphia.

After making seven consecutive starts, Fermin has been absent from the starting nine in back-to-back games. The 29-year-old will yield to Adam Frazier at DH on Friday. Fermin is slashing .301/.351/.421 across 283 plate appearances this season.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Sitting versus southpaw

Wells is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

It's left-hander Kyle Freeland toeing the rubber for the Rockies, so the left-handed hitting Wells will yield to Jose Trevino at catcher. Since Trevino returned from the injured list last week, he has garnered four starts to Wells' three, although the Yankees have faced just two traditional righties over that span (they also faced one righty opener).

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Taking seat Friday

Wong is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Wong is slashing just .236/.277/.387 with a 29.5 percent strikeout rate in the second half and is hitless over his last four contests. Danny Jansen will get the call at catcher in the series opener versus Arizona.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Sitting out Thursday

O'Hoppe is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Toronto.

It's a routine day off for O'Hoppe, who had started each of the previous three contests. Matt Thaiss will do the catching for the Halos in the series opener.

  • Ben Rortvedt C | NYM

Rays' Ben Rortvedt: Shifted to family emergency list

The Rays transferred Rortvedt from the paternity list to the family medical emergency list, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Per Whitaker, Rortvedt's new baby and the baby's mother are doing fine. This is a procedural move made so that he can spend more time with his family, as his three-game stay on the paternity list was set to run out. Rortvedt is expected to rejoin the Rays at some point on their road trip, potentially as soon as this weekend versus the Dodgers. Rob Brantly will remain on Tampa Bay's roster until Rortvedt returns.

  • Alex Jackson C | MIN

Rays' Alex Jackson: Retreating to bench Wednesday

Jackson is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.

Jackson will give way to Rob Brantly behind the dish as the Rays wrap up their series in Oakland. Ben Rortvedt (personal) is likely to return from the paternity list this weekend in Los Angeles, so Jackson's brief run as the Rays' No. 1 backstop should soon come to an end. Jackson owns a lowly .434 OPS over 144 plate appearances on the season, but he's shown some improvement since the All-Star break with a .200/.294/.378 slash line across 18 games.
