  • Alex Kirilloff LF | MIN

Twins' Alex Kirilloff: Riding pine Wednesday

Kirilloff is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Reds.

The Twins have not faced a lefty starter in over a week, so this seems like a scheduled rest day for Kirilloff with another righty (Hunter Greene) on tap. Kirilloff has started in six of the last eight games against opposite-handed pitching. Donovan Solano is manning first base and hitting third.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Goes 3-for-4 in win

Diaz went 3-for-4 with a double and one run scored in Tuesday's 6-2 victory over the Angels.

The breakout 32-year-old led off Tuesday's contest with a laser line drive into the left-center gap for a double, attentively taking third on an error and scoring on Randy Arozarena's two-run homer. The three-hit performance raised Diaz's batting average to .323, good for second in the AL behind Corey Seager's .333 mark. In his seventh season, Diaz has notched 163 hits, 20 home runs, 73 RBI, 90 runs and a .909 OPS across 575 plate appearances -- all career-highs.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Blasts homer in loss

Torkelson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers.

Torkelson had gone 0-for-9 over his last two games before receiving rest for Monday's series opener. He homered in the first inning to snap the mini-slump, and he's now batting .277 (18-for-65) over 16 contests in September. While he still has a poor .233 batting average, he's posted a .763 OPS, 29 homers, 84 RBI, 83 runs scored and three stolen bases across 148 games this season.

  • Matt Beaty 1B | KC

Royals' Matt Beaty: DFA'd by Kansas City

Beaty was designated for assignment by the Royals on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Sept. 7 and has now lost his place on Kansas City's 40-man roster. Beaty played in 30 games between the Giants and Royals this season and has a .230/.347/.295 slash line.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Remains out Tuesday

Mountcastle (shoulder) isn't in the Orioles' lineup Tuesday against Houston, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Now sitting for the sixth time in as many games, Mountcastle remains day-to-day with a sore shoulder and should be able to avoid a stint on the 10-day injured list. Mountcastle's absence will allow Heston Kjerstad to serve as Baltimore's DH while batting sixth.

  • Cubs' Jeimer Candelario: Could return next week

Manager David Ross expressed optimism Tuesday that Candelario (back) could return next week, Mike McGraw of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.

Candelario has been sidelined for over a week now due to a lower-back strain, but it sounds like he is making some semblance of progress with his side work. The 29-year-old corner infielder had registered a .773 OPS with five homers and two steals through 36 games for Chicago prior to landing on the injured list.

  • Jared Young 1B | NYM

Cubs' Jared Young: Recalled from Iowa

Young was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Young will give the Cubs an extra option on the infield as Nick Madrigal heads to the 10-day injured list because of a right hamstring strain. Young, 28, has slashed just .171/.256/.371 across 39 major-league plate appearances this year.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

    Astros' Jose Abreu: Homers again

Abreu went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and a walk Monday against the Orioles.

Abreu delivered his 16th home run of the season and second in his last four games. He's performed very well overall since returning from a back injury Aug. 23, maintaining a .240 average with six home runs, 26 RBI and 13 runs scored across 75 at-bats. Abreu still owns a .subpar .235/.295/.371 line across 130 games, but he has managed to top his homer total from the 2022 season.

  • Ryan O'Hearn 1B | PIT

Orioles' Ryan O'Hearn: Five hits in win

O'Hearn went 5-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's victory over the Astros.

Since the start of September, O'Hearn is batting .373 (19-for-51) in 14 games with a pair of homers, 12 RBI and a .961 OPS. The 30-year-old first baseman has had one of the more surprising breakout campaigns this year, slashing .309/.338/.511 with 13 homers, 57 RBI and 45 runs scored through 326 plate appearances. Even when Ryan Mountcastle (shoulder) is able to return, O'Hearn should continue to see regular playing time in Baltimore's lineup.

  • Bobby Dalbec 1B | CHW

Red Sox's Bobby Dalbec: Makes second straight start

Dalbec started at first base and went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Monday's 4-2 win over Texas.

Dalbec made a second consecutive start at first base in place of the injured Triston Casas (shoulder), who is likely done for the season, per Alex Speier of the Boston Globe. Dalbec is 3-for-8 in two games since being called up following Casas' placement on the injured list.
