Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Returning Monday from IL
Arroyo (knee) will be activated from the 10-day injured list before Monday's game against the Angels, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports
As expected, the 26-year-old makes his return for the series opener in Anaheim. Arroyo figures to be Boston's everyday second baseman, especially because Michael Chavis was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Returning to Triple-A
The Red Sox are optioning Chavis to Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
The infielder loses his spot on Boston's 26-man roster now that Christian Arroyo (knee) is ready to return. Difficulties making contact with fastballs and a pull-heavy approach have led to just three hits in 25 at-bats for Chavis since being recalled June 24. Future infield injuries could demand Chavis' return to the big-league roster in 2021, but he has shown little since his 2019 debut season to suggest he can be a consistent hitter at the MLB level. Arroyo, a more reliable defender and hitter, will take over starting duties at the keystone.

Michael Chavis 2B | CIN
Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Could be headed back to minors
Chavis started at second base and went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in Sunday's 1-0 win over Oakland.
Chavis was called up to Boston after Christian Arroyo (knee) landed on the injured list June 24. With Arroyo's expected activation in time for Monday night's game in Anaheim, Chavis could be headed back to the minors. Arroyo just had to get through a minor league game Saturday without incident -- he did, going 1-for-4 for Triple-A Worcester -- and was expected to join the club Monday. Chavis has gone 3-for-25 (.120) with nine strikeouts since he was called up, the third time on the Mass Pike shuttle from Worcester to Boston.

Luis Arraez 2B | SF
Twins' Luis Arraez: Steals base, scores three times
Arraez went 3-for-4 with a double, a steal, a walk and three runs scored in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Royals.
Arraez entered the contest in a 2-for-20 skid after he notched a three-hit game June 25. Sunday's effort was his fourth multi-hit performance over his last 12 games, and he swiped his first bag of the year. The 5-foot-10 infielder is slashing .285/.357/.375 through 227 plate appearances.

Gleyber Torres 2B | DET
Yankees' Gleyber Torres: On bench for nightcap
Torres isn't starting the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Mets.
Torres will get a breather after he went 0-for-2 with a run, a walk and a strikeout in Sunday's matinee. Gio Urshela will take over at shortstop while Rougned Odor enters the lineup at second base.

Christian Arroyo 2B | NYM
Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Should return Monday
Arroyo (knee) will travel to Anaheim and is expected to be activated for Monday's game against the Angels, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
Arroyo appeared in a couple rehab games with Triple-A Worcester and is poised to rejoin the active roster for Monday's series opener. The 26-year-old is hitting .264/.324/.432 with four homers and 19 RBI this season, and he should reclaim a regular role at second base once activated.

Jose Fermin 2B | STL
Indians' Jose Fermin: Hits injured list at Double-A Akron
Fermin was placed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Akron with a left hamstring strain Sunday.
The 22-year-old infielder has put together a solid .268/.365/.326 slash line with 13 RBI, 21 runs scored and one stolen base across 162 plate appearances. Fermin has appeared to be more of a contact hitter in the lower levels of the minor leagues, and he's shown a good eye at the plate with a 9.2 percent walk rate compared to a 7.4 percent strikeout rate this year.

Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC
Royals' Nicky Lopez: Hitting well recently
Lopez has hit .342 with two stolen bases and five runs scored in his last 12 games.
Lopez has found some success as a contact hitter recently. He's filled in as the near-everyday shortstop since Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) went on the injured list for the third time this season. Overall, Lopez is slashing .266/.353/.329 with no home runs, eight stolen bases, 12 RBI and 33 runs scored through 243 plate appearances.

Whit Merrifield 2B | ATL
Royals' Whit Merrifield: Notches 23rd steal
Merrifield went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-3 win over Minnesota.
While the 32-year-old went hitless for just the second time in his last 19 games, he was still able to add to his major-league leading steals total. Merrifield is now 23-for-24 on the basepaths, and his recent success at the dish has lifted his season slash line to .287/.338/.435 in 358 plate appearances. He's added eight home runs, 45 RBI and 50 runs scored from the top of Kansas City's order.

Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT
Rays' Brandon Lowe: Not starting Sunday
Lowe is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
Sporting a miserable .179 OBP in 95 plate appearances against lefties this season, Lowe sits as the Rays take on southpaw Robbie Ray. Overall, the infielder has hit .233 with three homers and seven RBI in his last 10 games. Mike Brosseau will start at second base Sunday.
