• Twins' Joe Ryan: Fans eight, earns win Friday

  Ryan (7-10) earned the win after allowing two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out eight over six innings in Friday's 10-2 victory over the Rangers. Ryan endured a difficult first inning, allowing an RBI single to Corey Seager and a run-scoring groundout to Wyatt Langford as Texas grabbed a 2-0 advantage. However, Minnesota responded with six runs in the second, and Ryan took control the rest of the way, holding the Rangers scoreless over his final five frames to end a streak of seven starts without a win between July 11 and Sept. 19. Ryan gave up two or fewer runs in three of his final four starts of the season, but he posted a ballooned 6.82 ERA since the All-Star break. In 27 starts this season, Ryan posted a 3.79 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP over 144.2 innings.

  Ryan allowed two runs on seven hits, a walk and two hit batsmen while striking out five over five innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Saturday. Ryan was able to stay out of the loss column, but he's now winless in seven straight outings. This was one of his better performances in that stretch, which was interrupted for a month by a glute strain. Ryan is now at a 3.83 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 151:30 K:BB across 138.2 innings over 26 starts this season. The right-hander is tentatively projected for one more start this year, which is set to come at home versus the Rangers.

  Ryan (6-10) took the loss Sunday against the Guardians, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk across four innings. He struck out one. It was a tough outing for Ryan, who's now dropped five straight starts (bisected by a month-long stint on the IL). Ryan threw 84 pitches Sunday, giving up a pair of solo homers to Steven Kwan and Jo Adell before the Guardians added two more runs in the fourth. Ryan's ERA now sits at 3.84 through 25 starts (133.2 innings) this season with a 1.16 WHIP and 146:29 K:BB. Ryan is tentatively in line to face the Angels at home his next time out.

  Ryan (6-9) took the loss against Detroit on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over four innings. It was an uneven outing for Ryan in his return from a stint on the injured list that lasted over a month. The Tigers scored four runs against the veteran righty over the first two innings, but he managed to rebound and retired the final eight batters he faced. Ryan also flashed good swing-and-miss stuff with 12 whiffs among 66 pitches and seven punchouts. His pitch count was logically limited following the lengthy absence, but that should push up over his remaining starts. Ryan is next lined up to take the mound at home versus Cleveland.

• Twins' Joe Ryan: Officially placed on 15-day IL

  The Twins placed Ryan on the 15-day injured list Friday with a left glute strain. Imaging revealed the injury Thursday, and it's unclear at this point if Ryan will need to miss more than the minimum 15 days. With Ryan off to the injured list, Zebby Matthews has been summoned back from Triple-A St. Paul and will start Friday's game against the Brewers. Ryan owns a 3.65 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 138:27 K:BB across 125.2 innings spanning 23 starts this season.
