  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Sitting Friday

Goldschmidt is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta.

Goldschmidt will get some extra rest coming out of the All-Star break, taking a seat for Friday's series opener. In his place, Cody Bellinger will play first base while Trent Grisham plays center field.

  • Curtis Mead 3B | CHW

Rays' Curtis Mead: Returns to Triple-A

The Rays optioned Mead to Triple-A Durham on Friday.

The 24-year-old was called up July 11 when Brandon Lowe (oblique) was placed on the IL and will now return to Triple-A with Lowe being activated Friday. Mead has played 49 big-league games this season and has a .226/.318/.339 slash line in 132 plate appearances.

  • Justin Foscue 1B | TEX

Rangers' Justin Foscue: Rejoins big-league club

The Rangers recalled Foscue from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.

Foscue is returning to the big-league club after the All-Star break as Michael Helman was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Foscue was sent down to Triple-A just prior to the break July 5 after not logging much playing time with the Rangers. With Jake Burger on the injured list, the Rangers could platoon Rowdy Tellez and Foscue at first base.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | TEX

Rangers' Rowdy Tellez: Expected to be called up

The Rangers are expected to call up Tellez from Triple-A Round Rock, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

He would take the roster spot vacated by Jake Burger, who landed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left quad strain. Tellez inked a minor-league contract with the Rangers earlier this month after being released by the Mariners following a stint in Seattle that saw him slash .208/.249/.434 with 11 homers. While Burger and Joc Pederson (hand) are out, Tellez will likely see regular reps against right-handed pitching between first base and designated hitter.

  • Jake Burger 3B | TEX

Rangers' Jake Burger: Placed on injured list

The Rangers placed Burger on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left quadriceps strain, retroactive to July 13.

Burger suffered a quad injury Friday that prevented him from starting the Rangers' final two games before the All-Star break. He'll now officially remain on the sidelines to begin the second half and will be eligible to return beginning July 23.

  • Giants' Bryce Eldridge: Rehabbing in rookie ball

Eldridge (hamstring) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Monday and has gone 2-for-6 with a walk, an RBI and a run in his first two contests.

Eldridge started at first base in both contests and could be ready to return from Triple-A Sacramento's 7-day injured list when the affiliate opens up its post-All-Star-break schedule Friday. While the 20-year-old profiles as the Giants' first baseman of the future, he may not be in line for much more than a September call-up in 2025. Between stops at Double-A Richmond and at Sacramento prior to his rehab assignment, Eldridge slashed .263/.329/.484 with 10 home runs over 50 games.

  • Matt Mervis 1B | MIA

Marlins' Matt Mervis: Returns from MiLB IL

Mervis (oblique) was activated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Mervis missed just over three weeks while recovering from an oblique strain. He's been solid in five games since his return, going 5-for-16 with two home runs, three RBI, one stolen base and four runs scored.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Drives in three runs

Olson went 2-for-5 with three RBI in Sunday's loss to the Cardinals.

Olson knocked an RBI single in the third inning and drove in two more with another single in the fifth. He was stuck in a 3-for-25 (.120) slump with no RBI over his previous six games entering Sunday. Olson now has nine RBI over his last 17 games but all of those have come in three contests. He's slashing .262/.362/.468 with 61 RBI and 40 extra-base hits through 420 plate appearances this season.

  • Nick Kurtz 1B | ATH

Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Goes deep in win

Kurtz went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double and two runs scored in Sunday's win against Toronto.

Kurtz doubled and scored a run in the third inning before ripping a two-run shot in the fifth. After hitting one home run in his first 23 MLB contests, the rookie slugger has gone deep 16 times over his last 35 games. Kurtz hit five homers during the Athletics' nine-game homestand to close out the first half. He owns a .257/.333/.558 through 234 plate appearances.

  • Michael Busch 3B | CHC

Cubs' Michael Busch: Goes deep from leadoff spot

Busch went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Yankees.

Busch batted leadoff for the first time all season, and he made the decision look good right away by belting his 19th home run of the year to start off the game. Ian Happ has been Chicago's leadoff man for most of the season, but the team has experimented with both Nico Hoerner and now Busch the past few days. It will be interesting to see how Chicago structures its lineup coming out of the All-Star break. A move up to No. 1 for Busch on a more permanent basis could allow him to score more runs but would likely decrease his RBI output.
