  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: Retreats to bench

Olson is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Mariners, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Olson will give way to Mark Canha at first base for Tuesday's contest with left-hander James Paxton starting for the opposition. The 24-year-old is hitting .243/.300/.405 with one homer through 10 games this month.

  • Ryan O'Hearn RF | PIT

Royals' Ryan O'Hearn: Retreats to bench after homer

O'Hearn is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

O'Hearn will retreat to the bench against left-hander Ryan Borucki after going 1-for-2 with a walk, a homer and all three RBI during Monday's 3-1 series-opening win. Rosell Herrera will start at DH and hit fifth in this one.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: Pair of hits, RBI in win

Olson went 2-for-5 with an RBI single, a double and a run in a win over the Angels on Sunday.

Olson generated his third multi-hit game of August in the one-run victory, a tally that included his fifth two-bagger over the last 11 games. The slugging infielder has only left the yard a modest four times since July 6, but his 22 home runs rank second only to Khris Davis (34) on the Athletics.

  • Luke Voit 1B | NYM

Yankees' Luke Voit: Optioned to Triple-A

Voit was sent down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday, Marc Carig of The Athletic reports.

Since being traded to New York from the Cardinals on July 28, Voit has gone just 3-for-16 with two RBI, one walk and five strikeouts in five games and failed to do anything to warrant additional playing time. In his place, Ronald Torreyes was recalled from Triple-A.

  • Ryan O'Hearn RF | PIT

Royals' Ryan O'Hearn: Sits out Sunday

O'Hearn is not in the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

O'Hearn seemed to be moving into a full-time role for Kansas City, but even after starting the past two days, he is just 3-for-23 since being promoted to the big leagues. He'll sit out Sunday, allowing Salvador Perez to have a DH day and Drew Butera to log a start behind the plate.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Rides pine Sunday

Gurriel is not in the lineup Sunday against the Mariners, Christian Boutwell of MLB.com reports.

The 34-year-old is hitting just .179 over the past 14 games, so he'll head to the bench for a day off. Tyler White will replace Gurriel at first base for the afternoon.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rays' C.J. Cron: Hits bench once again Sunday

Cron is not in the lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Manager Kevin Cash opted to trot out a lefty-heavy lineup against right-hander Marcus Stroman on Sunday, so Cron will retreat to the bench for a night off. Despite hitting 22 home runs thus far, the 28-year-old slugger is entrenched in a timeshare at designated hitter with Ji-Man Choi, and it doesn't seem like he'll gain any ground soon after Choi bashed two homers in the past three games.

  • Yandy Diaz DH | TB

Indians' Yandy Diaz: Rejoining big-league club

The Indians are calling up Diaz from Triple-A Columbus, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

The announcement came after the Tribe's Saturday contest as Diaz will fill the spot created by Edwin Encarnacion's (biceps) impending trip to the 10-day disabled list. The third baseman might serve as designated hitter on at least a part-time basis and deserves to be owned in most AL-only formats, with mixed-league intrigue dependent on the extent of his opportunity and stats posted in the near future.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Athletics' Matt Olson: Sits against southpaw

Olson is not starting Saturday against the Angels.

Olson will take a seat against left-hander Tyler Skaggs. Mark Canha will start at first base, with Ramon Laureano taking Canha's spot in center field.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Stays hot in win

Calhoun went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Friday's 4-3 win over the Athletics.

Calhoun -- who normally is moved down in the order against southpaws -- was allowed to lead off against left-handed starter Brett Anderson, and he rewarded manager Mike Scioscia's decision with his 16th home run of the season and second in as many games. Don't let the 30-year-old's mediocre season line fool you, as he has been one of the Angels' hottest bats since returning from the disabled list June 18, posting a .291/.358/.646 slash line with 15 long balls over that 44-game span.
