Giants' Evan Longoria: Won't be activated Tuesday

Longoria (hand, triceps) will not be activated Tuesday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

There was some speculation that Longoria could come off the disabled list for this game, but that will have to wait until Wednesday in Seattle, at the earliest. He was rehabbing a hand injury and was hit by a pitch on his left triceps in Sunday's rehab game.

  • Dodgers' Manny Machado: Takes over at third

Machado made his first start of the season at third base Monday, going 1-for-5 with a triple and a run scored in a 7-6 win over the Phillies.

Justin Turner (groin) was placed on the disabled list Monday, and Machado will garner most starts at the hot corner in his stead, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. This news doesn't affect the stud's immense fantasy value this season, but it could preserve Machado's third-base eligibility for the 2019 campaign.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Launches 23rd homer

Muncy went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, two RBI and a walk Monday in a 7-6 victory over Philadelphia.

Muncy went deep in the first inning to get his team on the board, and he plated another run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to tie the game. He's exhibited plenty of power during July, as he's batting .318 with six home runs and 10 RBI over 18 games. Muncy sits with 34 extra-base hits, a .613 slugging percentage and an eye-popping 1.025 OPS through 78 games this season.

Giants' Evan Longoria: Hit by pitch in rehab game

Longoria (hand) was hit by a pitch on his left triceps in Sunday's rehab game with Triple-A Sacramento, but he was able to stay in and finish the contest, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The plunking happened in Longoria's final at-bat Sunday, but all reports are that he left the contest unscathed. The 32-year-old was expected to be on a rehab stint from a broken hand that began Friday for at least a week, but Schulman hinted in another tweet that Longoria could potentially return for the Giants' upcoming series with the Mariners that begins Tuesday. We will wait for official word, but fantasy owners should prepare for an expedited activation. Longoria was slashing .246/.278/.434 with 10 homers and 34 RBI prior to landing on the disabled list June 15.

  • Carlos Asuaje 3B | LAD

Padres' Carlos Asuaje: Sitting out back end of doubleheader

Asuaje is out of the lineup for the second game of the Padres' doubleheader Sunday against the Phillies.

Asuaje picked up the start at second base in the Padres' 10-2 win in Game 1, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs and an RBI. He'll give way to Jose Pirela at the keystone in the final game of the series.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Rockies' DJ LeMahieu: DL stint forthcoming

LeMahieu will be placed on the 10-day disabled list prior to Saturday's game due to a strained oblique, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

LeMahieu was forced to exit Friday's contest before the third inning after going 0-for-2 during his first two plate appearances. Manager Bud Black noted that he's hopeful LeMahieu will not miss an extended period of time, adding that "it doesn't look like a six-week or eight-week oblique strain." The second baseman will be eligible to return against the Cardinals on July 31.

  • Dodgers' Manny Machado: Reaches base four times in debut

Machado went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks in his debut with the Dodgers on Friday.

Machado started at shortstop and batted second with his new club, a spot in the order which could help boost his run potential after scoring just 48 runs in 96 games with the Orioles. The 26-year-old will serve as the Dodgers' primary shortstop, but the team announced that he will also get the occasional start at third base, which could preserve his eligibility at the hot corner next season (depending on league format) after playing exclusively at short with Baltimore this year.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: Launches two more homers

Arenado went 3-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI and three runs to help Colorado to an 11-10 victory over Arizona on Friday.

Arenado is currently on one of his signature tears, as this was his third multi-hit performance in a row and his fifth in his last eight games overall, a stretch that has seen him launch three more homers and drive in nine runs. There's little left to say about the dynamic third baseman at this point, other than that he's firmly entrenched as one of the safest and most consistent assets in fantasy. He looks primed for a big second half that will likely see him squarely in the conversation as an MVP candidate.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Rockies' DJ LeMahieu: Leaves game due to injury

LeMahieu was lifted from Friday's matchup against the Diamondbacks after suffering a "side/back" injury, Patrick Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Manager Bud Black stated LeMahieu re-injured his side/back, the same injury that kept him out July 14 against the Mariners. He'll be considered day-to-day moving forward, and he'll likely be reevaluated prior to Saturday's tilt.

  • Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Produces five-hit game

Vargas went 5-for-5 with a double and a stolen base Thursday for Triple-A Reno in its 5-3 win over Tacoma.

The career-best five-hit performance extended Vargas' hitting streak to 19 games, with the infielder now maintaining a .412/.474/.529 slash line in July. The 27-year-old received his first MLB action last summer but has yet to earn a promotion to the big leagues in 2018 with the Diamondbacks' top three middle infielders -- Nick Ahmed, Ketel Marte and Daniel Descalso -- all steering clear of the disabled list. So long as that trio stays healthy in the second half, Vargas likely won't receive a promotion until September.
