  • Texans' Kayshon Boutte: Building rapport with Stroud

Boutte said Wednesday that he's been developing chemistry with QB C.J. Stroud since his trade from the Patriots to the Texans on Aug. 24, Cole Thompson of USA Today reports.

Boutte ended up being the odd man out last month in a New England receiving corps that added A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs in the offseason. Prior to their respective arrivals, Boutte was a regular in the Patriots' passing game the last two seasons, combining for a 76-1,140-9 line on 114 targets in 29 regular-season contests during that span. He joined Houston in the wake of Jayden Higgins' torn ACL, so Boutte will be in the mix for looks from Stroud behind Nico Collins and alongside Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel (hamstring) and Jared Wayne to begin the campaign.

  • Texans' Kayshon Boutte: Dealt to Texans

The Patriots traded Boutte to the Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick Monday, Tom Pelissero of Netflix reports.

With the additions of A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs to New England's receiving corps this offseason, a player like Boutte may have felt the roster crunch with cut-down day less than one week away. Now with Houston, Boutte joins a position group that has lost Jayden Higgins for the season due to a torn ACL and also includes the banged-up Jaylin Noel (hamstring) and Tank Dell (knee). As a result, Boutte has a chance to make an impact early on this season.

  • Patriots' Kayshon Boutte: Not targeted in preseason opener

Boutte logged 16 snaps in Thursday's preseason opener against the Colts.

Boutte wasn't targeted in the contest. However, what's more notable is that he suited up while A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs and slot man DeMario Douglas, who are listed as first-teamers on New England's unofficial depth chart, were held held out of the game along with a number of other skill players, while Boutte, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism all saw action in the contest. As long as Boutte -- who has been mentioned as a possible trade candidate -- stays with the Patriots, his path to targets looks murky, at least as long as Brown and Doubs are healthy.

  • Patriots' Kayshon Boutte: Hoping to remain with Patriots

Boutte is aware of the trade rumors surrounding him but hopes to remain with the Patriots, Zack Cox of the Boston Herald reports.

The Patriots signed Romeo Doubs and traded for A.J. Brown in the offseason, creating a logjam in a wide receiver room that also includes Boutte, Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism. Boutte is reportedly off to a strong start at training camp, so he hasn't allowed the trade rumors to affect his performance so far. The 2023 sixth-round pick is entering the final season of his rookie contract.

  • Patriots' Kayshon Boutte: Off to solid start

Boutte is off to a good start early on in training camp, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.

Per Callahan, Boutte, who sat out parts of OTAs but reported for the Patriots' mandatory minicamp last month, has made the two best catches of training camp thus far. Following the team's offseason additions of A.J. Brown in a trade and Romeo Doubs via free agency, there's been speculation that New England may look to deal Boutte, but he remains in the mix for now, and as long as that remains the case, he'll have an opportunity to secure the role as the team's No. 3 WR ahead of Week 1. Also vying for snaps at the position that don't go to Brown and Doubs are Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism.

  • Patriots' Kayshon Boutte: Practices fully Tuesday

As expected, Boutte participated in Tuesday's mandatory minicamp practice, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.

The 2023 sixth-rounder skipped the Patriots' voluntary OTAs and has been the subject of trade speculation in the wake of the team's additions of A.J. Brown in a trade and Romeo Doubs via free agency. However, Boutte participated fully in Tuesday's session and has indicated that he's amenable to sticking around with New England, "whether that's at X (receiver), Z (receiver), F (slot receiver)... whatever I got to do, that's best for me." With Brown and Doubs sitting firmly atop the WR depth chart, Boutte, Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas and Kyle Williams remain the primary candidates for snaps in three-receiver sets, per Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site.
