  • Manager Derek Shelton said Wednesday that Ryan is scheduled to undergo further evaluation for a lower-body injury, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Shelton said that Ryan's injury has left him physically unable to replicate his delivery, which helps to explain why the 30-year-old has given up 16 earned runs in just 15.1 innings since the All-Star break. It remains unclear what exactly he's dealing with, but his next start -- lined up for Sunday against the Brewers -- is in jeopardy as the team waits for a diagnosis.

  • Ryan (6-8) took the loss Tuesday against the Royals, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings. Kansas City wasted little time getting to Ryan, stringing together two singles and a double in the first inning to score twice. He settled in until the fifth, when Bobby Witt lined a two-run double and later scored to extend the Royals' lead. After posting an impressive 2.85 ERA with a 128:25 K:BB across 110.1 innings before the All-Star break, Ryan has unraveled in the second half, surrendering 17 runs (16 earned) while recording just 10 strikeouts over 15.1 innings in three starts. He now owns a 4.08 ERA and 1.15 WHIP across 125.2 innings this season and is tentatively scheduled to face the Brewers on Sunday.

  • Ryan (6-7) took the loss Wednesday against the Royals, allowing four runs on eight hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out four. Ryan, who was scratched from Sunday's start against the Athletics due to right arm fatigue, didn't quite qualify for a quality start Wednesday but did give the Twins some length. The All-Star right-hander has stumbled lately, coughing up 12 runs over his past two appearances and watching his season ERA jump from 2.85 following his July 11 start versus the Angels to 3.52 after Wednesday's outing. Ryan, who also sports a 1.11 WHIP and 135:25 K:BB across 120.1 innings, will be aiming to right the ship in a rematch with Kansas City next week if he stays put with the Twins past Monday's trade deadline.

  • Twins' Joe Ryan: Not starting Sunday
    By RotoWire

Ryan has been scratched from Sunday's start against the Athletics due to right arm fatigue, Audra Martin of FanDuel Sports Network North reports. Twins manager Derek Shelton relayed that the Twins expect Ryan to return at some point during the upcoming series against the Royals that begins Tuesday, but a date for the right-hander has not been confirmed. He's coming off a dreadful performance against the Guardians this past Monday, when he allowed eight runs on 10 hits (including a career-worst six home runs) while striking out three across four innings in a loss. A replacement for Ryan on Sunday has yet to be announced.

  • Ryan (6-6) took the loss against the Guardians on Monday, allowing eight runs on 10 hits while striking out three across four innings. He did not issue a walk. It wasn't the outing Ryan was hoping for coming out of the All-Star break. Six of the 10 hits he allowed went yard, setting both a career and franchise high, and he also set career highs in hits and runs allowed. Ryan's poor performance Monday rose his ERA from 2.85 to 3.38, and he'll look to bounce back this weekend at home against the Athletics.
