Sogard is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Athletics.

Sogard had started five of the last seven tilts, seeing action at both second base and right field. He'll take a seat Wednesday, as Romy Gonzalez will occupy the keystone and Rob Refsnyder will patrol right field.

Clemens is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

The Yankees are sending righty Luis Gil to the bump, marking the first time over the last six contests versus righties that Clemens has been out of the lineup. Edouard Julien will handle first base and bat eighth in the series finale.

Mountcastle is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Mountcastle is on the bench for the fourth time in five games and looks like he'll be limited to a part-time role down the stretch. Since returning from the injured list Aug. 8, Mountcastle has posted a .702 OPS, nearly 100 points above Coby Mayo's mark during that same stretch (.612 OPS). However, because Mayo is seen as a core building block for the Orioles, he'll continue to be prioritized as the team's everyday first baseman ahead of Mountcastle, who is entering his final year of arbitration in 2026 and could be a possible trade or non-tender candidate this offseason.

The Cardinals placed Contreras on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right shoulder strain.

The injury had previously been labeled as a biceps strain, but either way, it will end Contreras' season. He slashed .257/.344/.447 with 20 home runs and 80 RBI over 135 games in his first season as a full-time first baseman. Alec Burleson will take over at first base for the Cardinals down the stretch, which should lead to more playing time in the outfield for Jordan Walker.

Yorke will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Yorke will stick in the lineup for the fifth straight contest and for the seventh time in eight games. He's yet to take advantage of receiving ample playing time in September, as he's slashing just .167/.189/.222 with no home runs, one stolen base, five RBI and one run in 37 plate appearances since being recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis at the start of the month.

Horwitz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

The left-handed-hitting Horwitz will hit the bench for the series finale while the Cubs send southpaw Matthew Boyd to the bump. Rafael Flores will step in for Horwitz on Wednesday to make his first MLB start.

Steer (neck) will start at first base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game versus the Cardinals.

Steer had been scheduled to start Monday's game but was scratched due to neck spasms. However, he had a chiropractic adjustment Tuesday and is ready to play in Wednesday's series finale. Steer has been losing reps to Sal Stewart at first base, but Stewart will handle third base in Wednesday's contest.

The Cardinals will place Contreras (biceps) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right biceps strain, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

The strain is considered mild, but it is bad enough to end the first baseman's season with less than two weeks remaining. Busch went 3-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run, two doubles and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Pirates.

Busch took Pittsburgh ace Paul Skenes deep to lead off the game, and he added two doubles to round out an excellent fantasy performance. The Chicago first baseman has now homered in consecutive games and three times in his last four contests. He's up to 29 long balls for the season, which is a new career best and tied for the team lead with Pete Crow-Armstrong.

Olson went 3-for-10 with a double, a triple, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI in Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Nationals.

After launching a solo shot off Jake Irvin in the matinee, Olson played hero in the top of the 10th inning in the nightcap with a bases-loaded triple. The first baseman has been on an absolute tear of late, batting .478 (11-for-23) over his last five games with eight of those hits going for extra bases (three doubles, a triple and four homers). On the year, he's up to 27 homers and 91 RBI in 152 contests, giving him a shot at his fifth career 30-HR campaign and fourth career 100-RBI season.
